most covers are just that... they COVER the song no worrying about playing it correctly. Also as you said the drummer himself plays it more than one way.
Just started lessons a couple of months ago and I want to learn this song - but here's what's throwing me off in this video. My teacher said the main beat is basically Beat#5 from the list of main rock beats. A beat of course has 8 notes. But when I'm watching the description of the main beat, there are just 5 notes (Bass w/crash, Ride, Ride w/snare, Bass w/ride, Bass w/crash) that is then supposed to be repeated 3 times. But Beat #5 would then follow those five notes with a solo cymbal, a snare w/cymbal and end with a solo cymbal. What am I not understanding here?
First off, most sheet music has errors. Second, it's possible your teacher is showing you a watered down version of the song because you just started.
