Thank you for thoe honest and informative review as always! What I think would be a good idea - a comparison between the Edition XS / Ananda Nano / Meze 109 Pro / Arya organic from a technical pro/con standpoint + subjective sound differences.
I second that, comparison with Edition XS in particular, as it is even cheaper than the ananda and when I tried it I found it pretty agreeable tuning wise, close to what is my preference overall, the hifiman with the least amount of eq needed that I've tried so far, while I hear from left and right that the ananda family in general is just too lean and bright sounding, though I've never heard one. Meze 109 pro would be interesting too, with the ananda likely winning in resolution and imaging, and the 109 pro winning in dynamic and bass response.
The benefit of hifiman is how easy it is to EQ them. With such a good baseline and highly technicality of their headphone, you can easily make something like Edition XS sound as good as meze 109 pro. But EQ is hard I understand so if you have money get what you like.
@@ciw8688 they are very close in term of sound signature. The 109 pro has a bit more bass and a lower presence on the lower treble, this make it a bit relaxing to listen to. The Edition XS is a bit more clear sounding a but still give that punch in the sub bass which is great on a planar open back. The other thing to considered is comfort though, edition XS is horrible if you head is small the 109pro does a better job at comfort.
@@Sintrania at $500 or lower, is the edition xs the one to choose if iam looking for clear, crips sounding, wide soundstage and good seperation headphone?
@@ciw8688 i would go for Sundara if sub bass is not your concern, it offer wide soundstage and such amazing clarity of vocal and instrument. XS is better for the bass and sub bass but that would muddle some of the midrange as well, but it does offer a more well balanced sound for wide range of music such as EDM or pop. Honestly if you love vocal, instrumental, classical or any music with emphasis on the midrange the sundara is a must try.
@@bluex217 i like everything on my nano. similar music to what i like normally with my HD560s. i listen to everything , anything that sounds good. i like vocals too and nano has excellent midrange vs the XS.

Frequency Follower here! No way man, the Ananda Nano is much better than the Sundara. The Nano is a fantastic Mixing & Mastering Headphone! Had never heard of it before, I compared it to the Audaze LCD-X and MM-500, the Focal Clear MG, the Sundara, Stealth and some more. The Nano is displaying and revealing frequencies in the most accurate and clear way. EQing Nano's frequency response makes it fantastic. I was willing to spend nearly 2'000$ for the MM-500 - supposedly the GOAT of mixing headphones - which turned out to be horrible headphones to me. I do not understand how someone can mix on them. If you really want to enjoy music, the LCD-X is better. Huge soundstage, beautiful highs, fast and warm. The Nano has a bit smaller soundstage , but stunning clearness in the mids and highs. It also displays Dept more clearly, which let's you make mixing and editing descisions easy. Love it! Luckily my ears like a headphone that is not so expensive :)
I just need the detail man. I sold the OG Ananda's the quickest after purchase bc they just didn't resolve enough for the price, and I found that to be the case for the XS's and the Sundara's as well. Its due time we had a sub $1000 high resolving planar in my opinion.
Hifiman Arya, HE6SEv2 are well under 1k right now - that's what I would recommend. By the way, what headphones do you consider detailed that you tried so far? I find it interesting you didn't think those headphones were detailed enough, especially the Ananda for the price. Only headphone I can really think that is considerably better at detail for around that price range is HE6SEV2, used Focal Clear etc - stands up to pretty much anything else in the price range IMO
@@ChildrenOfDesire Yeah Arya's are great but when i was looking a year ago i couldn't find them under $1000. Had the HE6SEv2's, they were the second most disappointing, I might have had a dud pair - the detail was there but literally everything else was off. they just sounded super claustrophic, The Verum 1's were actually my fave Planar under $1000 by a large margin, actually - not sure if they're even available anymore. I have LCD 2's now, these or Clears if you can find them for $600-700 then definite cop imo
@@18andcloudy I think the HE6SEv2 can come across as claustrophobic because they are sort of an intense sounding pair of headphones, especially as you raise the volume I find my ears get overwhelmed fast and then I get that claustrophobic feeling. I'm not sure what it is, but it's the intimate soundstage, coupled with the dynamics. Honestly though I can't say I agree with everything else being off, it's technically very good at most things including imaging, bass extension etc. I do sort of have to listen quieter with my HE6SEv2 to not feel fatigued but I do like them - I think Crinacle made a similar note about them - they're just really highly strung but they are good if you want what they do - being an overall very good, fairly neutral headphone outside of not having a very wide/tall soundstage and being a bit intense. I have the LCD-2 but I don't think that it's particularly detailed, it's probably about the same level as the Ananda detail retrieval wise (maybe a bit better) but it does sound good, I think it sort of wins over the HiFiMan headphones in terms of timbre and warmth. The Ananda kind of sucks because it's thin sounding and tries to push detail it can't really resolve by being artificially bright (some people call it fake detail/macro-detail), while the LCD2 is the opposite - the detail is just naturally there and not trying to be pushed in your face. Focal Clear IMO, it's also very nice and I think this definitely wins in timbre, being able to resolve texture of instruments, microdynamics are better than any of the above planars for sure. It's amongst my favourite dynamic driver headphones, but it does have that very slight haze to everything which I haven't really found any DD to not have yet (when you listen to Stax you'll also realise that Planars actually also have a little bit of this too, in that speed + clarity department, which is why people get that 'uncanny valley' feeling when listening to Stax for the first time). I do feel like detail wise it's sort of right inbetween Ananda/LCD2 and HE6SEv2/Arya etc, probably closer to the latter.
Get yourself the Ananda Nano and a tube pre amp. Some tubey sound really makes the Nano sound amazing. Highly technical yet extremely fun and engaging. The tubes also will widen the soundstage, add depth and height will also giving oomph and texture to the lows. Truly endgame stuff. The LCD-X 2021 and Focal Clear OG/MG are pretty meh to me now. They sound boring and lifeless compared to the Nano. Just put it, you want resolution, detail and clarity that surpasses the HD800s? Ananda Nano. Soundstage isn't as wide but imaging and overall everything else is better on it
I doubt it does anything better than the XS, excepet adding the wide imaging the old Ananda had which I don't need at all so I am good. Looking forward the comparaisons though
He1000se is now my favorite hifiman from climbing up the ladder insanely clear, transparent, wide, and smooth, and there is extended treble, but its not sharp as the treble with he1000v2 or arya can get a little spiky or hot with sibilance here and there the se has this control and fluidity that I haven’t heard, in any other high end hifiman .. and it’s super easy to drive!! susvaras a little too crazy with the high-end gear you need lol

I also own an Ananda Nano and previously had a Meze 109 Pro. Compared to these, Meze 109 Pro seemed like sub-closed back HPs. I find the bass is pretty punchy on these, too. I'd prefer these over 109.
It all depend on what profile someone is after. I also have the nano and I was also puzzled as to why he thought those were bass shy as I just got my nano's back from Sonarwork and there's only a little bump of 3 db from 40hz to 20hz while the OG ananda have a 6db bump correction from 50 hz to 20 hz.
The Sundara was a great option at it's time when competing with things like the M1060's, but nowadays, with headphones like the HE400SE or the HD560S existing that are way cheaper and with headphones slightly above it's price point that are a giant leap from it, you cannot simply recommend it to everybody anymore. @@gmansmiley2984I actually find clarity better in the Ananda Nano. Yes staging and low end is a touch better on the Arya Organic. But defs not $700 better. No where near $700 better. With tubes, I personally prefer the Ananda Nano over the Arya Organic. Just shows how much price to performance the Ananda Nano gives. So compared to the XS. No competition. Ananda Nano all the way. The XS sounds muffled, congested in some tracks and lacks the soundstage and extremely precise imaging the Ananda Nano has
No comparison. The Meze 109 may be warmer and smoother. But the Ananda Nano is just insane with its clarity, slam, dynamic swing, raw detail, extremely precise imaging and wide soundstage. The Meze 109 sounds closed in comparison. Adding tubes to the Ananda Nano just makes them endgame potential. I haven't touched my Meze 109 pro, Focal Clear OG and LCD-X 2021 in a while. Only reason I could see someone getting themselves the Meze 109 is if they want something more laid back. But other than that, Ananda Nano all the way. Just be sure to have a good source. Synergy matters a lot with the Ananda Nano. I personally don't like it with solid state amps. Tubes or hybrid amps sound much better. Even a solid state with a tube pre amp works. But solid state alone, it just sounds very clinical unless the solid state amp is tilt to a slightly warmer tuning

@@Krishnakumar-wl7ih Yes. Now tuning you may like more than Sundara or you may prefer the Sundara over the Ananda Nano. But apart from that. Everything else is a huge upgrade. Sundara doesn't come close to technicalities of the Ananda Nano

I have tried both recently. The HE1000 V2 Stealth are more confortable and got more bass but they are surprisingly close in the technical performance. The comfort and build quality was bad on the earlier version also, but it is the best sounding Hifiman I've heard, but the best headphone under 1000$ are without a dubt Sennheiser HD-600
yes! 600 usd with sundara headband ! that if you wear it a dozen times the logo starts to fade !!!!!!! and I had to change the leather band after about two months because it tore!!!! nothing to complaint about the sound (sundara) very very happy.
I think bro needs to fix his ears... These headphones are phenomenal. I have tried most of the competitors in this price category, and none of them came close to these. Blud also disliked the Focal Bathys... need i say more?
It depends which type of profile you're after. If the Harman curve is your thing, then no, they are not. If the Sonarwork is your thing, then yes, by quite a bit. In other word, if your a Hi-fi enthusiast, you're good to go. If on the other hand you expect on using them for mixing and mastering, you will need a custom calibration for a correction software. once corrected, those are phenomenal. I have the Q701 and HD650 and wont be using themk anymore. The nano really blow them all out after correction.
@@4epa1012 better bass quality, better staging, more detail while being less fatiguing, easier to drive, personally find the headband comfort way better but ymmv
If build quality is crap it can never be one of the best headphones of all time. Sennheiser ftw. Always solid build, light construction, comfortable to wear and great sound... And rarely any manufacturing defects, usually last very long time. I would not bother with Hifiman crap.
Joshua there's many videos on TH-cam for best headphone under 150$ or 300$ and when I see your videos similar to them I am so confused that what's best pair, and that's why I am hesitating to buy one.A lot of us like me want you to make 2 videos for best pair of headphones under 150$ and 300$. Edit-Vote for the video.
Too difficult to give a blind recommendation and be sure you'll like it, you just have to listen to stuff and figure out what you like. With that being said, HE400SE, Sundara.
The comfort on these is horrible. Look how angled back the pads are. That combined with the clamp force combined with no swivel combined with the location and tightness of the pleather band made these incredibly uncomfortable for me no matter how much I tried to adjust them. They seem like they were designed to try and look sleek rather than for any sort of comfort. The tuning is good for music if the recordings aren't already high treble and the detail is great but for gaming and movies they pretty much suck because they have no dynamic or punch at lower volumes and at higher volumes, where you get a sense of dynamics, the treble is unbearable. To me the treble becomes unbearable at about 80 dba which is a little high but about what a "fun" listening volume would be.
Depends on your head shape. If you need swivel, no swivel is bad. For some reason my head doesn't require swivel. For clamp, the arms on the yokes can be bent out which makes the Nanos fall straighter. Takes comfort from 10m to 1.5 hours for me. Sennheiser HD 490 is way more comfortable and sits well, like the Nano the HD 490 doesn't require any EQ. Ananda Nanos still sound good powered by iPhone or iPad (much better off of good DAC of course), unlike the Edition XS which must be amped. Low clamp can be bad too: the Edition XS slip off my rather large head if I turn my head quickly. Always have to be conscious not to move too far or too suddenly, phones don't stay in ideal listening position and one has to fiddle with position every five minutes or so. Edition XS requires EQ to sound good. Most bang for the buck ever, approaching $200 these days. For now, the Nanos are my favourite headphones (Edition XS went back for comfort reasons).
@@alexp2082 The HD490. The Nanos sweeten the sound on some tracks quite a bit (i.e. euphonic). The HD490 are musical but give you the music straight up. The HD490 are also more durable, can be taken quickly on and off, just dumped on a desk, the Nanos must be handled with care or will break, will scratch your desk badly with sharp lugs. It's easier to use the HD490 with a single pad, as the ear pads swivel (90 degrees, not 180). The Nanos have no swivel (which is fine when they stay on your head all the time for listening at home, but a nuisance for production).

I agree, at these price ranges... these are only toys at this price point.. I know we cannot expect much more.. so I do understand that aspect... But those Organics are simply beautiful looking and I will own them in a few months. But for now I am loving these XS right now. SO.. I am also using Tidal right now on the 20 euro plan and banging the tunes and it sounds stunning.. especially when setting it to Exclusive mode.. yikes.. woah... I am using Balanced cables to my IFI Zen Can V2.. outstanding.... can it get better???? Right now I really don't see how sound can get much better...
@@gmansmiley2984
@@gmansmiley2984I actually find clarity better in the Ananda Nano. Yes staging and low end is a touch better on the Arya Organic. But defs not $700 better. No where near $700 better. With tubes, I personally prefer the Ananda Nano over the Arya Organic. Just shows how much price to performance the Ananda Nano gives. So compared to the XS. No competition. Ananda Nano all the way. The XS sounds muffled, congested in some tracks and lacks the soundstage and extremely precise imaging the Ananda Nano has
Man still no review on the HE 1000 stealth! My opinion the best hifiman headphone besides the Susvara
Review on the Xduoo-XD05 Pro soon?
Ananda Nano VS Meze 109 Pro ??
I own both. Meze 109 Pro has been decoration for my wall, while Ananda Nano is constantly used
No comparison.
Thanks a lot... I really like hyper detailing in my headphone. Guess 109 Pro is not for me even though it has such rave reviews. I already own Sundara. Do you think Ananda has enough advantages to upgrade?
@@Krishnakumar-wl7ih Yes. Now tuning you may like more than Sundara or you may prefer the Sundara over the Ananda Nano. But apart from that. Everything else is a huge upgrade. Sundara doesn't come close to technicalities of the Ananda Nano
i had to return both the sundara and ananda i tried because of lack of swivel making clamp feel more than it was. also, the ananda headband was so bad. the locking mechanism for one ear broke. seeing that this is the same band, its a hard pass for me
Which headphones would you suggest for a mobile production studio (from composition to pre master) AUDEZE LCD-X or Higiman Nano? Unless there is a third one that I missed in the same price range.
I can get the LCDX at $700 just for info
Thank you Joshua
what about gaming ? ist good ?
Ananda's are on sale for $400 now.
How are they compared to he1000v2 stealth ??
I have tried both recently. The HE1000 V2 Stealth are more confortable and got more bass but they are surprisingly close in the technical performance. In my opinion, both need some EQ, specially in the highs because both can sound a bit over the top and metallic sometimes.
If you are fine with the Ananda fit, I would recommend you to save your money, buy an Ananda nano and get another headphones with the leftover money.
@@TCFlam
Thanks man , have you tried also the he1000se?
@@TheSaassaf no, the Stealth is the only one that I've tried from the HE1000 series.
@@TCFlamI'd get the Ananda Nano and a tube or tube hybrid amp. Tubes make a world of difference with the Ananda Nano. The price to performance of the Ananda Nano is crazyyyyy!!!!! And I hate not many reviewers say that. I to would take it over the He1000 stealth. It's that good. With some easy eq. Potential endgame people!!!!!!!!
What’s the best headphone that you listened to?!
these or the Heddphone V2?
Isn't headphone v2 cost like 1900bucks?
These.
The ending got me tripping. Dude thats my name what the hell!
Im still waiting for yours video and option on Modhouse Tungsten
I saw your review of the Wood Audio Wa7. How would that headphone amp match with the Nanos? Thank you and keep it up!
9:50 my name is Tony but I've already been subscribed to your channel basically since it started 😅
Interesting review. Love the title. It's very.
I like to try the Nano. @Josh, are you going to CJ SoCal?
Can I plug this headphones directly to my turntable? Thanks!!!!
There can only be one…..of the headphones….😬
Do you think tubes would help with its issues?
I own these, love them, great sound, they destroy HD 600 and HD 660 S. also comfortable. maybe it your head. and how is it bright? legit sounds great with a good amp/dac
Ananda Nano or Audeze MM-100?
Very WEIRD review! I bought these and they are fantastic. Way better than the XS and 109 Pro! Dont know why you dont like them?
Honestly I don´t think he should be a hifi-reviewer... He has too many bad takes to be taken seriously. These headphones are fantastic, and are probably the best you can do under 800$.
For me, the eq'ing of your voice makes it kinda hard to hear what you are saying. With your deep voice and attenuated highs it becomes hard for me. Listening on Sony wh-1000x m3
Liked the video. Can I request the Audeze MM 100 get included in the next "Against" video - Thanks
There shouldn’t be any more than like legendary 3 headphones, in human history, imo 🤔
The price of the Nano just dropped to $419. Pretty good.
as a Tony i Will subscribe inmediately
What’s with the microphones in the shot?
No. Whats on first base.
You're welcome Josh. And for calling me out by name, I will subscribe.
The comfort and build quality was bad on the earlier version also, but it is the best sounding Hifiman I've heard, but the best headphone under 1000$ are without a dubt Sennheiser HD-600
If I own and enjoy an HE1000 v2 non-stealth, should I buy an Ananda Nano?
No just get the he 1000 stealth
it is an headphone
The David S Pumpkins of headphones. Is that whole SNL skit a metaphor for the headphones industry?
I'd love an egg shaped Hifiman with a Sundara tuning. Best of both worlds.
yes! 600 usd with sundara headband ! that if you wear it a dozen times the logo starts to fade !!!!!!! and I had to change the leather band after about two months because it tore!!!! nothing to complaint about the sound (sundara) very very happy.
oh, i thought it was a typo lol
Title is incomplete, mate
I think bro needs to fix his ears... These headphones are phenomenal. I have tried most of the competitors in this price category, and none of them came close to these. Blud also disliked the Focal Bathys... need i say more?
Are these kinda sibilant headphones?
It depends which type of profile you're after. If the Harman curve is your thing, then no, they are not. If the Sonarwork is your thing, then yes, by quite a bit. In other word, if your a Hi-fi enthusiast, you're good to go. If on the other hand you expect on using them for mixing and mastering, you will need a custom calibration for a correction software. once corrected, those are phenomenal. I have the Q701 and HD650 and wont be using themk anymore. The nano really blow them all out after correction.
They're not
Nano>XS
How? Can you give a bit more details?
@@4epa1012 better bass quality, better staging, more detail while being less fatiguing, easier to drive, personally find the headband comfort way better but ymmv
@@chrisk31271000000000% agree
If build quality is crap it can never be one of the best headphones of all time. Sennheiser ftw. Always solid build, light construction, comfortable to wear and great sound... And rarely any manufacturing defects, usually last very long time. I would not bother with Hifiman crap.
one of all of titles of youtube of internet of all of the us of canada and mexico............................................
I'm not gonna lie, the start looks like the start of a beatbox music video
This one is more vshaped than the v2 ananda stealth
Nice one man. Also, totally off-topic, but: will you consider reviewing the Topping A70/D70 Pro?
i died at the nano joke.
Everything is the best pair of headphones.
Too difficult to give a blind recommendation and be sure you'll like it, you just have to listen to stuff and figure out what you like. With that being said, HE400SE, Sundara.
It’s all Bullsh, remember these reviewers job is to make money off of influencing you to keep buying headphones.
Mork and Mindy show- Mork - I want a Nano Nano Headphone.. Ok that joke sucked too. I'll just see myself out
he560 are way too tight (too)
Used (like new) 350€ try to get a better one for that amount ;)
from this I dont know nothing much part of that it is bright and not rly worth a try
Top lad
You just freaked out my son Tony.
@@AlecKinnear Could you advise on what would be better for music production - hd 490 or Nano? Ty
Why does HIfiman have all these Sanskrit names?
