  • In this video, I show you how to disassemble and replace the battery in a Dell Inspiron 5579, 2-in-1 laptop. The laptop came to me with a faulty battery, which had unreliable performance.

Simple and pretty clear! The 2 screws missing from the battery are not missing, they are the ones from the base cover.

Good spot! Thanks for pointing that out - not sure why that didn't click before.

Brilliant thank you! I am an old lady and managed to do this with your help. As others have said, the two apparently missing screws were 'missing' from mine also.

Thanks for the great demo! On a note, my battery only had 2 screws holding it in also. It must be manufactured that way because I know no one has ever opened it since I ordered it new from Dell.

Sure, those two seemingly missing screws holes are for the case cover. So they are not missing but to be done from outside when fixing the cover.

Thank you. This tutorial was very clear and easy to follow. Is there any special procedure required when booting up the replacement battery for the 1st time? Like does it need to be fully charged before using? And does it shorten the life of the battery to have it plugged in beyond the time it takes for the full charge?

Ideally you'll perform a battery synchronisation after replacing. This involves draining the battery completely, and beyond the automatic shut down that Windows uses, and then recharging from 0-100% uninterrupted. The charger automatically reduces current when it detects a fully charged battery, so the current flow is minimal, reducing the risk of battery damage.

@@TheTechGeek4Life Thank you. I know the replacement battery comes partially charged. So after install, should I drain it completely from the get go or charge it fully then drain to 0 and recharge to 100%?

Hey did you buy your battery off the offical dell website or 3rd party? Because if 3rd party would you be able to link the website you got it because I’ve seen some but the reviews all say they had poor performance.

Mine was second hand, genuine Dell. I would avoid 3rd party at all costs - having experienced them in both laptops and phones, I can say they are a monumental waste of time! Hope this helps.
