If you are still reading comments on this video. I would just like to ask you a question. I'm no blacksmith nor an iron worker or fabricator. I noticed that when you made the stainless billet from nail clippers, you wore a respirator while heating and beating it, but not while you were cutting, sanding, and grinding it. So my question is this: Are those activities not hazardous to your lungs as well?

James your right the heating and beating the red hot Damascus should be mask on as well as sanding cause overtime iron oxide powder from grinding will fuck up the lungs and cause cancer but I only know science compounds soo take with grain of salt

Чел красавчик , базару 0 . но , слишком не экономно использует сталь эту "бамасскую" клинки такой толщины что можно 2-3 сделать из одного полотна . ну и к качеству рукоятей есть вопросики 😂 дефекты хоть и мелкие но в глаза бросаются. Как и эпоксидка выступающая в районе гарды ) ну и финалоча это конечно отсутствие точильного камня ) поэтому лезвие не режет а рвет 😂 извините если жёстко 😅😅 зато честно

It's borax aka flux, it basically makes a temporary glassy seal to help the welds hold/fuse and prevent the layers from coming apart in the heat and powerhammers if I'm not mistaken

It's really very difficult to forge something like nail clippers into a solid piece of steel without getting slag inclusions. This blacksmith tried his hardest to prevent this, excellent craftsmanship!

Beautiful work! I know very little about knives, but I know what I like. What does a knife like You finished at 36:00 mark cost? Is just what I like to see,.. mild but not so fancy you're afraid you'll scratch it Damascus, and Great Grip!... solid, very nicely pinned and flanked scales with a visible tang throughout... something that I'm sure feels fantastic to hold.
Un bon couteau damas pleine soie coûte environ 150€. Il y en a moins cher qui sont fabriqués au Pakistan par exemple.

Nhưng rất tiếc anh ta lại để lại lưỡi dao hơi ngắn và đoạn thép làm tay cầm thì anh ta lại để nó quá dài, làm phí mất một đoạn lưỡi dao tạo thành chiếc dao không được cân đối về bố cục lắm. Tôi thấy tiếc cho thành quả của anh ta quá, giá như anh ta để lưỡi dao dài thêm ra 7cm và mặt dao được anh ta nung đỏ rồi dùng búa tán mặt dao rộng ra thêm một chút nữa thì con dao sẽ được cân đối hài hòa hơn. Còn chất lượng sắt thép của con dao thì lại miễn chê rồi vì sắt + thép được tôi luyện rất bài bản, rất suất sắc, rất tỉ mỉ đến từng chi tiết nhỏ. Tôi chỉ tiếc bố cục của con dao ấy chưa được cân đối thôi vì phần muốn cần thêm thì anh ta lại cắt bỏ đi mất còn phần không cần thiết lắm thì anh ta lại để quá dài làm cho lãng phí một chút khối sắt + thép mà anh ta đã phải bỏ công sức ra rất nhiều để tôi luyện mới đạt đến chất lượng trình độ cao của sản phẩm! Mong anh lần sau ra được sản phẩm khác thì đừng có lặp lại kỹ thuật như lúc ban đầu nữa vì tôi thấy tiếc cho công sức anh bỏ ra mà không thu lại được phần sản phẩm mà mình ưng ý 👍😊

ну во первых тут показано что можно сделать даже с лезвиями это как эксперимент ну а во вторых имеет значение соотношение углерода . поэтому делается ассорти. из швейных иголок тоже создают дамаск

It's called Borax, they use it as a flux.
That's borax. Used for welding metal together while forging.
