- Joe Brook's film ‘SKATEBOARDING IS OUR RELIGION’ is a pilgrimage to the epicentre of skateboarding, San Francisco, in Joe's iconic van ‘Big Blue’. In this rare look behind the scenes we watch Joe capture skateboarders using various photographic techniques for his work at Thrasher Magazine.
WARNING: The following film features skateboarding tricks performed by professionals. HARMAN technology and the producers insist that no one attempt to recreate or re-enact any of the activity in this film.

This is probably the 10th time I watch this short movie and I am amazed by what they do and how they merged together such a beautiful story. Great to see how the characters live their dream and I'd love to be on the road with Joe Brook for one day. Such an inspirational content going on here!!

That 4x5 picture of his van in front of the American flag mural is absolutely incredible. Makes me want to learn large format.
Joe has a fantastic eye for these compositions! Right before that shot was taken we actually had to go and tap on a lady's window that was sitting in her car clipping coupons and blocking the left side of the mural. Had to get that perfect shot.
These pictures go way beyond the usual skate pics. I love this stuff. Incredible work. Long live film.

Fantastic film to introduce us to Joe Brooks, well to me, as a non skateboarder, and his raisin d’état. Love to see him shooting both medium format and 35mm film while doing his thing.
Really glad you enjoyed it. It was important for us that the films connected to everybody not just skateboarders and I think we were really lucky to work with Exploredinary, Ray Joe and Jason on these.

TheChuckism1 thank you for watching the series! We used mostly Texas artists that we knew, except for Jason’s film which has skater Raymond Molinar from LA playing the score, and the ending track is played by Jason himself along with Texas artist Eric Pulido from Midlake.

im new to shooting video/film and photos. after watching tons of videos to gain knowledge i learned that my style is CANDID. i love capturing Life how it is. i dont care to pose anyone, i just want to shoot how it is. this was raw and enjoyable to watch! i love documentary films.

Amazing video! I´m not a skater but I always love seeing good skateboard photography, really inspiring! Does he have a book or anything where one can see more of his work? His website unfortunately does not have a lot of pictures....

@@Ilfordphoto I do and I really enjoy it. It force you to use different approach than when shooting digital, what I really like, and I want also to use it more when shooting digital. Everything slows, you think about every shot, as every shot cost you money and film, so you want to get the best from it, what you can. You think more about the shot itself, than about your camera, as you don't have much settings to change and only few frames, so you shouldn't shoot the same image 10 times and hope that one of them would be okay, but you have to really think about it. And, of course, there is something about old cameras with only few settings, all metal mechanical buttons and no (or minimal) electronics, and about the look of image, which can look like it was taken 40,or possibly also 80 years ago.

another mind blowing video of ilford, great editing, such amazing vibe and flow love it! and the van, camera, photographs, all of it is a huge source inspiration, can't wait to pick up my camera (Praktica, ain't got the bucks for better) again!
Nothing wrong with a Practika, I'm sure most of us have film camera wish lists but in reality we would with what we have. Do you have a favourite ILFORD film?
@@IlfordphotoMostly I used HP5 plus but my favorite is the Delta 3200. Do enjoy to shoot on dark cloudy days, or at night, in low light situations and the grain is not too bad yet existing in way that it rather adds a nice touch to the final image. Love it!
