The authenticity, pride, quiet integrity, and love for the cowboy way of life is what shines through here. The combination of Kent's storytelling, Shannon's perspective as the one capturing these lovely moments to an image, and the music so expertly mixed in the background puts us into the experience to enjoy. Love this. I swear I can smell the wood smoke and hear the wind blowing through camp.

❤ The beauty in the surroundings and Shannon's work here is indescribable. Always love Shannon's work, but it really shines here. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Kent, I'm learning so much from you about outdoor cooking. I've been an outdoor castiron girl all my 69 years; but there is always something to learn. Nothing beats the taste that a wood fire adds to food.

Kent please keep telling these stories! Your story telling is one of the greatest things that endeared me to this channel. Shannon, don't sell yourself short! The pictures in your and Kent's cookbooks are beautifully composed, and show the world that you are the consummate professional.

My 95 year old mom (who was married to a real old timer cowboy, named George) watched your show with me. George moved from Colorado by a horse drawn wagon as a kid. Mom has passed now, but every time I see you on I remember how she loved watching your show. This episode is dear to my heart, reminding me of that woman I loved SO much and that cowboy that took her heart from hello. Thanks SO much for doing what you do. Loved this episode!

As I said from the first video of yours I saw, you open a portal to our history no one else does. The true life of a cowboy, the hard work of working herds to feed the people they will never meet but know it has to be. Yes, please, keep this heritage and tradition alive in all ways. Shannon captures moments in time of both today and long ago, not pictures, the essence of life of a cowboy and the chuck wagon cook that tends to their lives.

Well, Shannon, I am a professional photographer and will say you absolutely nailed it. Photography at it's core isn't about settings, or technique, or the latest and greatest gear ... it's about communication and telling a story. In that regard, I could not have done better! Fantastic shots! On an unrelated note ... are you guys familiar with Harold Holden (cowboy/western artist from Enid)? I've photographed him a few times ... I mention it because Kent reminds me of him with the same gentle and wholesome manner. Loved this video .... more please.

It brings out the beauty of the picture and provokes the thoughts of what others see too. You did well and we are blessed to be able to see the beauty of the REAL COWBOY LIFE and the Joy and agony of the COWBOY CAMP COOK'S side of the story too. One of the best videos Shannon and Kent. Touched my heart and soul, it did. Words fail me to express how beautiful it was so I will not try. I can only say thank you, take care and God bless.

Brings back so many memories from my early childhood. Great grandma had the coffee brewin and bacon and eggs a coookin. Great grandpa would load us up in the hay wagon and set out to round up the cows. The sites, the sounds, the smells of that old ranch are with me forever. Kent and Shannon, thank you for what you do. You remind me that there is still good is this world.

i love these type of videos. my dad was a cowboy, i was raised on a farm, i miss the old days. I think people just aren’t the same anymore, and maybe these videos will speak to hearts and show everyone what is most important and what we need to go back to. God bless you all.

Kent and Shannon, I have all three of your cook books. What I appreciate the most about your cook books are the recipes that have stories and pictures associated with where they came from or how you have cooked those dishes on the trail. Shannon, I think what really makes a good photographer is knowing when to pick up the camera and capture a moment. Finding the spirit of the moment is much more important than knowing all the camera settings. Shannon, your pictures are amazing and I thank you for capturing those moments and sharing them with all of us. This video was excellent and I hope you do make it a series.

    This is what it's about!
You have brought it out with this video.
Not that you haven't hit the ball out of the park on all the others, but you have put a face on real working people with this video. Thank you for the recognition.

I love all your videos. This is a great series to add to the channel. To hear your stories to the pictures and just live on the trail, is fascinating to me. Thank you for all you do. Shannon, you are a great photographer. Seeing your photos today and hearing the stories makes me want to get back into photography. I did it as a college student and still love to take pictures. Now my pictures are of nature, kids and families. Keep the fun coming!

This was a refreshing and much enjoyed change of pace. I would love to see more of this video journal type of content. Kent, you have got to have enough pictures and stories from decades of cowboy life to keep us all entertained for many years to come, and I am eagerly waiting and hoping you will bless us with your tales of those experiences. Thanks again for being such an absolute BOSS ! ! !

I really enjoyed your “Tales from the Trails”. I’m no cowboy, although I have raised a few cows. The stories take me back to a time when I was young…mom, dad, granddad and myself each had horses that we road on the weekends and occasionally on a “trail ride”. These rides were typically 25 miles or less but included camping overnight, community meals, campfires and singing. Granddad, or “Pa” ran a service station that sold saddles and tack. He was sort of the local horse whisperer and was always eager to put King through his tricks. Your videos put in mind of those simpler times in the 60’s. I’m now 70 and these horse riding folks have all passed. Thanks for rekindling my memories. I believe you need to remember your past to truly know where you’re headed. Ride on my friend.

I loved this. I miss living on the ranch and it reminded me of the many rodeo cowboys I've met that would come to our practice events and bulldogging school.
There's also a book written about my mom's side with a story about when the wife of a cousin (my great gpa and 4 brothers had ranches near each other) was miles away in the Idaho mountains with the horses when her husband had gone back to the homestead and got delayed because of an illness associated with his diabetes and she realized after him not returning that she'd have to move all those horses back on her own. No problem for the tough people back then. That little gal just got up onto that lead mare and brought them home on her own.

So far this has been my favorite of all your videos. I once had a dream to be a cowboy. Along came Garth Brooks and assured me that it "weren't easy like the movies said it was". At 60 years old now I can't even imagine sleeping on the ground, let alone settin' in a saddle from dawn to dusk. But I do enjoy the outdoors and a good cup of coffee on a cool morning.
Yes, please continue with more videos like this, as well as your other ones.
