Another tip - if all your footage is shot on the iPhone and you want to apply this setting to the entire timeline rather than to individual clips one at a time, change the setting in the upper right from "Clip" to "Timeline" and you can create one node that will affect the entire timeline.
Great tip! 👍
@@JasonYadlovski Happy to see you're still active and creating DaVinci Resolve videos. I went astray about a year ago and switched a different editor, but I'm back with Resolve now and learn so much from your videos!
Excatly what i was looking for, thanks!
This is very helpful! Are there specific render settings in Deliver page?
You sir put countless youtube videos in one sentence! IDK how I could ignore this button for such a long time but wow! A HUGE Thank you man! :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I’ve been trying to find a way to get that iPhone quality back instead of the depressing DaVinci default and no one answered my question except you. You are truly a lifesaver and I am eternally grateful. Thank you.

On a Mac You can also right click > encode selected video file > H.264 (any of them) and that will fix the iphone color issue. takes 2 seconds.
Nice! 😜👍 thanks for sharing that!
Can't find encode selected video file in Davinci Resolve. Is it somewhere else?
Right click in finder, over the video. You get there the encode option.
Hello there, may I know is it possible do with multiple clips at once. I am facing the same issue, the iPhone 14 clips from a friend are getting desaturated and blown when I import them into Davinci resolve.
finally works! Thank you!

What a great space you've here buddy. All I did was follow you since I started my channel back in 2020 and my edits have been so much better and I learnt Da vinci resolve right away, not to mention so many other video editors steer away from this due to its complexity but I find it just alright, for 0 bucks its perfect actually. Thanks again for educating us all and keeping it short and simple.
You're welcome man! Glad my vids have been helpful for you! I appreciate you being part of the community!
i used i movie as it was free on my old 2011 mac, only did basic cutting for walking videos. then i get a better laptop and tried davinci, after a few minutes i turned it off, all to complicated, few mins later thought i would give it another ago and have to say it looks hard at first but in fact is quite easy and so many vids to watch
I just watched your video again and this time the footage looks good. Thanks for the tutorial. BTW thumbs up to you.

Jason, I really appreciate this video about color space transform. What other project settings should I be using to get correct color and rendering? My output is noticeably different from davinci’s look.
You are amazing. Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the clarity Jason. It certainly makes my life easier. Also, thanks @MarkDHall for the timeline tip, saves some time to be able to do everything at once. For some reason exporting as H264 I got jiggly looking footage, but as H265 it's phenomenal.

Thank you 🙏 Color coding is less of a rocket science because of you!
Happy to help!
Thanks so much for the awesome video, It’s really helpful! I’m just wondering if I were to use a camera, will the footage still looks different in resolve?
You're welcome! Depends on the camera you use and the profile you use. Most cameras will appear ok, unless you are filming in a LOG format.
Thanks for the great video!
Another tip - if you increase the adaptation slider in tone mapping, you won't need to manually adjust brightness and it will look like your phone footage
Great tip!
Tks!!!!

Would your recommend turning off HDR mode on the iPhone? Does that eliminate the need for this process? Thanks so much. I'm learning a lot from your videos.
Not sure, I'd have to mess around with it a bit. I don't think it will eliminate the need to do a little processing.
Hello, great video! Is there a way to automate this process or do I have to do this for every clip every time?
Thanks! You can save your grade as a power grade. Then just drag and drop the power grade over onto your clip. Done!

Hey man! Awesome tutorial.
How did you know to use REC. 2020 for BT2020? I don't really understand how to know which setting to use for different cameras.
I just did a little research on it to figure it out and solve my problem. Pretty much anything you want to know is already out there, you just gotta know how to search for it and find what you need. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski okay cool. I wasn’t sure if there was something I was missing in the program or if I just had to dig deeper. Thank you!
Thanks. I can now sleep. I have now subscribed. Good luck to you.
Thanks for the sub! Welcome to the community!
Fantastic tutorial Jason, thank you! One question: I have a one minute video that I tested using your method. The version without the color grading corrections renders, exports and plays back just fine. However, the version with the effects applied stops and stutters upon playback. Are there adjustments needed for output as well as input in order to ensure smooth playback?
Using an Acer PC. Thanks~
Thanks! Was the playback choppy only in resolve or was the exported file choppy? If it’s in resolve, that makes sense because with the effects applied it taxing the machine more. Are you in the free version or studio?
I know this is old now but for anyone ele reading this Jason has a video that helps speed up the play back, great tips makes a big difference
Thank you! I was worried that my second video shoot session got also messed up.
You're welcome!
The best
Thanks!
Thanks for this. It saved the bacon on a project!
You're welcome!
I wish I could like this more than once! Thank you so much. Thought I just couldn't use iPhone footage.
You're welcome!
This is brilliant. Just wondering if it's possible to make a preset for it. I have a lot of mixed media.
Sure, you could just grab a still and put it in the stills gallery on the color page(right click on the image in the color page and choose grab still), and you can even throw it in the power grade so that way you can access it in every project
I watched your Power Grade tutorial and got it to the point where it's saved as a Power Grade but when I drop it on another clip it doesn't show all the nodes, just one node flashes for a second. How can I tell if it's been applied? And, can you apply it to a row of clips in the Gallery all at once?
Exactly what I needed. Just filmed my first few shots and was totally disheartened by how the colors came out. This looks so much better. Thank you for putting this together!
You’re welcome!
with you there! My film looked beautiful, cinematic quality and went into DVR18 and result was a horror show! The iphone caught exactly the look I was after. I'm glad it fixed it for you. If you've learnt anything since, I'm all ears!
Great "Quick-Tip-Tuesday" Jason 🤟.
Maybe, as an idea for a future video (and please forgive me if you already have one 🤦🏻♂️) a deeper-dive into the "Colour Space Transform" node would be cool.
Things like what to do if you can't find your camera's colour profile, or how to get the most out of the colour space transform node etc.
Just an idea to throw into your idea's hat 😁.
Cheers as always man 👊✌️
Thanks! Great ideas. I’ll add it to my list of vids. 😁👍😜
@@JasonYadlovski #iamhonoured 😁
Hey man thank for this! This is really useful, but I’m having a hard time trying to navigate everything on Davini Resolve.
Everything is so small. Is there a way to have the Davini layout bigger? So I can see all options bigger and more clear
I use my laptop
Thanks! Unfortunately, You can't change the size of Resolve unless you change the screen resolution. Kind of a pain, they should make the interface more customizable.
Thank$
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much for this, it’s brilliant!!!! Totally saved my project. I have no idea what I’m doing 😂 just trying to ‘make my own stuff’ as an actor/writer. Is there a similar video for sorting the sound? It’s sounds fine when I play back on my iPhone but bloody awful through Resolve! Thanks again. Working my way through the videos. Will one day be semi ok at this. Maybe. 😂❤❤
You're welcome! Sounds like maybe the timeline frame rate doesn't match the clip frame rate and is making it sound off? Or it could just be a playback issue......
@@JasonYadlovski I watched another one of your excellent videos and clicked the mono thingy on the audio whatsit and that was SOOOO much better!!! My lapel mics weren’t expensive. Think there’s only so much I can do with it. It’s a learning curve!!! Thank you for your help! Xx
Nice! Try using some EQ on your lav mic audio. Lav's are notorious for needed some EQ to make them sound better in my opinion. Here's a video about EQ: th-cam.com/video/5Rs1XRQSlAM/w-d-xo.html
Thanks mate! Had been quite frustrated when working on my videos for the channel and everything looked like sh*t from the iphone, so, thanks!
You're welcome! 😁
@@JasonYadlovski Okey... Next problem... I just realized that all my videos get rly washed out after I export them from Davinci, and the reason for that is cause I am on a mac. So, I had to change my General preferences to "Use Mac Display color profiles for viewers", that way I get the same look when I export my videos. BUT Now the videos looks super wached out again, even after following ur tips. You got any solution to this? Thanks a lot!
Yet another GREAT tut!! Your one of the best dude! Have been searching for a color space for a Samsung Galaxy S9+ profile, but have not been able to find any info about it. If you don't know the profile, is there a way to find it in Windows 11 Pro? I checked the details tab in the Properties window for several of my clips, (like you did on your Mac OS at 37 seconds of this vid) but have yet to reveal the info I want with any certainty - Any tips on how I could find out for sure?
HI! I tried looking for the color profile of the S9, but didn't have any luck on my google search. Is it Rec. 709 maybe? I'd just try a few and see if any of them make a difference.
@@JasonYadlovski Yeah - That's what I'm using - When in doubt, Rec 709 or Rec 2020 are my defaults - Tnx for all the work you do to keep us all in the game :)
what's the color profile for iphone 14 pro videos? i can't find it in the video's properties
Hi Jason, cool vis as normal, is there a way to save the selected colour space as like a defaul, i tried to save it as a template but realised you have to have a clip selected, which of course wont have any on a new project
thanks
Sure, you can set up the color space settings for the project in Project settings along w/ the frame rate and resolution you'd like to use, then just save it as a project preset. To see how to do that, check out this video, about 1minute in: th-cam.com/video/0vWNqPeO_6w/w-d-xo.html
@@JasonYadlovski Many thanks for that, could save a lot of time as sometimes i have loads of clips.
Thanks! When i export from resolve do I need change output color space setting to make it look like it does in Resolve on iPhone?
Usually you are exporting to Rec. 709 Gamma 2.4 unless you are on a Mac, then export to Rec. 709-A.
Thank you for this! Ok so question, I have some footage recorded on a iPhone 14 pro max as a plate to integrate some cg into so I need to put it into nuke with a IDT but can’t find anything so I’m going to do exactly as you said in the video, then how would I export this as a IDT or into nuke and into a Aces workflow,
Thank you in advance
Hi! So that's little out of my wheel house, I don't know about IDT or Aces. Sorry I can't help more on that...
Hi Jason, thank you so much vor this tutorial!
I just tried this with a video and it worked well.
But I have a "small" problem and maybe you or another person could help me.
I think the problem started with the iPhone 12 and I'm currently using the iPhone 14. So I've been recording private videos with my iPhone for about 3-4 years having this issiue.
In order to then transfer these to my Windows PC, I select “Keep originals” in the Photos settings on the iPhone. If I select "automatically" the timestamp is reset and I don't want that.
However, as you described here, the copied video is not the same as on the iPhone. The colors don't look good/real.
Now, as already mentioned, I managed to improve the colors with the help of your instructions. However, I would also have to do it for over 500 other videos.
Doing all of this individually would be a huge effort.
So my question is:
Is it possible to set the color settings once for several videos in DaVinci Resolve and then export/render them all as individual videos?
Yes, you can drop all the clips in the timeline, adjust the color settings, then when you export there's an option to export individual files - it will make each timeline clip it's own file.
Hi @@JasonYadlovski , thank you so much for your quick response!
And also thank for the solution.
I have an additional question^^
Is it also possible to give automatically the filname from the source file?
When go to "Deliver" I can't see a option to say like "keep original name" or something like that. Is there a way to configure that?
Thank you so much
I'm not sure if there is a ways to specify it....I feel like there is, but I'd have to dig into it some more....
so, what you want to do is first node is CST: rec2020 into dwg, do your work, new CST thats DWG back into REC709 so it looks scene refered.
Wow.... Saved MY ASS. Thank you sir!!
You're welcome!
Does this need to be done every time for iPhone 13 footage? Or is there a way to make a preset that automatically knows it's iPhone footage? Thank you so much for this super helpful tutorial, Jason!
You can make a preset or save a powergrade. You can also set the project color settings for iphones and save that a project preset.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you!!! You're the man! 😀
@@JasonYadlovski Not an expert as not been using it for long but you could make a template with a colour space, and could also set the template to the correct fps that you use as well, i may be wrong but im sure someone will correct me if i am.
did you manage to make a preset for this as i cant seem to manage to as you need to have a clip to be able to make a node. thanks
Jason, If you are using a an external monitor off your backbook pro, do you need a change your color space profile within your davinci resolve? I am finding a bit of a shift in colors when i export video from DR to my phone.
If you are using a Mac, you need to set the timeline colorspace to Rec.709-A. That is for all Macs, external or internal monitor.
@@JasonYadlovski yeah that’s I’ve been trying to do but I only have to options in the display setting of OS - Rec.ITU-R BT.2020-1 and Rec.ITU-R BT.709-5
Would either of these be correct ?
You would just set the timeline color space to Rec.709-A. My OS Color profile is just set the my external monitor - LG HDR WQHD. I never changed anything in the OS, just in Resolve. I'm not sure about the ones you listed above. You can try dropping a comment on Darren Mostyn's channel, he might answer you and give you a better answer than me. He's a color grading master. Tell him I sent you there, might help. 😜
A year late on this but I just discovered it :-) When I shoot on my iphone 13 the color profile says "P3 D65 (12.1.6)". I saw other videos that recommended changing the color space to rec.709, which I did and it looked better, but why not use the P3 D65 color profile? Also, the input gamma dropdown makes no sense to me, so I wouldn't know what to change it to for P3 D65. What do you think?
I would say, just use whatever looks the best to you, but I think the idea is that you take the color space that your camera shooting, in your case P3 D65, and you want to change it to a Rec. 709 format because that’s the correct color space for viewing on TVs and monitors. so whenever you render something out, it should always be in rec 709, for the most part.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks! I guess I thought that you're supposed to match the color space from your phone, not monitor. But not everyone is going watch the footage on my phone 🙂
