As someone who literally wears gloves very similar to those on a daily basis, my guess is they're nitrile rubber. Works fine for avoiding contamination and covering up fingerprints, don't use them when handling dimethyl sulfoxide unless you like the taste of garlic in your mouth for several hours. (And melted gloves)

Or at least a part of the Council in charge of things like that.

The 'fruity oaty bar' ad? Huh, maybe. I don't remember seeing a company name in the commercial. [research noises] On review, they only mention the product name in the commercial, not what brand it's from - but the first visual is of a bright blue cartoon sun rising over some hills right before the animated singers show up, so it's safe to say it's a Blue Sun product. Also, they do a pretty good job of making everything cartoonishly happy - and also disturbing. The animation for "make a man out of a mouse" doesn't seem to be very pleasant, and the "make you bust out of your blouse" bit has a background of hurricane winds bending trees sideways with 'NOT MANDATORY' flashing in all caps. That, plus the subdued tone of the singers... Yeah, that commercial is _totally_ not creepily bizarre.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Alliance discovered a useful program conducted by Blue Sun and offered to fund it in exchange for using its results for their own puposes. The DARPA agency in the U.S. was established for just that purpose. (Although they also encourage private industry to take up useful defense technologies with grants and contracts.)
There is a Firefly RPG. I say this cause maybe there's more information there. Who knows. Also as a side note. There's a Doctor Who RPG. Never know where you will find answers to questions.

In the novel we discover that they are psychically linked humans, altered in a similar way to River, but designed to keep psychic experiments like River in check. Enforcers of a sort. In the book the women’s mission wasn’t River, but a different psychic.

Serenity (the film) definitely didn't quite fit with the events of the Series. In the film, Mal distinctly says that Simon and River had been on his boat for 8 months, but in Episode 11 ("Trash") he tells his friend Monty that Saffron had tricked her way aboard Serenity "About half a year back." Those events were from Episode 6 ("Our Mrs. Reynolds"), so that would mean that all the events seen in Episodes 1-5 and 12-Serenity only took place across 2-4 months? I think the line should've been '18 months' instead.

It was my understanding that the 2 by 2 hands of blue were indeed androids made by the Blue Sun corporation but the blue skin was to deal with the parts of their body that could not easily be covered by A more realistic artificial skin and that they went in pairs because they're AI processing capability was not strong enough to function as a single unit!
I came to the conclusion that the Hands of Blue were specially designed clones. Episode 12's "The Message" introduced cloned organs using a technology (telemeres?) that weren't fully developed, requiring a human incubator. I could imagine that Blue Sun had developed full, but imperfect, clones that were made immune to the abilities that River had been 'gifted with'. But that's just my head cannon.
You want a TNG crossover with Firefly. Look up Lost in the Woods. It is well written despite it not being an official publisher. A nice way to say fanfic, but one that is just as well or better-written then cannon versions.
I like where you're headed. If it's just ship to ship, then I think the Rocinante easily destroys the Serenity. If it's crew on crew, it's a little dicier. I mean, River alone could take most of them down. Although, if Bobby is there in Martian power armor, it might be a stalemate. Also, there's the question of would they even fight? They might initially clash, due to some misunderstanding. I suspect, though, they'd eventually end up working together. Even if only temporarily.

I kind of prefer the idea that they are humans who have been significantly altered, rather than entirely synthetic. That makes them even more disturbing than if they were some kind of Terminator-style robot, at least in my opinion.
I'm not sure if I've watched all of this program but I have watched some of it and I've watched the film. My big brother got the film on DVD and I watched that before I even knew it was a series originally. I quite enjoyed what I saw. It came highly recommended from my scifi mad pal/work colleague who is pals with Amamda Tapping (Carter from Stargate). She said it was good and I should watch it. 👍

A Star Trek Serenity crossover would quickly result in a sane and in control River. Between starfleet medicine, and a betazed counselor much or her disassociation and brain damage would be repaired. She would be much more dangerous than in her broken state. I think the Serenity would likely get some much needed maintenance as well. Oh, this part you can't afford? Replicated. Hull stress? We have tools for that. Cross wired all to hell? Scotty would approve.

They wouldn't be able to make Firefly today because of the Lost Causer premise that was baked into the lore. They would have to really rewrite the series so that it conforms to Canadian history, in which it would take place after a corporate war.

He did it by making no references to the ACW, and used the Pemmican War as inspiration.

Whedon was given the _Serenity_ (2005) movie to tie up loose ends and failed to do so. ¬_¬ It's like he forgot about this entire story-line that the whole show was based on. 🤦 Whedon offloading the story to a comic is as pointless as making season eight of _Buffy_ a comic. • I'm so sick and tired of people simping for this show when it was meh at best. 🙄 Maybe other people haven't seen many shows to compare to.
I hear you! I have a list of other shows to compare Firefly to. There's space opera that came before it, such as Starhunter, Lexx, Earth Final Conflict, Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, Babylon 5, Space Above and Beyond, Space 1999, UFO, and Pheonix Five.
The people who made the movie did not like the show.
