I love how the Japanese make the lion look fierce with their dance, where most cultures (that I've seen) focus on a happier dance. All are awesome, but I love the Japanese dance the best. =3
I like how it has to twist around to get the hair out of its eyes. Ha ha ha. It's kinda intimidating looking, but when it does that I can't help but think of it as cute.
When I first came here I heard that the Japanese Lion Dance was just plain creepy and I thought how bad could it be. When the lion came out and began spazzing out and snapping randomly I just went "... Oh." But it's still one of my favorites along with the Tibetan lion dance because the Japanese one is so unique
@wushulion thanks for interesting opinion. and you said, you are a lion dancer yourself? that's great! these days, in Japan, unfortunately younger generations are not carrying on this particular tradition of the new year celebration and it's hardly seen these years. fyi, japanese people never saw real lion until way later than this dance was established so the head design was created based on the one came from china and other paintings with bit of japanese people's imagination
@mamochan0821 Hi mamochan, oh woaw i didn't know that about japanese lion dance, thanks for the info. And as for the culture, i feel the very same way about mine aswell. Alot of chinese kids laugh at their own culture when they see it. Some even can't tell the difference between a dragon and a lion dance. I get quite envious of how proud the koreans and japanese are of their language, culture and traditional dressings.
Wow,a look at Japanese culture other than anime and manga. Many anime-loving people overlook the rich culture about Japan. The samuri, the dances, the religion, all overlooked by silly cartoons. People's minds work wonders :P
@steven14778 She is an artist who makes comics and has a deviant art account where she put up drawings and links to Asian lion dances, such as this one, from different places. She is a fan of them :)
@adth446 the lion dance in Asian region came from India originally and yes, in India, they have lions. But the design of lion dance heads are deformed extremely.
@BLARGpower Nope. You're the absolute only person sent here by an artist with 72,114,259 deviation views and 70,607 followers. Good question, congrats on the thumbs up.
@ZephImmortal ahh, you and I the same, i also like fierce lion dance characters. I quite like the snapping of the teeth. Here is a link to a traditional chinese lion dance done by malaysian team in a competition. also very fierce. enjoy /watch?v=Y3qIZtD_PNc&feature=related
@Thatswhatshesaid446 I totally agree. It pisses me off. You have to wonder how many people actually sit and watch the video and how many are like *click* OMG I HAVE TO COMMENT ABOUT HERRRR.
hope you have great opportunity to be exposed to wider audiences including foreign countries. Because sometimes it helps that people outside recognize the rare value of out culture and that stimulates those younger generation. Like American Blues was not appreciated and treasured after it was born but European musicians became big fans of it and the music was re-introduced to the Americans by them
@mamochan0821 what you say is true but i would have to elaborate on a certain degree here. Yes lions in asian culture comes from india just like how Buddhism did. However the dance itself started during the days of the silk road, when persian lions were given to the chinese emperor, and loved these creatures thus the creation of northen chinese lion dance. of course i only speak for the northern chinese lion dance which is the extent of my knowledge. P.S i'm a lion dancer =]
I'm a Vietnamese & VN is located in South East Asia. As I knew, Japanese Lion Dance is truly the dance of the lion. There're may be some different costumes for the dancers in Lion and some different dancing ways depending on the areas. You guys should watch other videos also. They seem to be not very traditional, they seem to be more enjoyable. I think the Chinese one is now not exactly Lion dance. The costumes of the dancers look like Kilin appearance & so colorful.... I think there are 3 types of this kind of dances that often take place place in East Asia in Mid- Autumn Festival: 1. Lion Dance : used to be traditionally in almost every countries in East Asia. Now only some still keep it. 2. Dragon Dance : in almost every countries in East Asia 3. Kilin Dance : that's always mistakenly reffered to as Lion dance. The original stories of Kilin dance are different from one country to another andform one area to another in one country. Sometimes , we do also have Kilin dance- Lion dance- Dragon dance show in some special occasion, even in competitions. Thank you for reading

i love how playful the lion dancer gets in the end
well, this is our tradition to chase demons and evils away at the new year's day so the head has to look scary.
I love shishimai dances
And I love the drum 🥁
It’s better than what my race does to lions that’s for dang sure

The music reminds me of every time it is a festival in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
It's like a little dog at the end LOL.
That jaw clacking kinda reminds me of the balinese barong dance
I like Japanese things but I kinda like Chinese lion dancing better

@steven14778 She's like the god of Deviantart, she does a bunch of random comics and stuff, and she's Danish :P
This makes me think of Labyrinth. It could be Ludo's cousin.
@BLARGpower me~
Is there only one person operating that thing
this is really creepy, I think I like the Chinese and Tibetan versions better!
I desperately want a miniature version of this thing.
