I do sympathize with the NATO Ambassador - getting Canada to contribute 2% of GDP to military expenses is like trying to get a teenage child to clean their room even though they are staying in your house rent free.
That said, why should we trust Trudeau to be in charge of a bigger and more funded military?
I agree 1000% that we should pay the 2%. But rent free? Rent free would mean we’re paying 0%. Rent free is inaccurate.

At its current state, it's barely a defense force like Ireland has.
The CAF can't independently deploy itself. The navy doesn't have a hospital ship, or aircraft carrier, the airforce doesn't have enough serviceable planes, half the army vehicles can't get wet. The have no amphibious vehicles or landing capability. The army abolished its engineer corps in the 70's I doubt if they could even bridge over a river to get a tank over it. 10% of the MBTs are in ukrain canada is just now placed an order for f35 jets that the liberals said they would never buy 10 years ago.

0:32 they did not commit to spend 2%. The language is clear. We ASPIRE to reach 2% was the actual language Canada agreed to. Big difference to note in this argument.
They did commit. All NATO members are required to spend 2 percent. The aspire part is if they could not do it immediately. They still must spend 2 percent within 3-5 years.

"At the 2023 Vilnius Summit, NATO Leaders agreed a new Defence Investment Pledge, making an enduring commitment to investing at least 2% of GDP annually on defence."
Who makes these plans?? I never voted for NATO to make decisions about my country. I can’t afford for “just-inflation” to suck more of my money that I’m so heavily taxed on in every way to meet these NATO plans.
