Verruckt is definitely one of my favourite maps, not just in aesthetic but for a challenging and oppressive map. The tight hallways and only a few open-ish rooms to train in make for a horrifying BO1 experience, and the WAW sprinters and unreliable Jug make the map either a nightmare or make you feel like you're going insane with how long you've been surviving for.
Verrüct wins my, “Most Challenging Map” award. As a child, I never laid a finger on it after playing it once. As a teenager, it gave me constant anxiety after coming back. And as an adult, I see it like looking at a shot glass when you’re already drunk as it stands there asking in your head, “Think you can take it?”
This is something I've never thought about before but you're right. It would've been very easy for them to have just made it dark and spooky like Nacht but instead they chose to make it take place during the day. And it actually makes it feel even more creepy because the horror doesn't try to hide behind the fear of the unknown, Verrückt is genuinely terrifying on it's own merits.
You should really do one on Shi No Numa; that and verrukt, were so unsettling. If you knew about the Japanese and the lore behind the map, it’s haunting.
Thank you so much for recognising this masterpiece of a map and playing the definitive and best (original) version. So many just flog to the lazy Black Ops 1 port with more boring weapons or worse yet, the Black Ops 3 (remaster) which destroyed all sense of anxiety and atmosphere in favour of easier streamlined mechanics. Team work is something surely lost from play cod zombies (outside of those easter egg quests that require multiple players). Surviving as a team is what made OG zombies so much fun. People now go back and play Nacht or Zombie Verruckt and train and run solo and say its boring with less features. People can play games however they want to of course, but OG zombies is at its best when playing as a team and tactically planning strategies or challenges with coordination. Was so much fun and such a shame this ideology is long gone nowadays. I still play World at Was N*** Zombies regularly, I literally played it two hours before writing this comment lol. Great video!
BO3 is maybe the only option for people right now. I didn’t like the new guns, but the Zombies are more aggressive. So it technically is harder. The other thing is I have never seen or can get the old Easter eggs to work, did they remove them?
Verruckt is the hardest map I’ve ever played, the map design is just way more cramped. And that paired with the monstrous sounds coming out of the zombies made for an actually scary map
I never owned Verruckt in CoD WaW or BO, but this map, is just one of my favorites. The Aslyum feel, the teammate separation, the cramp spaces, Idk why, but this map is just one of my all time favorites
one reason not many people know why this map was so much harder was the AI was different for the zombies. when u tried to train them around the map they would flipflop and actually go the opposite way to cut you off. either the zombies AI was different or the maps positioning was off where the halfway mark was. was the hardest zombies map of them all honestly
Waw version is my favorite because of the trash springfield and the sprinters. Bo1 version is nice with removing the springfield for the kar98k and adding the winters howl. Bo3 version is just striaght up boring thanks to gobblegums.
Verrukt is my favorite cod zombie as my number 1, as it's the only map to still give me anxiety and fear to this day, I also just love the hard tough challenge.
I’ve played Verruckt a total of 1 time. The map has always given me this helpless feeling. It’s ironic since I never feel that way on Nacht Der Untoten. Maybe it’s the close quarters spacing and limited resources but that map I always have a hard time playing. Great map tho and excellent video.
Everyone is talking about Verrückt, but we ain't talking about the editing in this video that's making it twice as terrifying😅😅😭, amazing work and analyzing👏🏾👏🏾
Man your videos are genuinely very well put together, the BRoll is outstanding, and well planned out, the script is great, and not to mention all the smoothly woven sound bites and sound effects throughout. Really impressive. As a zombies player since WaW in 4th grade, I will admit I never played Verruckt when I was younger, bc I was genuinely scared (and not good enough) to do so. This gave me some new insight on the map, even 15 years later.
I always preferred the more difficult zombie maps. Everyone loves maps like Der Riese and Buried but those maps were always just way too easy for me. I LOVED maps like Verrukt, Shangri-La and Five. They actually provided challenge.
I remember back in 2011-2012 we always used to play every zombie's map with my friends but we always end up in Verruckt trying to hold on as much as we could in that tiny room where you could buy the BAR, the amount of times our PS3's were about to explode because of it but damn we had good laughs in this map
We did it opposite. We held down the quick reload pop machine and shot through the kitchen. If you kept the door to the left to the stairway closed, no zombies would come in through the window behind the pop machine. It was a weird glitch but gave us the opportunity to riddle that room with bouncing Bettys if we ever had to fall back a bit. All four guns on the kitchen.
I vividly remember the first time I played Verrückt as a middle schooler. Remembering how freaked out I was to play it alone. I think it's my favorite WaW zombies map because of it.
Verruckt sure is a scary map, a lot of zombies will come out and then the players would have an adrenaline rush just to run around and start shooting and the scary ambiance noises sounded like a deep depression when there's one more zombie left then the sounds would start.
Just wanna let you know if you continue to cover a bit more thing for WaW zombies, the Browning 1919 isn't a .50 cal Machine gun, it's 30-06 (or you could call it .30 cal, both were used), the same round that the M1 Garand and 1903 Springfield. The .50 BMG M2 Browning machine gun and the .30 cal M1919 Browning were designed by the same man though, John Moses Browning. Keep up with the great vids though man, they're amazing!
I dont have as much nostalgia for verruckt cos it terrified me as a kid so i only played it once, but looking back and playing it now its a masterpiece
This was the second map I ever played and I was hooked. I spent hours after schooldays trying to get further and further. I was absolutely entranced and on edge listening to the ghosts, and discovering more and more horrific environmental story telling every time I played. I never knew the daytime could be so scary. I was obsessed with Verrückt. When I finally moved on, shi no numa just didn’t implement the atmosphere the same, and Der Riese came closer but felt a little more sterile. The air raid sirens also became comforting after a while. I’ve never had a zombies experience like this since and I’m kinda disappointed. Maybe it’s because I was so young and naive, and my imagination would make things scarier than they were.
Been really enjoying your videos, after I watched "When Call of Duty took itself seriously" I saw that your other videos were great quality as well. Hope to see more from you soon.
I played the waw version again after years of not touching it. Compared to the time we spemt on BO2 & 3. When playing Verrückt again. Our enjoyment of the challenge soon turned desperation. And the sounds & atmosphere brought a fear I haven't felt in cod zombies since I first played back in the day.
Also, a fun fact with this map that most don't seem to be aware of is a very patriotic chant you can hear over the courtyard. Alot of people seem to know about the circus theme, but not the other one. 3arc's team really knew what they were doing when they made this game and its insane attention to detail they've honestly never topped.
I believe the WaW version of Verruckt to be the scariest incarnation of the map. Just the zombies that sometimes will sprint at you while making the same noises as the zombies on Nacht is reason enough for me.
My brother and I just started playing some WAW zombies again after many years and our first map was Verrückt. It was so tense that when the round was at an end, my brother came running around the corner suddenly and I jumped so hard I made a triple 360.
My friends and I used to do the 2 v 2 challenge. We would see which team would survive longer on their side of the map. You could open up doors until the power room, so no perks or mystery box. In our experience anyway, the quick revive side had the advantage, because of that downstairs area and more often than not, we could train them even on higher levels. Juggernogs side I felt was harder.
I think it would've been a lot more interesting if Monty's radio about Verrückt was more montone or deadpan rather than carrying his mix of laid-back humor that he has. Hes basically omnipotent, and omnipresent. It would've been really ingeresting to see what he would have to say considering he could only watch what was happening in Verrückt. Unable to interfere.
Even with mods on BO1 that make the map much easier, Verrukt is still an on edge experience where any little mistake can be the end. Like the Freeze Ray obliterating zombies with in one hit no matter what and more common powerups don't even make it a walk in the park... and I love it for that! But also, we used camping spots coming from Kar side of the map, for the kitchen, Speed Cola Room and Thompson.
I remember as a kid (around 10 to 14 yrs old) I would only play Kino and The giant. But when I got a bit older I started playing Verruckt and became really good. I remember my brothers would never play it because “it was a trash map” but because they kept going down. But I got good to the point where I was able to do it solo and my brothers would not say anything lol.
Just found your channel. Downloaded all your vids to watch on my breaks at work! Keep up the great work man. (Also small useless note the Browning LMG is a 30-06 not a .50 doesn't change the very well done video though)

Also the Double Barrel was the best gun at that time was a 1 hit headshot to about round 20 and even at 30 40 it was still a couple to few hit kill and can ammo on the wall
Hay so for console there is another perfect camping spot. Go from jug side, through power, to the speed cola room, as long as you don’t buy the door between the stairs and speed that window spawn won’t activate. It’s the perfect camping room

Running in circles in coop works fine till the mid 20s - but never reached anything higher than 32 (talking BO1)
Seeing multiplayer waw looks strange its been so long dope video tho
You forgot to mention that high rounds can be achieved using traps and the flamethrower although very difficult
They should bring it back but let us be able to run through the courtyard
There's actually a map in advanced warfare with split team spawn, I always thought this was a great idea
To me it has to be Five. That map was mental.
Shii maybe I do belong here then because i find peace playing this map and I love everything about it
If I were to pick a map and the rest deleted. I'd pick Verruckt.
