- Warning! Do only with a Directional Slip Clutch attachment to hold the socket!! Caution with the drill. It should be one that free spins as the motor will spin much faster than the drill. Don’t leave the drill on give it a click and pull it off quickly. It doesn’t take many revolutions to start.
this is genuinely how i start my lawn mower cause its always had a hard time starting xD
Check your valves, they may need adjusting. That tends to make them hard to start
@@RonKnowsStuff Why not fix it instead?
@@andyouandme it’s not broken, my shoulder is
@@RonKnowsStuffLol
When he says "clockwise" and if you're still unsure, just remember to spin the drill in the exact same direction that the pull cord rotates the starter assembly.
Cheers!
Well said!
If they don't know what clockwise means, they probably shouldn't be handling power equipment in this way.
I've done this, 2 problems, 1, you can accidentally loosen the flywheel nut, also, it can kick out of your hands. Moving forward i will use a ratcheting adapter to keep these from happening
Makes sense to me!
I’ve broken so many of those drill to 1/2 drive adapters doing this lol
It is worth it! Harbor Freight to the rescue!
Weld it to the flywheel problem solved
NOT ADVISABLE. I had a crankshaft retaining nut fly VERY far away because the engine started and the drill couldn't keep up.
If an engine wont start correctly then FIX THE PROBLEM.
Do it right. Don't get hurt.
Sound advice! This tactic is dangerous
Much safer to do this with a 1/2 impact. Yes, you might tighten the bolt but the impact will freespin, a drill will lock up which could break something.
Good to know that the impact driver has that feature!! Thanks for sharing. Amazon does sell a clutch for a regular drill too
If only this worked on my dirtbike.
Oh man!!
My mower doesn't turn over that easily and I attempted this one day when my pull rope broke and I just wanted to finish mowing the yard. Needless to say I didn't get it done until I replaced the pull rope and had to figure out how to reset the spring inside the pull rope reel
You have to exercise caution when doing this. Sorry it didn’t work for you
@RonKnowsStuff my battery powered drill didn't do the job so I used a drill with a cord and it fired right up.. yesterday my pull rope 💔 and I spent hours taking it apart and putting it back together. I then seen your video and I'm not putting that stupidity pull rope back on it
@@bendaves77 nice! Just be careful with the torque!
My poor dad's drill when I did something similar as a kid with my mini bike. That drill split in half haha.
Yikes! They make a clutch type device to attach to the drill and socket to allow it to overspin.
That man is a smart man
They make a clutch attachment for the drill to prevent over spinning . It will prevent any possible injuries. Thanks for watching!
It's ok with the plug out and check compression
Very true
I do this too, but I use a directional slip clutch to hold the socket so that once the engine starts, it is not spinning the drill.
Exactly! I couldn’t think of the name of that tool. I’ll have to remember Directional Slip Clutch. Thanks!!!
@@RonKnowsStuff Your welcome. I learned the hard way when it spun the chuck off my drill the first time I tried it. 😂
@@RonKnowsStuff can you give an example? I'm trying to avoid injury and I don't seem to find the correct adapter/tools to do this with the drill
@@marcoenkel here’s one from Amazon - not sponsored. a.co/d/4eHd6ZM
@@RonKnowsStuff
I do it. it works perfectly well
Great! Please be careful though. they do make a clutch type device for the drill so it won't overspin and hurt you
We have a push mower with a bad pull start and so we do this 😊
Please continue to be cautious and keep on cutting!! Thanks for watching!!!
ive done this more times then id like to admit
That seems to be a common practice
It's good until you break or strip the threads off the nut or worse.
It helps me with my shoulder though
Thanks
I’ve seen devices that have a clutch in them so you don’t risk snapping your wrist
That bolt was not intended for that purpose, with an impact. So no. Not recommended
Extreme caution when following anything on the internet
Nut flew off last time i did this.
Holy POO!!
Dangerous as shit, if drill won't come off I wouldn't try it.
Agreed. It is definitely something that tons of caution is needed. They now sell a clutch for the drill making it much safer.
It’s best to try this at your own risk, I wouldn’t recommend it cause the drill can’t really keep up, for reference, my dewalt dcd771 drill spins up to 1,800 rpm and the engine in the video I’m guessing is around 3,500-4,000 rpm
You are correct! There is a adapter for the drill that lets it overspin without harm
just drain the carb when ur done using it so that next time u can start it first pull with choke
I do this as I have a bad shoulder and can't pull the cord. It sucks getting old!
Which is better for a petrol-scooter, electric-drill or push-start.?
= hate the kick-starter
Maybe need to figure out the wiring harness of a car oops 115cc petrol-scooter with kick/electric/maybe-push. Usually scooter have 3 ways. Magneto something solenoid something CDI something, ... grass-cutter with electric start hanes-(types of)manual maybe... but... nevermind. Society have too many jealous losers at 115cc carburetion locomotion
Car drivers and their flooded smelly wiring are probably saboteurs of 115cc petrol-scooter and 660cc petrol-car. Some characters...
Nowadays, they control-signal stupid with electrical wires and ... how many kilograms is that harness.?
Wait till you find out formula-one sabotage... android-games at zero-cc(cubic-centimeters)
I would push start so you won’t have to store the drill
Will this work on my two stroke inline 4 desiel laylend?
Good question! Diesels need combustion to spark and light off. I’d imagine it would but PLEASE be careful- I recommend getting a clutch attachment for your drill so it can free spin
@@RonKnowsStuff Ron does in fact not know stuff
@@QUAKY_A dang it! I do know what I know though, you know?
@@RonKnowsStuff I know you know what you know and not not what you know
Can you do this if your starter motor went bad?
Should be able to so long as the starter isn’t engaged
Does your recoil have a part number on it? It's the one I need.
Are you talking about the red top?
@@RonKnowsStuffThe black part at 0:08 that you refer to as the starter coil
@@BlueRage try searching Amazon, PA6 GF30 should work.
@@RonKnowsStuff Thanks. Yours has three bolts holding it on, so does mine, PA6 GF30 has six.
Will look again but those numbers are the only ones that point to a part
am i the only one who wants a pull starter over an electric start?
I have a bad shoulder so I had to go in this direction.
Just wait until the socket gets stuck on the nut. It happened to me. 😱
Oh no! Definitely have to be careful!
If you have a tapered shaft for the flywheel it will explode into pieces…ask me how I know.
Oh no!!!
Juat buy a ratcheting attachment for you drill that are literally designed for starting engines, that way you won’t ruin ur drill
Agreed! I found one on TEMU
I did try that and the bit twisted and broke off so i couldn't do shit after that
Crap! I’m sorry it failed for you. I have a bad shoulder so I have no choice. They do make a device that acts as a clutch on the drill bit so it won’t over spin
@@RonKnowsStuff that's good
Thats a weird looking mower
It shoots water! LOL
This works untill it doesnt
Yep. The warranty is a good as long as the parts work.
I wish my mower would just start
Oh no! What’s it doing? Do you have compression?
@@RonKnowsStuff needs a starter and I burned my drill up and yesterday I put a pulley on the motor so I could pull start it and it won't start lol
@@ligmaballs5536 oh crap! Check for spark first. Might be a safety switch or something you can bypass. Good luck!
Or just buy an electric starter kit....
I’m too cheap
VERY DANGEROUS do NOT try this
Agreed! I recently found an attachment that has a clutch mechanism built in that is much safer.
It's electric
Boogie oogie woogie.
Its actually drill start.
True
Bad advice bud‼️
I’ve been a professional small engine mechanic for 41 years and this is a great way for someone to get hurt and or destroy the crankshaft or their tools.
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ADVICE ON A SUBJECT THAT YOU ARE NOT A PROFESSIONAL IN‼️🙄
I have warnings all over the place. I need to do this as I have a bad shoulder- I do use a clutch on the drill which greatly reduces risk. Again - warning ! Try at your own risk as this is dangerous.
Главно чтобы тебя в месте с ним не намотала
Caution is to be taken
You where earplugs
No ear plugs until after it’s running. You need to hear the pitch of the motor so you can pull the drill off without snapping your wrist off
He doesn't need ear plugs, he needs teeth guards, face guard & helmet and NO one needs to be near when he does this
Wear
😂😂 yeah id pay money to watch you do that on some of the 2 stroke boat motors i have. you would snap your wrist
Hard pass! They do make a clutch for the drill though that might help
