I work at a Neighborhood Market and yes this song is on Walmart radio's playlist and it's one of the handful of good songs they play. And one that I feel is kind of obscure. I doubt anyone else working at my store would even know who this is. They also play Mushaboom by Feist(Conor has covered it) and I feel like that one is kind of obscure too.

Dylan Thomas will probably hold up as one of my favorite singles of the year. Hell, the album will probably land high on my lists as well.

Named my first born son after Conor. Love this song and all his music. The best song writer on earth. Pheobe is amazing too. Love both of them so much.
In 20 odd years THIS is now my all time favorite Conor Oberst. I grew up listening to bright eyes in late 90s so had the pleasure of experiencing you live in concert and been of the same age just the songs were amazing, The Bright Eyes folder is always the largest on any playlist. Then sort of learning and discovering your past such as Commander Venus which turn linked me to the universe which is Saddle creek and the cascade of Amazing bands and artists that flood that joint.. . . And I'll admit I didn't like any of Mystic Valley Band Wasn't a fan of well the last 10 years. I didn't mean I didn't play Bright eyes almost every day It was just the older stuff, and the Desaparecidos. And I feel that we were both stuck in a grutt trying to stay in the past. Trying to bring back or force the emotion that was felt on stages during the Bright eyes live concerts post 2000. So yeah don't want to talk about the last few years but this new Conor who is smiling !! And having fun in music videos. I know I don't know anything about your presonal life or follow you so I could just be completely naive about what your like in real life.. BUT this smiling Conor almost like a new conor, we still have the old conor history and songs and depression and heart break, but this new Conor with a possible bright future ahead and more awesome songs.. Love it !.
Conor Oberst, Phoebe Bridgers, directed by Michelle Zauner featuring Christian Lee Hutson as Matthew from Downton Abbey with a special guest appearance from Marshall's Juul. This song is simultaneously ridiculous and beautiful. The video is a masterpiece as if we didn't need another reason to know that Japanese Breakfast holds every talent. Also the freshest thing Conor has done in some time. Really excited with his direction on this record!
sk00ma she’s an amazing artist. Her only album is “Stranger In The Alps” But she did this band, Better Oblivion Community Center, with Conor Oberst. She also has a few singles. Oh, and she’s part of the supergroup boygenius with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. She’s amazing. I suggest you listen to more of all of her stuff. You won’t be disappointed.
i got the chance to see phoebe bridgers open for best coast back in the day in san francisco. it's crazy to see the amazing things she's up to now, and I'd love to get her to perform for 'smallsongs' !
Love being the literature nerd that I am knowing the beginning line that includes, “quite early one morning,” is the posthumous collection of prose from Dylan Thomas. Been a long time fan of both Conor and him. Use to sit watching The Doors Movie at 16 writing villanelles like Dylan Thomas’ form of his most famous poem, “Do not go gentle into that good night,” because it’s been perceived by scholars as a youthful form. Wound up writing my first epic-four page poem-at 16. Bright Eyes was played a lot and Cassadaga came out with more fire to play with. It’s also a long-time rumor that Bob Dylan changed his last name from Zimmerman to Dylan because of the Welsh poet or the Rimbaud of Cwmdonkin Drive. Jesus Christ, I just realized I went on way too long. Oh well, I appreciate it if you enjoyed reading.
Very interesting. I was just going to google Dylan Thomas. Wish I had had so much exposure to music/poetry/arts at your age. (UpperCrustthe3rd should study Dylan Thomas given he clearly hasn't anything better to do.)
Great to see the core of our creation, returning to the source, channeling pure cosmic energy and being a light in the darkness. Good to see them having fun, enjoying the now, and creating a new entity of love and light. Climb up in that tree of life. I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOUR LOVE
Nice to know I’ve got a new band to binge. Nostalgia of hearing Conor’s voice and lyricism hits hard, and Phoebe, well it’s my first time hearing her, and her voice is beautiful. They seem to complement one another’s sound really well. God Bless

This song has got me through a lot recently, not really sure why, but maybe just because it is great! Edit: It does kind of remind me of Summerteeth Wilco in the best possible way
had maybe three oberst vinyls that i still own the cover to salutations was sort of cool and i liked the background story to ruminations as well as the lyrics in both, may have been reminded of bob dylan in some ways and may have been respectful of conor oberst's earlier works and integrity to his career as an example early recordings i heard about and i think the first conor oberst cd i had was lifted or the story is in the soil that was powerful i got it from a cd store in old town alexandria that was on king street and i think that day i also bought my first and only fugazi cd that years later i couldn't help but describe the depth of the content

It was quite early one morning
Hit me without warning
I went to hear the general speak
I was standing for the anthem
Banners all around him
Confetti made it hard to see
Put my footsteps on the pavement
Starved for entertainment
Four seasons of revolving doors
So sick of being honest
I'll die like Dylan Thomas
A seizure on the barroom floor
I'm getting greedy with this private hell
I'll go it alone, but that's just as well
These cats are scared and feral
The flag pins on their lapels
The truth is anybody's guess
These talking heads are saying
"The king is only playing a game of four dimensional chess"
There's flowers in the rubble
The weeds are gonna tumble
I'm lucid but I still can't think
I'm strapped into a corset
Climbed into your corvette
I'm thirsty for another drink
If it's advertised, we'll try it
And buy some peace and quiet
And shut up at the silent retreat
They say you've gotta fake it
At least until you make it
That ghost is just a kid in a sheet
I'm getting used to these dizzy spells
I'm taking a shower at the Bates Motel
I'm getting greedy with this private hell
I'll go it alone, but that's just as well

This is so much of what I want to do with my own music, its such a pretty set of tone and reflection.
This video has a very 90s tone to it in the way it's shot I love it
