As a new artist, you receive praise from people for how realistic your work is. Perhaps this engrains in you the idea that reality=success. Freedom is a lifelong adventure. I am happy to see this in your work and in your life Titus. Happiness to you.

Very interesting comments - especially the part where you explain the concept of compositional priority over realism. As an artist (and a viewer of art) it's always good to be reminded of such meta-concepts

Yes Titus I understand what you mean. There certainly is a level of appreciation for all ways of exploring wc. Maybe I am regressing but when one is in the zone so to speak then I don’t pay attention to my palette and as you were referring to, we just paint shapes. I still think about old thumbnails that are just values and what the freedom allows us to paint. I seem to get away with being a little more raw with pastels when I started in wc and oil painting, some acrylic. So I always feel like I have so very much to learn but it is a good thing, it keeps us going. Have a great weekend! Thank you 😊

Always a pleasure watching you paint and I enjoyed your musings on composition. Will check out that painters work you recommended here. A wave of the brush from Oz..

Funny, how at the start of the video I had a question about composition in my head (to what extent do you need to find a balance between moving stuff around as the composition requires vs being a slave to the scene) but you answered it in the video. Cool. I kind of fell out of painting before summer, due to work and stuff. Trying to get back into it now but I find it difficult. I'm painting despite this but not finding the flow yet. Watching stuff like this during 'in between time' helps set my mind. THanks.
PS I love the composition of the vertical piece you were retouching!

I was looking at Eugen Crhisnicean s watercolors.
I dared to make a criticism.
In muy opinion they look very loose an quickly produced.
Regarding the color, the excessive use of artificial tones takes away its naturalness hardening the whole.
Thank you for letting us know different visions.

I think there's a balance between too loose and too literal. Accuracy and truth are important to me as well but I've learned to make modifications when the composition required them.

I agree. I love detail work but still prefer to have a painterly look otherwise it would be making photos and I personally have to really think that out quite a bit. Doing made up compositional work helps free me from being too stuck I hope and also changing many things in photos or plein aire but it is always a challenge indeed. I do prefer the term painterly verses” loose” because I think that students and some instructors get stuck on what the terminology really is referring to leading to further misunderstandings perhaps. Very good point thank you. I will bring up that as a talking point with other artists tomorrow evening and ask them also how they view the terminology and what it means to them and if they have seen it impact others perhaps in a way that isn’t intended to try to explain that their paintings are their impression of whatever it is that they are painting. Thank you and have a great weekend!😊

This composition of abstract effects is Really, but I have doubts about achieving these tones in the process of mixing these pingments at the time of painting itself.Okak
