I am new to catasetum. Have bought 3 seedlings. All of them are just bulbs about 1 inch in height. Cant decide on the watering. Kindly advice on the frequency and quantity of watering nd fertilizing.
If they are only bulbs without any leaves, then they are dormant and don't need watering. If they have leaves and are actively growing, then they will need a constant supply of water and nutrients.
Hi, very interesting video about catasetums, I have 2 catasetum tenebrosum and I find them interesting, I will purchase more. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it is appreciated.
I just put the plants in LECA right when they come out of dormancy so the new roots adjust to the new media. I take care of them the same way I do for all my catasetums. If you have something specific question about growing in LECA, let me know! 😁
If you live in a very humid environment and you need the pot to dry out, a slotted pot can help. Otherwise, it’s not necessary for catasetums since they drink a lot during their growing season and need all the moisture they can get to grow as large as possible in a few months
If you stopped watering already in dormancy, wait for the new growth to have roots 3-5” long before watering. If you are still watering and no dormancy, just continue as you normally would.
New with catasetum.

Thank you for sharing info. I see one of the photos shows it potted in LECA. How do they do in LECA as they need lots of water?
The ones in LECA are in self- watering containers so I refill it when it’s empty
I didn’t know about low humidity being more inviting to spidermites thank you for the tip 🌱
No problem! Hope it helps you and saves you from learning from experience 🤣
Could you please tell me if a slotted plastic inner pot helps/does not help with planting Catasetums? Thank you!

Mine did not flower this year. Any thoughts?
There could be several reasons. Not mature enough, not enough light, or not enough nutrients.

Hi. I live in the Caribbean and my catasetum has a new growth. Should I continue watering it?

@@AttainableGreen Thank you
Thank you for showing your problems with catasetum so that we do not to experience ourselves.
