Leave a comment about your journey to Corporate America! Would love to hear your story
Corey you may have made it at this point not sure. However would love to see the how it feels to be a black man in corporate America video. As I’m one as well
What a great story that sounds like mine. Graduated with a major in music, started working for banks, then thru a temp agency I ended up working for ExxonMobil, retired at 55 with 20 years. I very happy and I'm 71 years young. I have a great life and enjoying every day. Also don't forget to have God in your life, can't do without Him. Much success to. I'm a subscriber to you. God bless ya sir.
Great story man! Thanks for sharing. And yes, God is first 🙏🏾
I am a black man from the projects in the south who now lives in New York and has earned a masters degree in business management from a top university in the country. This has resonated with me because we have a similar journey story.
As a new 28 year old twin mom. Graduated from Famu July of 2022 had my twins October 2022. Had nothing at all. Living with my mom as a single mom. Worked with a non profit as a contractor making $40k August 2023 after 2 months I quit. Started looking at other jobs December 2023 I became a mental health therapist in corrections making $75k God is good.
Wheewww! That’s awesome 👏🏾👏🏾
Corrections is always a good direction!
Somehow this showed up in my recommended suggestions. My degree was in information systems and thought I’d be an IT PM (it’s still possible). My first corporate job was at a reputable investment bank, but it was in operations. So an impressive company, but not a glamorous/prestigious job. It also didn’t help that the firm took advantage of temps so I made significantly less than the full time employees. What I will say is that it gave me a chance to learn what the traders do and offered lots of networking opportunities. The traders also gave me tons of tips in case I wanted to be one in the future. I was at the firm for 2 years but around the year mark I started applying to jobs in the DMV area where I’m from. I got rejected for all of them and it wasn’t until I started applying to firms in NYC that I got multiple interviews. It was a big risk making that move and despite being offered 6 figures I was still scared about the increased cost of living. I’m still pretty early in the job, but I definitely see more room for growth.
BROOOOO. The timing of this vid was crazy. Im from London, UK. Just graduated in January 2024 from one of the top uni's in the country and just going thru the grind of tryna get my foot into these white people doors. This was real motivating and inspiring bro, God Bless
Glad it resonated with you man ✊🏾
@@CoreyMJones3what camera do you use? For your video
Canon R6, Canon R50, and dji osmo pocket 3
@@CoreyMJones3 UPDATE: Just secured a job at a large investment bank in London!! I literally watched this video like everyday for the motivation, appreciate the good work bro!
@Jay-bq6pz yoooo congrats man!
You’re always dropping these gems just on time. I switched from call center to HR in 2 years. I recently got an offer but wasn’t excited about the salary but I reminded myself right now I’m getting the experience I’ll get the salary I want soon and u just confirmed it. Bless up!
That’s dope. Congrats on your transition. Sometimes it’s about getting in the door first, glad that happened for you 💯
@@CoreyMJones3I agree!
Never settle and pray about it is key. You have to ask God for direction. I went from working in a restaurant, to warehouse work and now working for Tesla. It took years, BUT I NEVER GAVE UP!!
Perseverance ✊🏾
Thanks so much for your transparency. I recently graduated with my bachelors. Thankfully, a few weeks after graduation, I received a job offer. The salary was for about 47K, I wanted to make at least 50 starting out. They were unwilling to negotiate. It was a bit discouraging, however, I’m just going to use this opportunity as a steppingstone to reach the bigger goal , and gain some hands-on work experience. The media has convinced people that success can happen overnight, but that is never the case. It takes time. Thank you for reminding me I’m not the only one.
It’s a part of your story brotha! 47k straits out of college ain’t bad at all. And as you know, you won’t be making that salary forever. Like you said it’s a stepping stone to get you to your desired salary. Congrats my brotha ✊🏾
Thanks so much bro@@CoreyMJones3
I like your videos. I'm a somewhat early retiree at 60. People aren't realistic about salaries, unless maybe you're in a technical field or professional health care. The internet has made everyone think they will make 100,000 out the gate. Even 50,000. My company was barely paying engineers right out of college 55,000.
40 years ago, that was acceptable.
As a young black recent CS grad this is very encouraging. Thnx Corey
I really loved your introduction. Down to earth, humble, and genuine. Thank you, man. I am unemployed right now after quitting a job from burnout. I am wrapping up a degree in tech so I am really switching industries.
God bless.
Thank you for posting this, Corey! This video proves that career growth isn't linear and gives me hope for the future. I started working as a software engineer after college and pivoted into UX. Unfortunately, I had to take a break to focus on issues with my health, and I'm trying to break back into UX in this market. It has not been easy, but my journey doesn't end here. Google has always been a goal of mine, and I hope that our paths will cross one day!
You’re welcome! Career growth definitely isn’t linear. Keep at it and you’ll be where you want to be for sure!
New subscriber here bro. This reminded me so much of my journey from leaving my hometown making 40k to making 5x that in some years after that. Congrats on all your success as well
Thank you brotha ✊🏾
28K ia CRIMINAL!!!!! I made 32K after graduation and that also was wild for me looking back on it now. I'm glad you had career progression. Yes, you do need someone to believe in you and your potential. Everyone doesn't want to support you. This is a great video.
Thanks for sharing your story Cory! Be blessed.
Love to hear my folks from SC doing good! 🙏🏽 trust when I say this story put some fire in me! Big up 💯
Gotta keep at it bro 🫡✊🏾
Thank you for this video brother 🙏🏿Really appreciate the transparency!
Thank you for the transparency! Very inspiring message. This is only the beginning!
This video is fantastic. I have a degree in business as well as a good amount of experience in accounting, but only make in the high 20’s a year. I have been looking for the next move in my career because I feel stuck. Market is a bit rough, but I keep applying. Having a few interviews, resulting in “NO”, can really be a gut punch, but I keep at it. Your video really motivates me because you and many others have experienced the same thing. All it takes is one “YES”, and then the rough journey will have been worth it. Thanks Corey!
Keep going! Your time will come 🙏🏾
This is great. I needed to hear this today. Congratulations on leveling up!🎉🎉
Great video and love the transparency. Shows it doesn’t matter where you started but how you finish. From a little town to the big city.
Enjoy all your videos bro. Gives a young black brother hope 🔥
Loved the transparency as always! This was a video I needed!!
I graduated college with a bachelors in English education, taught 7th grade English for 1.5 years, then stayed home to care for my newborn son. 3 years after leaving teaching, I have a daughter too and I'm switching into tech by starting a master in cybersecurity next month. I've lived outside of Atlanta since graduating college. I just visited Google Atlanta last Friday because our neighbor invited my family to tour the building. He works in sales. I really liked the atmosphere, especially the food haha. I'm inspired both by visiting and your channel as I start my new journey.
That’s awesome! Glad you were able to see the office! Wishing you the best of luck on your tech journey
This was dope man, thanks for the transparency here. That's a great story and proud to see how far you come and congratulations on the success you've had and will continue to have going forward. Something you said towards the end of the video made me smile - "you gotta start somewhere and have someone who's willing to believe in you and see the potential that you have and see that you're going to make it somehow".
I'm a Clinical Research Coordinator at one of the top comprehensive cancer centers and I finally found that person (my supervisor) who believes in my potential, but more importantly - believes in me and that is such a great and wonderful feeling. I damn sure didn't get it with my last position at Emory, so I'm blessed to say it's a breath of fresh air and change. Still working to get like you in terms of salary haha, but I know it'll come and I can't rush that.
Love this! This video was great and important. Thank you!
Keep doing amazing things!!❤
This was great thanks for sharing your story.
I really enjoyed this video ‼️ I feel like I’m the stage where you started at. I’m struggling to find good work,so I’ve decided to go back to school and finish my last two years of my bachelor’s degree. I needed this today
You got this bro ✊🏾
You are Amazing and helping a lot of people with your channel!!!
Thank you for sharing!! Long story short, this video was perfect timing for me!🙌🏾

Love this. Happy to share my advice, thanks for watching ✊🏾
I can’t believe I came across this video. I’m going through similar steps that you went through! Wow. The things you find on TH-cam. Great video man.
Thank you Corey! 😊 Inspiring video.
Great vid Corey 🔥
Thanks for sharing Corey 🙏🏽 this is definitely a video myself and others needed to hear. Life is nothing short of abundant with trials in our trajectory that can redirect us differently. What is truly a marker of resilience is how we navigate through them and begin to move into the right direction we want for ourselves. Still finding my way myself. Your video opened a door of opportunity for others to share their experiences/struggles which help lead us into normalizing them and finding our inner strength to press on. Thank you! Keep up with good work and with the cycling! 😊
Thanks for commenting! So true, that’s the goal. Hopefully more people will comment about their experiences and we can learn from each other. We all can eat if we share more and be transparent with each other. And of course, I’m glad the weather is getting nicer, ready to start riding again 🚴🏾♂️
I appreciate you. This is such a great video.
thank you bro I needed this
Been watching you since you been in college bruh. Love the growth.
Glad you’ve been around to see the growth! Thanks for following my journey 🙏🏾
Thank you for this! Definitely need a part two!
Coming soon
Love your vlogs and really love your transparency. You probably educated so many people with that vlog. Good luck and keep going higher and higher.
I hope so, that’s my plan to educate and inspire. Hopefully this video reaches the people that need it 🙏🏾
Yo man, I really appreciate your transparency here. I feel like it was very helpful but I really hope that you continue to strive in life man. I’ve watched a couple of your videos and I think you’re a cool dude with a good soul. Keep up the great work 💪🏼🙏🏼
Thank you! 🙏🏾 keeping the climb going!
Very relatable, thanks for sharing your experience man!
You’re welcome bro! Hope all is well ✊🏾
Bro I appreciate this so much. My mind has been going crazy because I'm sick of "just making it" I DESERVE greater too. Thanks for enlightening me
You got it bro 💯🙏🏾
Thanks for this Corey! In between jobs rn after being laid off and it’s been a really slow process getting back. Your vid gave me a much needed reminder to stay positive and keep after my goals.
Sorry to hear that man! Keep at it
Love the transparency!✊🏾
🗣️✊🏾
Thank you for being a blessing❤
Excellent video, I’m an older experienced DEI and award winning Early-Career Program leader. I’ve been impacted by the changes in tech and I’m starting over myself. As others have mentioned this video was right on time. I decided to embrace the restart but it’s def hard. Being a black man and then you have to deal with age discrimination (most people don’t realize at age 40 you are in a protected class and age discrimination increases around this time). Appreciate you, you keeping us inspired.
Thanks bro! Sorry to hear you’ve been impacted by the changes in tech. I know so many others who are in the same boat. You sound like you definitely have the experience and knowledge in the field. Right at the sweet spot of your career. I pray everything lands the way you want it to land. 🙏🏾
This was awesome to watch! I have been in Accounts Receivables/Finance/Accounting BUT I only have course work completed and No Degree. I need my Degree...I think at that point I'd be able to qualify for better positions. Even though currently I am a Senior AR Specialist, I do want to climb and have more. Thanks for sharing!!
Love this! I’m a contracted TA/Operations Coordinator now and I’m currently working on my transition. This is encouraging. Thanks for sharing!
✊🏾✊🏾
Thanks Corey, always enjoy your videos! And appreciate your vulnerability n transparency about your career n life journey. ❤
You’re welcome!
As a 45 y.o, I can attest that its never too late. Be your #1 cheerleader and never give up on yourself. 🫶🏾
Love it ✊🏾
I love that you made this video. As a black women i highly recommend hopping around to get the salary and benefits you want. I also always believe in taking a meeting if a recruiter hits you up and always looking on your current job board. Alot of us end up having to leave because we dont have advocacy in upper management. This job i am in now is the first job in almost 20 years that i got a promotion. It was not even started by me, my manager advocated for it. I will now be at 6 figures next month. This company is the first place i have been at more than 2 to 3 years. Everything is great, the moral, benefits, and pay opportunities ❤❤❤
I love that for you. And I agree, your manager can make or break you and it sucks because they have to see the potential in you. They also have to give you opportunities to grow in order to be able to advocate for promo.
Motivation! Definitely would love to hear about your journey through corporate and challenges.
You got it!
Whew! I felt this! That 28k salary took me back to a time I was making the same. I worked so hard to get to my desired salary. Still more growing to do. Thank you for your transparency!
It’s a part of the journey. We’re always going to have more growing to do as we enter new seasons of our lives ✊🏾
Love how your cousin plugged you, the co-worker as well
Great video!
These videos are incredibly helpful for me. The algorithm is perfect for pointing me to your videos. Thank you. 😊
Glad they’re helpful! Thanks for watching
I have a son in college and this is a great video to share with him. Valuable information here about salary expectations and career shifts. Thank you.
You’re welcome 🙏🏾
I love this video. Great topic.
Thank you ✊🏾
Thank you for sharing! This helps more than you may know my story is very similar.
Brother, I appreciate you sharing
Perfect timing for this!!
🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for that, never settle
❤❤❤
I have recently gotten into the hows and whys of life conversations. You never know how you arrive at certain places in life. Now that I’ve furthered my education I”m both excited and anxious about the direction my life will take. Thanks for the transparency.
Thanks for all of your recent comments on my videos too! I appreciate it 🙏🏾
This ❤ thanks for the video
I really enjoy your videos as a new viewer, and a recent graduate from HS.. they're very humbling, realistic, reassuring, and inspiring all in one. I'm going to go ahead and join the Fam (by subscribing). I'm currently in the process of enrolling in school as this is my last year being considered a newly graduate. I came across your channel looking at people's 'Day in the Life's' in careers I have interest in. You're very down to earth, and that really pulled me into wanting to know more about your journey to where you are now. Thank you for sharing with us, and incase you forgot lol, would you mind still doing that video about insight in the workforce as a black man ( mentioned at 11:40 ).
I cant wait for the upcoming content! More power to you, and God bless 🙏🏽
Thank you! Congrats on graduating HS 👏🏾. I will still be dropping that video too. Stay tuned
Congrats bro glad to see you thriving brother
Yoooo CJ! It’s good to see you man. Thank you brotha 🙏🏾
Hey bro, just dropped in to say sky money sent me and I just subscribed. I can’t wait to see more of your content!
Welcome bro! Glad to have you here ✊🏾💯
I definitely resonate with maneuvering as a Black man in corporate. I had to leave a job due to feeling stagnant in a role.
It’s bound to happen, glad you noticed it and left the job. It’s sad that it takes leaving the job in order to grow
@CoreyMJones3 I know right. It all worked out in the end and I moved on to a bigger company and better job.
I love your edition
we def want that video on Accenture and corporate glass ceilings
I give you lots of credit for all the jobs that you have had in your life good man. ❤❤
My timeline is similar! I’m from Toronto and I work in corporate and went from 20/hr to 80+/hr I also made a similar video😎🩵 thanks for posting
That’s dope! Thanks for sharing
Ppl don’t understand it’s not just skill it’s culture and how you fit with the atmosphere of the company. And obviously you have a strong personality
Good vid….you’re right, coming out of college you gotta be humble and start somewhere and learn how to build your skillset along with showing your employer your willing to work, learn and grow….we all have to slave to get to that freedom…..i still remember my first gig outta school back in 2006..$36k…bruh, i thought i was rich, and was happy as a mug..😂😭…
I work as a contract engineer now making much more but i never forget what it took to get here…awesome messge man👍…
I hear ya for sure. Starting out at 36k in 2006 wasn’t bad at all! But facts definitely can’t forget where you come from, keeps you humble and appreciative of any opportunity to grow
Yeah Corey make the corporate America video. I’m interested in it and your experience
Honestly, I hate to say it, sometimes, it's pure luck, right place right time or you just hit it off with the right team. I sought all of those companies at one point and landed as a corporate recruiter for a large company in Chicago, I think I'll stay put for now. Thanks for the transparency and good to see other experiences from other recruiters.
That’s facts. Timing is a huge part of it too!
Great video bro! Very encouraging and very timely. Love the energy and the transparency. We should always strive to be a better version of ourself. And please make the video of being in corporate america as an African American man. 🤘🏾😊
🙏🏾💯
Thanks brotha 🤘🏾
Wonderful video Corey, I'd love to hear about your experience in the corporate sector as a Black man!
Might dive deeper into it 💯
Bro you seem like a cool ass guy for real!
Thanks for sharing
I saw the vision dawg. Anything to get you out of SC!
Yessiirrr! 🙏🏾✊🏾
Man the same thing happened to me, I got a leadership role at a young age making $21 and I did it for a little over a year. But it definitely took time before people starting taking me seriously hell, it took a while for me to take me serious. But I learned a lot from it and definitely don’t regret it.
Facts. It gives you some thick skin fr fr
@@CoreyMJones3 Big facts kinda helped with my character development
Hey there - saw you on skyy vlog, fellow creator in the travel space. Small world , interestingly enough I was CP as well. it was years back but ended up working for Disney until about 2008 when I was on a couple contracts on DCL. Loved disney still go there yearly, nice to meet you friend. Great video 🤛
That's dope! Thank you for dropping in
I needed this video Corey is always on point ❤
Bro this is real wild I feel like I’m going through this rn. African American trying to move up in the healthcare space in terms of management. I legit just wrote down 13 jobs I’ve been denied from in less than 4-5 months which may not seem like a lot but that really had me on some “is it me?” But I just pray and stay down about getting my foot in the door till someone feel what I can really provide for their company but it’s hard out here fr
It’s definitely hard. Keep at it man!
We all knew you were making that bread at Google! 😂 Nah seriously, thank you for your transparency. It is always inspiring to hear your story!
We all do a Google. They pay us well!
0:03 That little wall space between those two doors…I feel like you should get a 3-D “CJ” logo made big enough to take up a good amount of space there. Every time I see the logo go up I’m like “hummm that looks nice there”
Good idea, might add one there or in my office 👏🏾
I too graduated college and my first job was in retail making minimum wage (which at the time in Georgia was $6.25). Now I make a great salary also working at Google. I like to tell people that although we are strangers, many of us lived through similiar experiences.
Exactly! Glad you can attest to the experience. Where you start, doesn’t determine where you’ll be. Especially if you believe in yourself and see more for your future. Glad you’re a fellow Googler! What office?
@@CoreyMJones3 I work at the Clarksville, TN data center. I get around to other offices since I travel frequently.
Thank you open honest 😊❤
You’re welcome
Thank for the transparency! Corporate America is a separate world itself and filled with too many games, if you ask me. I would love to hear your experience about what you went through. It’s rough for black women and men. Don’t have too many bad experiences, but I came across a few. One thing for sure I REFUSE to play the game or kiss somebody’s peach 🍑 (😂) because I know my worth and value! It’s all about trusting God along with trusting the process and not to mention timing! 🙌🏽 Proud of your success story. Are you still considering going back to get your master’s? If so, is higher education still an option? 🤔
Big facts! At this time I’m not thinking about going back to get my masters. But we shall see
Needed this just graduated with mba in may 2024 I’m looking to get into finance, job search is brutal rn
Yes He (God) was putting you in position wasn’t He🔥🙏🏽💃💃 I love your humble beginnings and you though you appear to look like you have ALWAYS been at 100k you actually CLIMBED up!!! God saw ALL of your efforts. You did good Corey! But God ain’t done with you. I pray that your next wife will be everything you desire. You deserve it🎉
I appreciate that! Your comments always hit 🙏🏾. Thank you so much
It ain't easy. Had to go back for my masters. I'll finish and start corporate soon so i get starting somewhere. My only fear is not finding a passion to move forward in.
I definitely understand that!
Great video! Subscribed mic drop 🎤
Welcome! 👏🏾💯
Thank you for this video.... I'm in hospitality at the moment. Managing a hotel. I said I was done with hotels too, and went to Deloitte also! But I got to travel and inspect hotels and do brand audits. Came back to the hotel, instant promotion... then I moved to the Dallas area and I'm the Assistant GM at a hotel. Money is okay... but I really want my wife to finish school and focus just on that and something six-figures for me would make that happen for us. But, I'm not sure where to go from here after I graduate. I just want more for my soon to be growing family! You are inspiring me!!
That’s dope! What made you leave Deloitte?
@@CoreyMJones3 I was on a plane or in a car five days a week, it was too much at the time.
@hookedonhustle5103 yeahhh that makes sense. Traveling that much can be tiring
