After having found a comfortable sitting position concentrate on your outbreath. Give all "the outer world" with its stress and strain in the outbreath so that it can fall apart from you. The more you can let go the outer world the more you can dive in deeper inner realms. After a while just watch the slow natural flow of your breath and feel how this takes you in peace. Still for me using mantras means the royal road. But this needs guidance and initiations. (I am a meditation teacher.)
