What a lovely youtube channel, Summer seems like a distant memory but the scenery around the canal network is beautiful. Just making my way through your vlogs & enjoying them very much, Thank you.
Really enjoyed this video Andrew. My neck of the woods. I did my nurse training at Halifax, not far from Salterhebble, & I used to go to the cinema in Hebden Bridge when I was a child. I love your enthusiasm & you can tell you're enjoying your new way of life. Good for you, brilliant!
I had a fabulous time today & really enjoyed chatting & being on your boat. Thank you. I only took 227 photos! LOL. So I haven't had chance to look at them yet but I'm sure I will have some good 1s. I will enjoy editing them. I haven't had chance to watch all your videos yet, but I will. I have subscribed, & I will put your link on my facebook when I upload them. I also put a comment on your main page discussion? I'm not too familiar with youtube though. Keep in touch :-)
@@janewalton7140 Wow! 227 photos! I had an amazing day - but I'm pretty knackered now! Didn't get to New Mills so moored at the top lock in Marple. Thank you for your lovely comments and for subscribing. I will keep in touch, and you can pm me by clicking 'About' and send message. Take care and enjoy the editing
Yeah, I bet you are knackered. I can appreciate it is hard work! But worth it, such a fabulous lifestyle you have now. Ahh, right, OK, I didn't know about the messaging, thanks. Yeah, I get a bit carried away with my camera, but I love photos. It keeps me occupied & is fun, as you know, enjoying photography yourself. I will let you get settled, & catch up soon
Hi Andrew, I hope you have had a good day. I have uploaded a few of my photos onto facebook, & put your youtube link on. I can't find how to message you though? There is no link to send message on my 'about' page?
I live in Sowerby Bridge, I have every photo from day one of the deepest lock in the UK to day opened. I worked the Shire Cruiser boats with my Dad in '73/4 when I was 13.
@@markholroyde9412 funnily enough we're on our way back to there at the moment. 5 years since being in that neck of the woods. Looking forward to getting back, gorgeous area.
Only just caught up with your vlog, I hope you have the basic equipment by now, BWB key, handcuff key, long and short windlass, Calder and Hebble hand spike etc.
Episode 2. A little gem. Can’t wait for further episodes over the summer. When winter comes I look forward to the graphic snowfall on the credits. Best. CT
in one of your trips you mentioned hitting a motor bike did you know that in a lot of canals are being helped by magnet men manchester birmingham leicester and many other places these guys do it for pleasure and are helping clear the canals the rubish like motor bikes shopping trollys and other items are taken away by scrap mem it would be nice to hear baegees saying somthing about these guys doing a great job for the canals
Good shout Philip. I was aware of people magnet fishing, and I've even done it myself a few times, but I hadn't really considered the amount of scrap these guys pull from the canals. It is certainly worth a mention in a vlog, thanks
Hello Andrew just found you while looking for Rochdale canal content. I,m currently building a narrowboat to retire on to. See you on the water hopefully sometime soon. Really enjoyed you very natural from the heart style keep them coming. Regards Stuart
Hi Stuart, that's quite an undertaking. When do you think you'll have her finished? I only did the Rochdale from Sowerby Bridge to just above Hebden Bridge as it was my first days aboard, but hope to revisit next summer. Good luck and thanks for watching
Tales From The Swan's Neck Andrew. I would hope to be afloat by next spring 🤞 i,m building from scratch so plenty to do. Ive done it before and content with a short boat this time around. I liked your brutal honesty about your inexperience. Well done
@@tribsat100 wow, still think that's a task and a half. I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to find a boatyard to install a stove. If you can recommend anyone I'd be grateful
Tales From The Swan's Neck Hello again , I would have thought the chandlers that you buy the stove from would have a list of prospective stove fitters. Either way a decent boatyard/ builders will have fitted hundreds I would think. It also depends where you are when you buy it of course as it will need to be someone local to you at the time. Best use the towpath telegraph 😁
Hi Debs, yeah it's a quirky gem of a place isn't it. One of my favourite canal towns so far and easily accessible from Manchester and Leeds. And thanks for subscribing
Suggest the first chandlers you find you get keys needed, several types. Some for water points. Or lifting bridges or anti-vandal keys on some lock gates or private 2 or 3 day crt casual moorings behind secured fencing ( good example Leicester ).
Great, thinking of going that way ourselves, currently in skipton, had a bit of difficulty hearing you sometimes, could you raise the volume a bit.well done.
Just found you vlogs, great stuff, the stretch from Sowerby Bridge to Calder and Hebble was derelict when i was a boy, the basin at Calder and Hebble and a short arm towards Halifax was as far as you could navigate. At least it's a wide canal but not past Sowerby bridge the deep lock had to be built along with the Tunnel because they had filled in the canal and built a supermarket car park on it
It's amazing how the canal network has changed over the years. Of course there are still areas of deprivation and dereliction, but thankfully they are few and far between now. I am hugely appreciative of what a fabulous place our canals are.
Hi Rosie, well my advice would be DON'T HESITATE! Hebden Bridge is wonderful - as I'm sure you are aware. It may be tricky finding a permanent mooring there though, and of course it is prone to flooding. Anything you want to know just ask.
Dont forget the mandatory bib and brace overalls, pink hair, and to be "offended" on behalf of other people.....after the Sun goes down....and thats just the Women , fruitbat central with a fake persona, thank me later🤣
What a great down to earth, honest channel. A complete joy to watch. New sub here.

You're welcome. Yes it is a distant memory but the canal scenery is still beautiful - even in this week's gloomy light

What's the garnish in your drink, it looks like rosemary but?
Yep, rosemary, with pink grapefruit, can't beat it in a gin and tonic!
