    Carmy gave Sydney his "bleeding heart" dish instead of the fennel like the Joels character wanted ..after he found out his brother passed. little did they know...

      Yeah, Sydney doesn't have a fennel allergy. She made/ate something with Fennel in an earlier episode. He was just rebelling against Joel.

    Carmy did say back in EP1 or 2, "Back when we did things at the French Laundry" Ritchie cut him off with " Welllll, go fuck your French Laundry!" So yup, it was stated he worked thrre but easy to miss.

    The “keep the spoon, chef” comment was definitely a nice right of passage for a cook. It shows that your chef believes in you and is trying to help you in some way by giving you the tools/knowledge to get better. Exactly like the knife comment you made in the video.

    Random Lady is Cicero's wife Carol, played by Maura Kidwell. She is only mentioned by name in S1E4:DOGS when Cicero is shouting for help from the kids opening presents.
    Lee Lane (Odenkirk) is Donna's on-again/off-again boyfriend.

    Just a few things to help clear up some questions you had and also generally discuss the show so far:
    - Carmy meant that he left Sydney alone for the whole development phase of the restaurant, not just the friends and family night.
    - I think Carmy came back to the beef because he always wanted to open a better restaurant with Mikey because they bonded through food so when Mikey left it to him he felt a duty to trying to make it better out of guilt from being away.
    - Yes, most of us don't care for Claire, because of her lack of character depth and how she's very much a manic pixie dream girl who felt wedged into the show out of nowhere in season 2 as a device to distract Carmy. I feel like she's written specifically to be a representation of the idea of what Carmy thinks he wants, happiness without dealing with his trauma, rather than what he actually needs, to sit in his feelings in a way that healthily aligns with his goals.
    - The Syd and Carmy being platonic leads for the sake of them being platonic leads feels like such a poor reason for them to be only that. There are so many instances where seeds of them eventually being romantic are planted, notably Carmy only calming down from his panic attack in season 1 after thinking of Syd when thinking of Claire doesn't work. He also just definitely has more chemistry with Sydney and his scenes with Claire are just usually so...Boring? And I think it is intentional. Maybe I just love Ayo Edebiri as an actress and can't help but adore everything the people's princess does but I'd personally prefer to see a dark skin black female lead actually be represented as a realistic yet charismatic main love interest in a mainstream show than "platonic soulmates". That's a much rarer dynamic than the latter.

    You sharing that you see yourself in Carmy and even straight up saying “I am Carmy” made a lot more sense. Up until then was confused as to why there was more tone policing for Sydney than there was for Carmy. I feel like when we see ourselves in others we also have more compassion for them. It’s easier to just explain or laugh it off. Like that scene with Carmy and Richie arguing. Even though they were being rude, sarcastic, passive aggressive and snarky towards each other, while putting Sydney in the middle of it, it’s just laughed off. To be fair though I believe that was their intention, for the scene to be comedic.

    • @LifeofaQuinn
      @LifeofaQuinn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      those scenes were really comedic but also i do feel bad for sydney being caught in the middle. i dont think its fair she has to manage them like this and its so much stress added to her plate having to take over like this

    Hi Danielle! Love your passion in your reactions. If it helps, I think the full Carmy CV goes, culinary school in Paris, staging in French Laundry under Thomas Keller (real chef & resto), Ever under Chef Andrea Terry (fictional chef but real resto), staging at Noma under Rene Redzepi (real chef & resto), Fishes, then working in New York at Daniel under Daniel Boulud, “hear the music” chef (real chef and resto, then I think Empire under Joel Mchale’s character, which I think initially was meant to look like 11 Madison Park.

      @LifeofaQuinn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes thank you for this. the Daniel one took me a while to catch and not until i was editing (which sucks bc i kept conflating it with the french laundry). will now solely be referring to him as the "hear the music" chef 🥹 but ohhh did not know Ever was a real restaurant

    I think most of us don't like Claire because she doesn't have any character depth aside from being a nice ER Resident. She's a dream girl for Carmy so he can run away from his problems and stop growing. Everyone's just saying she's great without giving us a hint of who she is. Her dynamics with other characters feel so awkward when she's supposed to have known them for years. She has no needs or wants of her own. It just makes her flat compared to the other characters they've created. Claire is more like a device for Carmy rather than her own character.

    • @stsamurai_
      @stsamurai_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree - but that’s sort of the point of her character. She’s supposed to be a simple and a very easy written character because she represents Carmy’s stubbornness and obstinance towards being happy and slowing down his life/pursuit of achieving what he set out to do as a kid: start a resturant and become a world famous chef. In this chase he’s been in, he’s gotten so deep involved that he literally can’t remember the last time he felt at ease or content with what he was doing when he can’t cook, which is shown THROUGH Claire to be way easier than he thinks if he just slows down his mind a bit. In this season, by the end he’s also seeing through Chef Terry that he shouldn’t wait so long to give other parts of life a chance like she did, and also through his old mentor that such greatness in this cooking world apparently means being broken and bitter inside, which isn’t necessarily what he wants anymore. His traumatic past and childhood make him throw himself into his work and never look back at that sort of life because he thinks it could never give him joy.

      @@stsamurai_ But Claire isn't the only character that serves a purpose in Carmy's story. She's the only one we really don't know and that has no hint of a backbone. I wish this season, after their break up, we would have gotten to see who she is outside of him.

    Ppl dont like Claire bc they cant fathom what a good person is. They are either not good ppl or haven't dated any. Claire has struggles but this story isn't about her

    • @Keesha_Hardy
      @Keesha_Hardy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean the only struggle we see of hers is her being hurt over Carmy & that’s the issue many have with her character. I still feel indifferent overall towards her, & we have to be real here, she has no independent character arc. If her & Carmy never get back together, we really won’t see her character on the show anymore.
      Also, outside of Carmy saying that their relationship was a waste of time, he NEVER blamed Claire for anything, and yet, according to Tiffany, Claire made it seem as if Carmy blamed her for things going wrong. Another thing, even if she was hurt by what he said, us knowing that she proclaimed to love him, but then simply leaving after hearing only a piece of his self-loathing rant & making it all about her, doesn’t sound like someone particularly good. Especially when it’s Sydney out of everyone who stays behind to talk to him once he gets out of the fridge, and not Claire.
