You could say I'm a little late to the party but I completely agree. Salarians have been my favourite race since my experiences with Kirrahe in ME1 and ME3. There is even a mention of him from Mordin in ME2 which was pretty cool!

This might be the best speech given by a tertiary npc in video game history. Games are plagued with overacting, but this was legit a greatly delivered speech.
"Our influence stopped the rachni, but before that we held the line. Our influence stopped the krogan, but before that we held the line. Our influence WILL stop Saren and in the battle today, we WILL HOLD THE LINE!" Wow those chills.
From this scene till the end of the game the first Mass Effect becomes one of the best videogames of all time, The Virmire-Ilos-Citadel missions are so well done.
This speech really drives home that for all the heroes and legends out there, the ones who mattered most were the unsung everymen/women/etc on the front lines. They might not have been insanely skilled operatives, or ace pilots, or exposed to mythical powers, or otherwise singular forces of nature. But when it mattered most, and they were the only ones available, they chose to risk their lives -- even willingly give them up -- because someone needed to step up and give the galaxy a fighting chance. They were the ones who, as Kirrahe himself said, held the line.
That was one of the most defining moments in Mass Effect history, and I am really pleased to say that it's also one of my top favorite speeches in any form of entertainment (i.e. movies, TV, books, VG, etc.)
It's been years since I played them but I still rember this speech. So well written and well delivered. It's actually moving and makes me want to do all I can to ensure their success. He clearly cares deeply about protecting the innocent and that which is bigger than himself.
You need to help out his team by doing 4 things in order: 1- Screw up thier communication triangulation thing 2- shoot down some sort of dish thing 3-Go to the refueling station and destroy the sentry bots 4-When prompted about the alarm you need to disable it only and not trigger the alarm near the salarian teams If done in this order he will stay alive =)

Yes, only third objective necessary to save captain, otherwise squad member who joins him will radio captain fell. Coming back for previous objectives will not change failure of inaction into success like doing a paragon action will not get rid of renegade points.
I think people should never get Thane killed during The suicide mission for 2 reasons 1. he is awsome 2. kirahe dies protecting the slarian counsler if Thane is not there

This speach still gives me chills. I gave this speech to some of my soldiers when I deployed to Afghanistan before we touched down in country almost 9 years ago. It was totally out of context, made no sense, and left everyone generally confused but I found out 2 of the new guys were Mass Effect fans so it was worth it lol
This definitely surprised me way back in '07. BioWare is obviously known for getting phenomenal voice work for their games, but this speech here the writing, not to mention the delivery and the gravitas in his voice- its just fantastic.

Actually, just blowing up the bots and their fuel tank is enough to save him.
