I was dumbfounded when the 552 dumbbells were secured by the little plastic ridges and the straps, rather then be tightened down by screws. It feels fine, but I like the reassurance of having good old screws and washers giving a nice feel.

Yeah, it's unbelievable.. I just finished putting mine together and removed the pads from one base before realizing they needed to be on there... now the buckle hits my hand when picking them up... I hate it lol

@Matt I must have learned to ignore it man lol… I just went downstairs to grab them and was like “I’ll be damned. My hands are hitting those buckles every time and I don’t even notice” 😜

I am so glad that I am not the only one having trouble putting this thing together, lol. I'm pretty useless when it comes to putting things together by myself anyway.

I think they’re messing with us. Making them different to instal. Instructions are ass. They were telling me to use the short screw on one side at the bottom, and then use the long screw for the other side. Which doesn’t work since it physically cannot go past the small screw. So for the people that encounter the same issue, use the small screws for the legs, and use the long ones for attaching the plates to the frame. I also bought the knockoff Walmart dumbells. $99/piece. They look and function the same as the bow flexes. I just had to drill new holes in the metal plates in order to screw the bottom of the dumbbell holder. I also used longer wood screws that I had in the garage instead of using the ones that come with that little rubber piece on them. Hope this helps someone.

I spent the past 20 minutes screaming at the wall like "What do I do? Return it?" Only to look at the paper instructions and find out the video is completely wrong.

Just bought the 552 dumbbells and the stand for them. Was scratching my head with the instructions for the base install and realized the only time you use the bolts and base piece is for the 560. The straps are the only that that hold the 552 and 1090 so I would make sure those plates that hold these are securely fastened since this holds then entire weight of them.

Am I missing something? Do the 1090 dumbell plates only get a strap to hold 90lb weight base in place? I would much rather be able to secure the bases to the supports then use the straps to secure the weights to the base.... suggestions?

Oh, wow. So my 552 set with stand is really just a pair of 552s with a gerry-rigged 560 stand. That’s disappointing.

These instructions do not match the stand I received. Very misleading Bowflex. Not impressed and the user manual sent was absolutely confusing poor quality and garbage. Poor execution on this.

I am finishing building the stand for the 552 dumbbells. It would have been better if there where some screws to attach the bases to the stand as in the 560 model. The strands don’t seem secure enough to keep the dumbbells and base in place.

These fit the 1090 dumbbells very poorly. The buckle does not center under the dumbbell over the base so it mashes into your knuckles when you go to unrack the weight. Brutal for $230 CAD.

The straps these come with are garbage and the bolt pattern don’t line up for the 552s. I bought two 175 lbs strength 36.5” cable ties (zip ties) and they worked perfect! Threw away the cheesy straps they came with.

And here I am two days later, still struggling. If my freaking hands weren't so small, maybe I would have an easier time

Jeff is right the user manual is as useless as tits on a bull’s ass. The video was fairly ok to follow but I am EXTREMELY pissed right now because it’s incredibly hard to put those screws all the way through and tighten them and you DID NOT MENTION the side with the three holes needed to face the inside in order to attach the media rack so I ended up putting the trays on backwards and now I have to go over this exercise again!!! Also it’s easier to put the feet on first before you attach the crossbar and you probably should have put the trays on first as well so you can see the holes without having to flip this thing on it’s back. I get that you are doing this in the order of the screws but I feel you kinda get screwed in the end. Just my suggestions

DONT DO STEP 3 FOR 552 OR 1090 VERSION OF DUMBBELL. GO TO STEP 4

The screws have been updated and aren’t the same as the video. FYI. I just used this as a guide, along with the horrible instructions it came with.

I checked this video after building it, just to make sure I didn’t screw anything up…and the video was pretty much right…don’t know how you can screw up a stand though. Mine didn’t have the manual either …just saying
