This is exactly what I did, I should make a video about it too... I keep telling everyone that money is FREEDOM and the less bills you have to pay, the more freedom you have. Trying to pay a $5000/m mortgage will keep you as a slave to your job.

I heard an idea similar to yours. Think of purchases in terms of work hours. IPhone 10 isn't $900, it is x amount of weeks of work. I find that thought helps me lower my expenses.

    • @Aura000

Conservative Prosecutor True, I guess this is more of a specific situation that applies more towards being a slave to your job to pay giant bills that are unnecessary vs choosing to live frugally instead so you need to work less, and not stay at home moms. Everyone’s situation is a different story.

Also for people who just not happy with their current job (those people only) and thinking about retiring because of that. My advise is that you should try getting a job / career that you like(try a few jobs, if you have to) you may end end with a good one. The job market is really good now!! Not every job is bad, a lot people love their job and enjoy going to work every single day. For instance, their jobs may involve helping other people, saving life, or improving the society.

One last thought, when putting your expense together, should think about or include the expense of your future family (girlfriend, kids and spouse) as well. It will easily double or triple your future expense (I know because I have a family, for instance health insurance is around $600 for a family), it is not that easy to double / triple your income in a month or year to cover those family expense. So don’t jump the gun too quick, think it through first.

@@BeatTheBush well, that is the thing. I'm not really afraid of plunging into something new right now. Although I'm 40 now, I'm still in good health, decent savings, not at your level though. The engineering jobs pay well, but after so many years at a desk job, writing reports, running models, checking numbers, messing with spreadsheets etc... you kind of want something different. I find myself think back to the days before college when I was working for my Dad or brother at their restaurants. I remember that I hated it though .

I'm currently managing to save about £500 a month with spending money left over and after bills. But I'm now renting a smaller office for £100 a month hopefully as opposed to my current office for £180. I remember going from a £260 office down to the £180 office at my current office building and it was such a huge difference. Not having to fork out that extra £80 a month was such a good feeling

It's all about making passive income instead of working hourly. I would rather make $x a day doing nothing than spending time working on an hourly rate. I agree, recurring costs can quickly add up, biggest for me is phone data. Currently, I still work freelance coding a few hours a day, but I also have a small residual passive income and my goal is to move towards building more passive solutions.

I thought freelance writers have a body of work that are moneymakers for them. Articles that publishers pay to feature but the writers always own it. Like seasonal articles, self-help or research articles which information rarely changes. I think this is a decent way to increase money, you already have the work done when the magazine asks for it.

Best way to get a large variety of whole plant based foods: spices. Cheapest place to buy spices (buy bulk): ebay, webrestaurantstore, ifsbulk, random websites on google, alibaba (don't buy powdered spices here high risk for faked spices)

Interesting that you mentioned that you aren't involved in real estate. The easiest way to make passive income so you can retire early is to rent out your spare rooms. In California a room can bring in $1000-$2000 per month. I knew a technician from Livermore Labs that got laid off. He used his severance money as down payment for a home, rented out all 4 bedrooms, then lived in half of his garage. The rent was more than enough to cover mortgage, and to travel or go back to school full time.

The whole TH-cam business is interesting. Some people get very low subscribers and never get beyond a few hundred. Some get thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands in a very short time. Even if the same value is given, the TH-cam algorithm seems very inconsistent. I subscribed to this young woman who gives “new age” advice. She has gone from zero to 172,000 subscribers in six months. Others that give more practical advice such as yours seem to grow a bit slower but usually end up with similar amount of subscribers.

Making a sponsored video is a one-off income, but it also brings you a tiny bit of ad revenue forever, so in the end, it is kind of passive as well. On my blog, I sometimes accept guest sponsored posts, which make me earn a couple hundred euros AND a bit more of ad revenue while not having to write an article :D

If you are keeping your travel local, you can use a bicycle and save the expenses associated with a car. Fuel, insurance, tax, maintainence etc. Or at least use a car less if it's impractical to loose the car completely. Boosts your health & fitness too and it's free to ride a bike. Buying a cheap used bike will pay for itself within a few weeks. You can upgrade later if it works out for you.

Wage slavery , if you walk around and just observe people on their jobs regardless of what they get paid they’re completely miserable. If anyone is interested I recommend reading How I found Freedom in a unfree world by Harry Browne. This book by far is one of the best book I’ve read about breaking away from the norms, if your thinking of quitting your 9 to 5 it’s best to have clarity and take inventory or introspection of your life first before leaving the work force, this book will give you some ideas on how you must psychologically prepare, and why most people will never achieve freedom.

And more importantly, get a Girl/Boy friend first before quitting your job, because it is a very lonely process, you will have a lot of time, you know what to do at those free time with her, and it is free....

I think alot of times contract stuff can be way better than hourly pay if you are really good at your job. Owning your own bussness is definatly the way to go. If I worked at a car wash I would get paid minimum wage but if I opened my own car wash and charge 10 dollars per car and get 5 cars done in an hour I would make 50 bucks an hour. Also if you lift hay bails you get 50 cents per hay bail and if you are fast enough you can get paid 50 or 60 bucks an hour.

I don't make a lot as is each year I have been working part-time and trying to move into a full-time. If we want to follow in your footsteps invest and buy real estate for businesses? I saw one couple who bought a warehouse area and just renovated to have 7 units or so to rent out. I'm really lost on what business I'd want to start, maybe buy into a chain of businesses and run them? Say as an a fast food or some service, or take over existing ones?

  • @harrychu650

One would have to refrain from dating, travel and never have children. The individual would have to live like an elderly person on a fixed income. The gamble is that after a certain age, an individual won't be able to get employed. So you are risking your prime years which you will never get back.
