Technically we still do, if most boards end On Baronne, Chaos Ruler, Apollousa, Access code, etc. Hell, even the Maxx mini game is technically a Combo. You need Called by or Designator just to keep it live.

It is still a massively powerful card today, probably more than ever before. I actually main it in a number of decks along with Jinzo like in the video. Watching your opponents face crumble when they realise you have locked out both spells and traps is priceless. The only other way to beat it is to also drop Vanity's Ruler at the same time. Now they cannot special summon and 99% of decks simply cannot play around it. I have to say I was beyond disgusted when I found out the new Horus cards had NOTHING to do with Black Flame even though some of them look similar with their armour.

I will never forget my first Tryout Duel, the Playground game with GX, 5Ds or Zexal "structure" "decks". It was Utopia vs Utopia, I managed to OTK my opponent but they used a Trap Card that reflects double of the battle damage they took. I was at 8K Life, took 8K+ damage because I punched for around 4K, almost 5k. The first Draw I ever had and I couldn't even save the match because I had no space at that time.

@Talguy21 that Exodia deck, I'd this is the YCS I believe it is, is not running much in the way of ancient jank. The core of the deck is the 2019 Infernoble deck, and it's later support, the Neo Spacian support from the last 5 years, the 2014 starter deck Pendulum era Summoner series, and Exodia. Also Selene, a broken link released in a set with a half dozen other war criminals.

Staples never stop being Staples. Unless they get an errata that forces them to be played differently(if it's even still possible). And less popular(now) cards are great for throwing people off their game.

The best part about 2003 decks is that every card in your deck is a one card combo. Because you won't be playing another card anyways.
