Great job today by Sakkari. She's supposed to win this matchup, given her ranking and experience, so it's nice to see her get the job done today. So many are expecting Gauff to be the next Hingis/Seles/Austin and win a slam at age 16, but it's not going to happen. She needs more time to develop, and lucky for her, she's going to have the resources to help her do so.
It's just one tournament.. Easy to say after a loss. As physical as the game is today, it's amazing what Gauff is accomplishing at 16. There's no way Hingis, Seles, Austin could compete at 16 if the game were as physical as it is today. It's just not gonna happen. Coco is still developing (her forehand looks different every time I see her- longer today and racquet gets too far behind body). But she and her camp need to not put so much expectations and pressure on her. Just work hard, stay hungry and focused, and the results will take care of itself.

God only knows how big the Cori Gauff hype train is going to get at USO, having said that she hasn't done much with all the hype surrounding her. Maybe IF she does well at USO with a weaker draw, the media will be going crazy with their praises, I guess they forgot about Seles and Hingis the real teen talents!
As you say she needs a week draw, her level is reflected by his current ranking, around 50, she was defeated by Brady that is #40 and by Sakkari #21(both in very convincing way) so I think most top 40 players are better than her for now. The hype has been crazy honestly because the attention she receives from media exceeds what most(maybe all) top players have, just think about Kenin, she won AO and has almost no attention, this is crazy

Not to take anything away from Seles, Hingis, or any others but womens tennis isnt what it was then. In "post Williams" WTA, the game is a lot faster. 9 of the top 10 highest paid female athletes were tennis players last year. Every country is sending all the big strong girls they can, Russia in particular. Parents are handing daughters raquets younger and younger each day. The top 10 has been a revolving door since Serena got older with the exception of Halep. Aside from Naomi nobody has even put together back to back slams recently. Nobody in womens tennis has been able to beat everybody regularly since Serena in her prime so why would people expect that from a 16yo in todays game.
What about Andreescu beating top 10 players last year every time until the USO? That’s real talent, If she is physically ok she is the queen, she is miles ahead from Coco

She is 20 years old and turned pro at 17 years old so im not sure what that has to do with a 16 year old who turned pro at 14 years old. Either way Coco has accomplished more at 15 and 16 compared to Adreescu at 15 and 16 just by virtue of competing at a pro level. Like you said Andreescu struggles with injuries and even did in Juniors and i dont see that improving. Maybe if she drops a little weight but thats just my opinion. Shes like millions of people out there with great potential in a given discipline but never achieve greatness for any given number of reasons.

Women mature faster than men and a 16 - 20 might already be at the top of physical potential, obviously experience and other aspects keep improving but my point is that is not 100% sure that the level of coco will keep going up a lot, it might or might not happen, personally I see Coco’s potential as a 90% Venus Williams.

I think Thiem is a fairly good comparison actually. What really makes both Dominic and Maria so good is their exceptional fitness. They're both SO quick, and so fit. The power really comes from being physically strong.

I did as the highlights included a lot of winning shots and points by Sakkari. I had forgotten how much fun it is watching her play well. It was the commentators who over hyped Gauff.

I loved Seles, she manhandled Steffi and won 9 major as a teen. Unfortunately her career was cut short with the stabbing.

Easier to see the way the players use the court geometry to construct their points. I want both, court level and over head.

Coco is a good player but she’s way overrated at this stage. It’s gonna be another two years more before she possibly starts winning consistently. The press keeps pumping her up because she’s bringing people to watch tennis that would never normally watch it. But she has a ways to go.
