    My parents also told me to do what I love, and the rest would follow. It's brought me nothing but happiness, excitement and joy. Best advice ever!

      Sounds easy and probably is for a lot of guys, but for someone like me figuring out what I love to do has been so difficult. I'm the kind of guy who likes all sorts of things and subjects but I've had never felt passion for anything, long story short everything seems pointless to me :(

      PAPS 666
      Paps, has there ever been a time when you've been lost in the moment when you were doing something you really enjoyed or liked? When time passes without you noticing and you're just in the flow? If you have, that might be an indication of something you could bring more of into your life. If not, and if everything seems pointless, it sounds like you could use a shake up in your life. If you're spiritually adrift, sometimes you need to change things, be it your routine, your state of mind, or even your location. Being of service and helping people can also help shake up that feeling of pointlessness. Many masters say that the best way to help yourself is to help someone else. Other masters say, change yourself to change the world, so you can come at it from either angle (or both at once is my favorite). It also really helps to talk to people, be they friends or professionals. Life isn't pointless though, I promise. We are here to learn, to laugh, to love, to create and to play. Have fun with whatever it is your doing, and don't take life too seriously or be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the things you like and keep searching for something you love. If you feel joy, in anything (that doesn't harm anyone else) Do more of that!!!! Even if it seems silly. My hula hoop has brought me more fun, friends, travel, adventure, personal growth and spirtual connection than anything else in my life. Maybe pick up the most random interesting hobby you can find and try it. Basejumping, ultimate frisbee, fire spinning, whatever piques your interest! You never know where it might take you.

    • @Freedomheart888

      I'm unfamiliar with the term "jelly hater". The thing is, YoshiKant, is that it's a lil frightening to those who don't understand and have been accustomed to a particular belief system. It's just so new to many. But through the spreading of, and tending to, the seeds, more and more will continue to catch on to the beautiful truth of our abilities. Tend to the seeds with love. Thank you Jason Silva.

    My Mum turned to me sitting in the back seat of the car, as I sat there sulking at 10 years old and arms crossed and she said, "you're coming with us whether you like it or not, so you may as well enjoy it". I am on this journey called life whether I like it or not so I may as well enjoy it.

  • @patromo

    I find Jason's "shots of awe" to have a musical effect. Similar to Alan Watts, one can listen to the melodies, tempos, and resolutions of his words in a way that allows one's mind to decouple thought from the symbols one uses to abbreviate ideas. In this formless space, one has freedom to purposely shift paradigms and permit the recombination of thoughts and symbols. Instead of listening to the specific words, one may ride the flow and for brief moments admire the view and gain a new perspective from atop the wave.

    Do what you love? Really? Do what makes you happy? The sad fact is that most people have no clue what makes them happy in the long term. But how do you find that in our modern culture of "live fast, die young?" and instant gratification, our "throw away" culture.
    Be kind to others is closer to a good answer... Because ultimately we are all monkeys and do what we see, and if everyone is in tune with everyone else, we'll all be much happier.

    Interesting that Jason can quote the ideas of others all day long, but in the part of this interview where he starts to talk about what might just possibly be his own 'idea' [ 0:49 ] (which is actually a prototypical statement of reason), he can barely form the words in his mouth. Then he quickly turns back to quoting (poorly) someone who was an original thinker on the topic...
    I can only suggest that Jason, and those who follow him, practice THINKING. It will lead you to having ideas which, though they might not be original, will be your best possible contribution to the world -- not just memorizing quotes from others in order to make yourself look like you 'know' what you're talking about.

    It is no use to be guided by idvice "do, what you love to" so far as love is an emotion and it will not help to start and finish something fundamental. There are lots of similar advices on the web (ascribed to Jobs and Jackie Chan) but I find them as an atempt to impose childish mentality and skimming instead of really doing something good. Kant was more profound on this matter but our age is no longer capable to read real texts.

  • @fullyawakened

    Silva should consider his own advice. He says that you should beware of people that irrefutably accept ideas without any evidence (agreed). However, he is one of the biggest proponents of science fiction fables like "The Singularity", universal consciousness, etc. There isn't a shred of evidence that any of that is going to happen, but he seems as convinced of the coming singularity as many Christians do of the second coming of Jesus. Not saying it won't happen either (I'm facinated by the prospect myself), but if we are talking about integrity here he should be hedging his bets to say the least and not so confident that all his new-age ramblings are going to come to fruition simply because he thinks it is manifest destiny.

    • @RiderWR450
      @RiderWR450 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He is preaching a hypothesis, not as fact but possibility, and his mind is open to a day where we can transcend into that singularity that you speak of. He never says it will happen, but by saying that it wont (like onsaphi) halts any type of progression forward whether in technology or enlightenment. GOD is a hypothesis, one I do not believe in personally but one that could maybe (unlikely) be a truth. I will not agree to any hypothesis until irrefutable truth and fact are presented. All Silva is doing is presenting hypothesis's

    • @RiderWR450
      @RiderWR450 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      onsaphi You'll need to define "chaos" because as a person of intelligence (and i do not mean that sarcastically) you realize it is all about perception. One's chaos might be another's tranquility. If all of our technology mimics God's brilliant designs why then aren't we born with the answers to our questions. Why are we not blessed with the knowledge of our world and the things around us but then have to seek these answers when there is a teacher (God) available to teach? What you are saying here is our advancement in technology is the will of God and not our organisms responding to our surroundings to best thrive in the present setting. Do we not make our own divinity and adjust our surroundings to best suit us even if the long term result is destructive to sustain life? Pretty brilliant design God has made if the creature he/she produced can and is destroying its habitat. Or are we just evolving and not needing the certain type of environment our ancestors had?

    • @RiderWR450
      @RiderWR450 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I definitely will, and you're absolutely correct it is all subjective judgement and perception. But is it a lack of consciousness or just a different one?

    • @ArrogantEgoist
      @ArrogantEgoist 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a *great amount* of evidence for the Law of Accelerating Returns (of which the Singularity is an implication). The evidence behind Moore's Law is part (but not all) of the evidence for the LAR. Ray Kurzweil discusses the evidence in his book *The Singularity is Near.* The evidence for the LAR may be far from conclusive, but that's different from claiming that "[t]here isn't a shred of evidence..." *That*, incidentally, is a claim without a shred of evidence.

I seriously believe he's a fool repeating foolish ideas unworthy of any real commendation. Let's reflect on the wisdom of those past, many worthy men has spoken more truly and more diligently, with conviction and with open minds to all possibilities even without "evidence" -- such as Einstein.

  • @DnekarAtkinsonVeriusz
    @DnekarAtkinsonVeriusz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I live by the first thing he says unconditionally. And I have agreed with him, Carl Sagan, bill Nye, Joseph Campbell, etc. Science is just studying something to understand it, we rely on science everyday, we rely on the understanding of physics and laws of gravity. All humans are curious and we want and need to understand things. I do believe religious texts, like the old and new testament, the Torah, the Al Quran, can be inspiring for changing people's perception of life, by being a guide in the telling of life and it's origins, that contribute their life, in their culture. But why not see it as a fantasy as how organized religion in the states sees foreign and past polytheistic religions such as Greek and Norse, as Mythology?

    That's more like rapidly losing interest in a salesman you find painfully smug and untrustworthy & going elsewhere instead.
    But that is not a very good analogy because the hardware of a car is a physical construct, while in the verbal sphere the medium really is the message. You cannot argue that there is a "message" behind Silva's chosen style delivery that can be looked at as separate from the words he is actually using.
    Also, a "message of optimism" better be quite well founded these days.

    Of course you can argue that. I don't know why you would need to, though: it's the difference between the style of a speech and its thesis. You yourself separated the two in your previous post by claiming one invalidated the other. Your previous post makes a lot more sense now, though. I thought you were agreeing that Silva's message was optimism over cynicism, and that the concept was invalidated because you don't trust the guy. That is not the case, though. My bad.

    I don't think that's what he means at all. What he's saying is that following your bliss requires a continual refinement of your beliefs and values. There is never one source for bliss, you just use your initial catalyst to propel you toward more.

    so his 2 pieces of advice are: 1. "Follow your bliss" (which sounds like 'do what thou wilt')
    and 2. Don't trust people of Faith. Hmmm... He sounds a bit like Aleister Crowley to me. Are you an occultist too, Jason?

    Had me a first about being kind and follow your bliss but then he changed energy to dislike of a certain group. Very strange to that he's speaking of good self energy along with focusing Bad energy onto others. That first part sound like follow your lust is ok as long as your nice to people.

    Is this what passes for wisdom these days? Wow. I like how he takes a shot at "dogma" (religion) right after proposing his own trite, nebulous expression of "be kind and do what you love and you can't go wrong".
    The only thing separating him from being accused of dogmatism is an actual following...but he's working on that :)

    What is the difference between "faith" and "bliss"? Why wouldn't one trust in faith as much as in bliss? Both are a temporal feeling toward an experience. In that, couldn't you use the two words synonymously?

      faith is just a complete trust and belief in something normally based on spiritual feelings or biases . Bliss is a state of complete happiness and joy while being oblivious to everything else. You can find faith blissful or be in a state of blissful faith but they are not the same.

      faith is involved with taking the next step, bliss could be the joy of moving! faith and trust can be used interchangably, right?

    I really enjoy watching Jason's video but I must disagree with the line that he says " People who claim to have absolute irrefutable faith in something" He sounds like an atheist._. what some humans fails to understand is that when we begin to base our lives on "logic"we lose our sanity! We become so anxious to discover mysteries that the human mind although broad can never understand. Life isn't about having the logic answers to everything! We need to take risks! life is about taking risks! we take risks every day! Life is about having faith that there is someone superior to us little humans and it is through that someone that we can achieve ultimate peace! Blessed are those who did not see and believe! John 20:29

      I don't think he was primarily focused on dissuading people from the intuition that there is a God. He was really more focused on the sense in which we limit ourselves and become myopic when we stop asking questions. It sounded like he enjoyed and appreciated Carl Sagan's sentiments.

    if you looked further into what he says it make more sense than believing in a god being dead until you die and everything is answered in the after life is not even plausible, if so many people weren't so narrow minded take the mind of the artist flourishing with idea, being able to put yourself in a flow state, passing the idea around. The ape the ate the mushrooms and drew on the wall is the same one that went to space and in turn collided so many years ago in the big bang that is us.
    Our brain took the idea and made purpose and created technology, which we put all of our data in an organized fashion. The state we are in now putting sensors in everything, creating eneties that have our thoughts it has happened with Hiroshi Ishiguro. The last step is to put that tech in ourselves, with which we will propel into a ecstasy state and flourish to our wildest dreams.
    Don't talk bad about it open you mind enter your child state of mind as Silva mentioned and see what happens.

    Just a reaction, no offense to anyone meant. We have our own truths. There is no question about following our desire and what we want to become happy. It’s our innate nature(soul) to be active and be happy. In fact, everyone does that, working so hard with the ultimate aim to be happy, plants and animals included. Yes, as long as we don’t hurt anyone and create trouble to the world, nobody will question that, in fact one is encouraged to do that. As long as we don’t fall for some hedonist’s advice “Do what you want and get what you want to enjoy and to hell with your neighbors.”, everything will be okay. About believing or not believing on something without evidence, surely, we need some sort of ‘evidence’ to believe in something, otherwise it is just blind faith.
    Science is replete with unverified “truths” which the biggest are the The Big Bang Theory and the Theory of Evolution. No sound and infallible evidence has been put forward yet. They just remain a theory or just hypothesis, yet, it is being taught in some universities and science communities as the truth. Same thing with theories of Singularity and universal mind/consciousness which Jason seems to believe even without an iota of evidence.
    Most scientists and existentialists believe that there is only one energy, and that is - matter. For them everything is made of matter. They denounce the idea of spiritual energy because they can’t see it. “To see is to believe” is there mantra. If you can’t see something therefore it doesn’t exist. But, we have sufficient evidence that even if we can’t see something, they still exist - the wind, air, electricity, synapse, atoms, sound, radio and micro waves etc. And, what about emotions, feelings, awareness, what is the material composition of these invisible realities? We ‘see’ them because of their symptoms.
    Evidence of God? The creation? A classic example is finding a watch in the middle of the forest. We are absolutely certain that someone designed and made it, even if we don’t see him, right? We wouldn’t believe that no one made it and it just appeared out of nowhere with its complexity in design, function and precision that precisely mimics the enormous and unfathomable complexity of the eternal passage of day and night. It is an infinite cycle that we always wonder who designed such a complex system? Every day we are confronted with similar wonders like the complex growth process, people being born from a combination of egg cells and sperm cells and growing into adulthood contradicting many built-in laws of the nature like 2nd law of thermodynamics; tiny seeds growing into massive trees; the complex organization of the immeasurable universe and its movements. Who is the architect to all of these? We see a lot of engineering and architectural wonders in our midst, and we all know they just don’t appear out of thin air, or these matters assemble themselves together, like Darwin said about how life was created.
    What is the material composition of awareness, consciousness, reasoning ability, inquisitiveness of a human being? Until now, scientists are baffled about the process of perception or seeing with the eyes. They found out that the eyes are just a portion of the whole mechanism called seeing, and that the eyes are just ‘windows’ and not really the one “seeing”. The brain is not even the final stop of the picture seen. It’s something else, somewhere else, who or what can it be, they can’t say. But it’s a reality that these matter-only scientists cannot see.
