    Love my Spirit! Mine is factory set for natural gas with quick disconnect hose. Use a wood chip box or foil pouch if you want smoky flavor. Low setting on all three burners gives 225 F for “low and slow” BBQ. High setting on all three Sears steaks easily. Highly recommend!

      Monument Grill is the new kid on the block that has excellent performance and many additional features at a better price. My older sister works at Lowe's and those have been very highly rated by their customers. Lots of grilling forums and grilling subreddits love the Monument Grills too. It punches way above it's weight class for its price. At $500 without any discounts the Monument Clearview Stainless Infrared Gas Grill has four burners, a side burner, and a side sear zone with ceramic infrared heating (usually found on higher end grills). Cooking area is large, it retains heat well, has a glass window to look at what you're cooking with the lid down, easy to clean, and it has led lights on the knobs if you cook in the dark often. It comes in many colors/finishes and replacement parts are affordable as well as readily available whenever you need to do maintenance on your gas grill.
      If you don't need all those features or a smaller grill you can go with their cheaper Mesa series. If you want a larger grill, one with more features, or a sturdier built one (I notcied that their cast iron grates are way thicker) then their more expensive Denali series would be the way to go.

    Weber Spirit e-210 is the 2 burner version at about $350.
    For smoking You can use a “V” shaped stainless steel smoker box which fits neatly between the flavorizer bars; available on line.

    I absolutely LOVE my Spirit. It’s so versatile. You can grill, slow cook and smoke on it. Grab a wood box and cold smoke. Great size for my wife and I. Plus Weber customer service is amazing.

    As someone who put those together for a living up until last year, I can tell you that the Webers are just not what they used to be as far as materials are concerned. The sturdiest and best ones I've seen are the Broil Kings, but it WAS really weird that the one you tested only put the heat out like it did on the toast. I have one and it's much more evenly distributed than that, so I'm wondering if maybe you are having a burner issue with it? Especially on the left side.

      InstrucTube I have a BK Soverign XL 90 and I noticed the sides are hotter for some reason. Especially the back corners while the front of the grill is cooler. I still love it, but it can be annoying.

      Came here to say this. Weber has fallen to the same predatory vulture capitalism that is affecting and destroying many companies. It works like this.
      1) The company builds a brand that becomes synonymous with quality all around.
      2) They sell their products at high price that is justified by the quality. People are happy to pay more because they are getting more.
      3) They maintain that status until the brand reputation is built, established and ingrained in the minds of happy consumers.
      4) A vulture capitalist entity, BDT Capital Partners LLC in the case of Weber, buys controlling stake in the company.
      5) The vulture capitalists cut everything that created quality such as higher grade materials, stringent QC, high standard production facilities, etc.
      6) The vulture capitalists continue selling at the high same price knowing consumers still think they are buying the same good old reliable product as always, not some cheap crap look-a-like substitute.
      7) The vulture capitalists generate increased profits due to the same revenue generated by the high prices and lower expenses reduced by cutting quality.
      8) Some years pass and consumers begin to say, "hey, what is going on??? My dad bought a Weber and aside from a few routine replacement parts, he still has it 20 years later. I bought this 4 years ago and it's falling apart as if it was any old run of the mill cheap BBQ."
      9) As more and more products that people purchased at a high price expecting quality in return start to fail well before expected, the previous reputation starts to very slightly decline. Although, 90% of Weber BBQs in peoples homes are still the older quality products, so the reputation for quality persists.
      10) The majority of Weber owners, those who purchased a well built product before the quality was cut, are still telling friends and family, "you have to get a Weber, these things are fantastic" or "look at mine. I've had that for 15 years and it's still working great" or "Trust me, there is no other option for quality like a Weber". All of these statements, ones that used to be true, are given as advice with completely well intentions, not knowing the product they bought and own is nothing like what's currently in stores.
      11) Trusting the honest advice of friends and family members, people decide the extra cash is worth it for that fantastic Weber quality, people go out and become the proud owners of a shiny new Weber BBQ. Especially since who wants to buy a new BBQ every couple of years and start the whole process of researching brands, learning the difference in models, comparing prices, reading reviews, looking for sales, etc, when they can just spend a bit more, get something everyone knows is great, and not worry about buying another BBQ for another decade or two.
      12) Time goes on and more and more of the new cheap Weber BBQs fail to even come close to meeting expectations. First time Weber owners go "I don't know what the hell all the hype around these Weber BBQs was all about. I paid hundreds more for this Weber than I did for my previous (insert other halfway decent brand here) and that one was just as good. I'm never paying more and going with Weber again". Owner's of previous Weber BBQs loyal to the brand have it worse since they know first hand the quality that used to exist. The type of quality that built a brand so respected, forums and discussion boards on what BBQ to buy would often just consist of one comment saying "if you want quality, get a Weber." followed by a slew of comments saying "Absolutely", "+1", "^This", "Agree", "There's no other option", "Facts". In both cases, these previous Weber owners swear off the brand.
      13) Now, as most of the final quality Webers reach the end of their long but still finite life spans and are replaced by something new, the new cheap Weber BBQs are all that is left and the reputation of Weber finally starts to reflect the quality of the current products.
      14) Consumers, now fully aware of the slashed and burned quality, won't touch a Weber at their higher price. So the vulture capitalists cut price in order to compete and ships off the cheap products to any store that will have them.
      15) Having fully eviscerated all the value, the vulture capitalist abandons the bones they've picked clean of the once great brand and departs to find their next meal.
      16) And finally, we are all left with a number of Summers of poorly cooked burgers and steaks (after all, it's not like we can afford to just go out and buy another new BBQ after dropping a significant amount of dollars on that disappointing Weber, regardless of how disappointing it is), lighter wallets, and the added bonus of hundreds of jobs lost as the once made in American brand is now made in China.

    I love the Americas test kitchen and Cooks country shows on pbs and your TH-cam videos but the best grill is actually a griddle. I have a blackstone 36. About 6 years old. Keep up the great work on tv and TH-cam.

    Weber wins every year in the $500 class. I wish I had one but I already own a Weber Kettle Pro for charcoal. I do miss the convenience of propane though. Webers are like the original VW Beetles, good build quality and plenty of replacement parts, they just sort of live forever as long as you take reasonable care of them.

    Wish they still made the behemoth Ducane gas grills. Owned 2 of them. One 10 year old Ducane was damaged so replaced with same which lasted 25 years. So sad when we hauled it off.

      I’d recommend the Weber Spirit linked in the description. It’s got 3 burners and you’d always use at least 2 even when cooking for 2 people. Use the 2 outside burners for cooking slow with indirect heat and your meat in the middle. Or use 2 adjacent burners for searing and direct heat for steaks, salmon, burgers. And on occasion when you have guests you can use the entire cooking space with all 3 burners. I’ve got the larger Weber Summit with 4 burners plus a side burner and I wouldn’t go any smaller even though it’s just 2 of us now.

      I just got the Weber Spirit E250, it's a two-burner grill and it's good for two people.. and a dog. Nice and compact but very sturdy.

      Unless you just don’t have the space for this size grill, it’s the one to get. It’s perfect for 2 people. Just because it has 3 burners doesn’t mean you have to light all 3 each time you cook.

      It’s more cost efficient to buy the Weber in the long run. It will last a long time. Sure, you’ll have to replace some parts every few years, especially the “flavorizer bars”, but as long as you keep it cleaned and maintained, it will easily last 15-20 years or longer. My first grill was a Charbroil that I got for a wedding gift in 2007. It lasted about 4 years before the firebox started to rust out. I bought my Weber after that and the firebox looks like new(when it’s thoroughly cleaned), and I use it often when I don’t want to fuss with the kettle and charcoal.

    I live near the coast and the humidity and salt destroy gas grills eats the steel right up maybe get 2 Year of service before the demise of rust sets in .Stainless steel or maybe cast aluminium?

      I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, much of it near the coast, so I feel your pain. The worst offender for rust for me has always been the grates. I use the aluminum grates from grillgrate.com and will install them in every grill I buy.

      @@corystansbury fair assessment but it assumes too much and nearly all of their other videos point out runner-ups. show me the next best grill under $500. some people have strict budgets. if people wanted to split hairs, the video description says "Adam and Julia discuss the best OPTIONS for gas grills under $500". the weber sneaks in for just $1 less (although the amazon link they posted shows it as a steal at $449. i've had webers. i now have a broil king which has 10,000 more btu's then their weber pic with many of the same features. same price point and works every bit as well.

      @@stooge81 For inexpensive best grill - Pickup a used Weber. I have a Q300 I got for $20. A little elbow grease and it is great and still works like new. I also picked up a 12 year old Genesis for $20 - Same thing. The old side mounted burners are even better for smoking as the heat goes from front burner to back of indirect cooking

    I'm a Weber fan, but disagree that cast iron grates are always better. Stainless steel is not bad. Grill marks are mostly just aesthetic and you actually get a more even browning without cast iron. Look up the cold grates technique which is becoming more popular. Cast iron can also rust more easily. I have both cast iron and stainless steel grates.

      The convenience of natural gas. Huffing those propane tanks around sucks and you can run out in the middle of grilling.

      It depends on what your are looking for in your grilling experience. I have found that propane burns hotter than natural gas. I like to sear the surface of the meat then move it to indirect heat and cook it to the internal temperature I want. I have two propane tanks, if I ever run out of gas shame on me.

    For the low and slow, did they maintain 300F grill temp? If so, it doesn’t make sense that one grill would take twice as long to cook.

      Was indirect heat. With some griils, the heat goes up and out, without heating the rest of the grill

      I believe they used the stock thermometer. Those are usually crap. Even on my Weber kettle grill it's off by about 60°.

      Chewfacity you are probably right. And on low, the variance might be even greater since ambient temp changes from wind or rain may impact the internal thermostat reading even more.

    We are shopping for gas grills but don't seem to know where to put out wet chips in a steel box? Can anyone help? Without the space for chips, gas grilling is just grilling with gas.

      You set it on top of the grill. Many just use a disposable aluminum tray and put it on top of the grill pushed to the side. Look up TH-cam videos of how to smoke with gas grill. They will show you.

      You don't need to wet them. You'll just create steam before you create smoke.

    I think I will stick with my 2010 Twin Eagles 30" grill which replaced a 30 year old Wait BroilMaster. Even the latter exceeded your price ceiling way back then but the value is excellent overall when viewed annually. The Twin is like new other than replacing about 1/2 of the ceramic blocks.

      The Real Joey B you right. I’m looking at it, the Ironwood, and the Camp Chef Woodwind. I like the technology of the Traegers, but I like the versatility of the Camp Chef... I do a lot of steaks and it would be convenient not to have to fire up the Weber just to sear.

    If you like your meat any shade of rare don't buy this. The primary grill surface is 424 sq/in with 30,000 BTU's. The math works out to 70.75 BTU/sq Inch. It will NEVER caramelized the outside of the meat before overcooking the inside on a 1 inch thick steak (I prefer rib-eye thank you very much). This has been the bane of my existence trying to buy a new grill. I finally gave up grilling steaks in favor of doing it on the stove in a blazing hot skillet. Perfect every time. I did a whole bunch of research a few years ago and even the most expensive grill on the market, that advertised high BTU's was just BS because those BTU's were spread out over a massive primary grill, thus the BTU's per sq/in were just as bad as this one. My next grill I am going back to charcoal with an adjustable level split coal grate so I can actually cook my rare steaks on the grill. I just don't see any other option if I don't want to eat shoe leather.

    Not to offend anyone but I prefer the other lady who does the reviews.
    The blue-apron man seems like he’s only talking to the red-apron lady and not addressing us (the audience)
    It also seems dumbed down

    Sounds a tad bias... wink wink.. I taste a little kick back flavor in this review.. (nice way to not mention any good parts of any other grills.. NO way I'll buy this scam.

      Really? Really?! That's what you took from this? This was an incredibly well run in depth test. Find me any other review on TH-cam that goes into this level of actual measured testing? Some people are so cynical and think everyone is trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

    This looks about as outdoor as the Cosby house garden. And the grills didn't look like they had ever cooked meat.

    Sadly, Adam didn't address one IMPORTANT issue: SAFETY. Many gas grills can extinguish the flame if the lid is closed improperly (or properly), causing a potential fire hazard. WHY DIDN"T YOU COVER THIS, ADAM!!!

    BS. Cast iron is one of the worst for retaining heat. That is why it is so good as a brake rotor for your car. It cools quickly. As far as cooking materials goes it's copper, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum. BTW, I just switched from a cast to a SS grill and the SS performs better.

      You are incorrect. Cast iron retains heat extremely well, due to it being a much poorer heat conductor than aluminium or copper. Good heat conductor = quick to heat up, quick to cool down, bad heat conductor = slow to heat, slow to cool down. Both cast iron and stainless steel are in the second group.

      @@julianvickers Cast iron needs to be extra thick in order to retain heat. It is it's sheer thickness that makes it suitable for cooking with. Pound for pound it is inferior to other metals. I have a carbon steel pan that outperforms the cast iron tremendously. I can put 4 scrambled eggs in each pan and carbon steel outshines the cast. Both pans will cool way down but the carbon steel pan is finished sooner. Cast iron needs to be extra thick.
