  • In Part 2 of this series, we finish taking a look at some of the more "high" security American style restraints that can be used to illegally detain someone.

    I was a police officer in the US for 20 years. 99.9999% of cops do not look at lock placement when handcuffing someone. Watch videos of arrests when they are being made. The correct way to cuff someone is with the hands behind the back, palms facing outward and the key hole UP. Hardly ever done this way in reality. The handcuffs with the chain links have a vulnerability you didn't demonstrate. You and easily kink the two links against each other, apply an amazingly small amount of force and break the chain. I've done it in demos with S&W, Bianchi, Peerless, whatever. If you're being restrained, don't act like a threat, be submissive. Lure your captive into a false sense of safety. Then, when you can...work your magic, whatever it is.

      @Emmanuel Goldstein he's at least helping us. Not all cops are bad. They're just doing a job and many do it respectfully and with good intent.

      *captor
      The captive is the person who's captured or confined, the captor is the person that catches or confines them.

      as a former bad guy i can tell everyone my experiences, one lesson i was taught by a professional when i was 15 years old was this: life is much easier if and when you get caught (and you will eventually get caught) is to just not resist. the cuffs will not be as tight, they are less likely to beat you up and use resisting as the excuse to beat your ass, or fleeing as a reason to kill you or even worse than death is to be crippled severely or paralyzed. and you can always get freedom later and you can use your prison time to plan your next crime.
      i quit being a bad guy over 20 years ago. and now im just a simple family man!
      and much respect to those who follow the laws when the laws are NOT designed to say EVERYONE IS A CRIMINAL!

    My go-to handcuffs are the English Hiatt Standard Hinge Handcuffs. They are hinged to reduce movement and have tighter tolerances than the ASP handcuffs. The keyhole is off to the side like the S&W handcuffs instead of being in the middle and the keyhole is only on one side of the handcuffs, not like the ASP handcuffs. It has a double lock on the side like the Peerless handcuffs. They are also much easier to carry than rigid handcuffs. In my opinion, all of the best features are combined in this handcuff. I have used them for years and love them.

    Just wanted to say thanks to you S2. I’ve intermittently watched several of your older videos, but recently seeing your updates on the fronts of this brewing war in Ukraine hooked me as a subscriber. I like your no-nonsense way of presentation and speaking. Keep it up 🤙

    You doublelock the cuffs to protect the detainee's wrists so the cuffs don't tighten down during transport, where they may be basically sitting on the cuffs partially behind their back. Similar with belly chains and leg cuffs, if you don't double lock and put them on right it will cause pain so you need to have the leg cuffs especially done right for a plane trip or long transport in a vehicle.

    The only time I've ever seen a black box used was on a convicted serial killer. Most Patrol cops in the USA don't know what it is. The rigid cuffs are extremely hard to get out of even if you have a key. I've seen them used and Police training in the UK at the time was to cuff with 1 hand up the other down. The average bad guy would want to spend the money on the rigid cuffs.
    If someone were to take me and used a set of rigid handcuffs or blue box on me, I'd know for sure they are professionals. The laws in the rest of the world are very different from the USA. You can’t legally own a set of hand cuffs in most of the world.
    I don't think it will be long before many States like California or Washington will follow Massachusetts and make it a for police only item . In Oregon you can't carry a ASP or other batons.

      Fun fact: the black/blue box was actually invented by an inmate. And I've had them used on me in county jail for court transport. So he's right, they're pretty commonplace.

    • @flopus7
      @flopus7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Used them for transport. Only time I've seen the box used. Chain cuffs are hilariously unsecur. Seen small dudes with no expertise beyond petty drug crimes slip them given 12 hours and nothing to do

    Excellent video and series. I just wanted to remark though that I'm not sure it's true that an average bad guy would miss double locking with the blue box more often than a corrections officer would. The officer does it all day and had more occasion to let things slip. For the small time amateur, it would be a special occasion and he'd tend to do things by the instruction manual. Still, the weakness is worth knowing.

    Since blue boxes are commonly used in corrections, every shithead who has been in jail knows about them. So everybody should know about them... Long story short, if a criminal approaches you with cuffs, its on like donky kong. Don't allow your self to be restrained or transported.

    Looking at all of this, even the SW100, double locked, up, palms out... It seems unlikely anyone could reasonably escape in a timeframe and situation when arrested.
    That cop watching you has plenty of time to intervene. Or if you are in the back of a patrol car, where eould you even go if you managed to get them off... You cant open patrol car doors from the back.

    I got dragged here by the algorithm.
    Both the ASP hinged, and the TCH 840 are vulnerable to straight edge picking.
    As are most of the modern day handcuffs, including the fancy YUIL and Kyoung chang.
    The best EDC right now is a parker pen.

    Not sure what brand those hinged cuffs are. I have some Hyatt hinged cuffs, and the tolerances on them are much tighter than Smith & Wessons and a couple other sets I got. I think it just depends on who made them. Those Hyatts are almost impossible to shimm.
    *edit- Well not you've just made the same point. You just busted out the Hyatt pic.

    When double locked does the shim technique still work?

    • @EYELEVELAwakening
      @EYELEVELAwakening 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i would say no....if you watch part 1 he showed you had to actually tighten them a click to fully embed the shim....the double lock prevents them from tightening

  • @BriceFernandes
    @BriceFernandes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The rigid cuffs are still in use in the UK because officers are actually trained on how to use them properly and ensure the restrained person doesn’t come to harm. Look at duration of police training between US and UK to understand the difference.

    is the bluebox plastic? that could be melted by a lighter if it isn't fire retardant, and even if, it will melt to allow you to remove a good part of it and access the first weak spot of the cuffs

      The one shown in the video is very thick and it's made of a thermosetting resin, it doesn't "melt" no matter how much heat you apply. It only chars and eventually flakes off but it's going to take a while

    You keep saying low likelihood but it's common knowledge to bad guys. The low likelihood is them getting caught. Just like the average serial killers IQ being 89, it's the bar of getting caught not a statement of criminality of those with low IQ.

    Another escape trick is breaking a zip ties full polymer zips will snap easily if done right(Google how) proper zip cuffs have a metal tap that is possible for stronger people to break from the front of you but considerably harder behind. Biggest take away work on personal flexibly. If you can loop your hands from back to front around your legs you will have much better chances of success. And buy a cheap set and practice shimming with them from behind your back. Which is also where you should hide your shims etc. Also the old Boot lace end cuff key is a nice discrete key hiding location.
