- Looking at my current schedule I think it's going to be very difficult to finish the arrange before next year, so I'm going to go ahead and release this. I was hoping to finish up Unlimit instead to complete the "older than time McKnuckle song" trilogy (Petrol in my Veins and Lightgazer being the other two), but that's going to have to wait. This song ain't bad anyway.
This is another hyper diaper old song written for a game that never ended up getting used anywhere, and the project file for it refuses to load up. Good thing I had an old MIDI render of it, so I rebuilt it from the that instead. It uses a ton of weirdo articulations for the leads that my normal libraries don't like so instead of rewriting it completely to play nice with my normal lead I decided to use RealLPC instead. I haven't used this thing since Dream Express, and man, it sounds way better than I remember. I remember this lead being tinny and weird sounding but that's not the case at all, it's got some oomph to it. Shreddage for rhythm guitar too, so it's all stuff I don't normally use anymore.

OOOooff that's one of your primes I must say! One of the best intros ever, and the battery is killing it all throughout! I love the embellishing notes, and the shredding guitar solos, and the themes and melodies... They also come together nicely despite having different things to say. This is 11/10. Dare I say, it overshadows your other original pieces... hehe... I know you know where this is going, but speaking of shadows... Would it be an amazing new year resolution to cover shadow of the beast series?

Hello McKnuckle! I know you were worried that I went silent for a while, but don't worry I'm still alive. Somehow. Are you all right as well? Things are going smoothly? The fuss has ceded, the dust has settled? Is it the time? eh? For something new, something fresh, like brand new Shadow of the Beast soundtrack remaster? I feel like it is!
I've been "gone" for basically as long as you, so I wasn't that worried. If I upload a new video and you don't comment, that's when I'll start having trouble sleeping.
Things are going smoothly... with my house. I basically go to work, work all day, get home, eat dinner, work on the house, then sleep. Gonna start with the interior and all the deferred maintenance on all our machines and vehicles come winter. I'll still make time for the end of the year no matter what I have to do, so there will 100% be another upload or two before 2023, but of late my "barely any free time" has basically turned into "no free time". I'm having fun though.

I know how a house can keep you occupied, but just wait until you have a child. I now have a 2 year old boy, and its very different. Free time is... scarcer than ever, and whenever free time shows up it somehow is gone faster. Like a physics paradox, time gets heavier and slower when it's empty, and flies by when it's full of things to do.
May your time always be as heavy as you can carry without too much effort.

Really hope you release a video on how you eq rhythm guitars or add legato to the synth leads. By the way, do you use guitar rig?
I've answered this in a previous video somewhere, I'll go find it. As for the synth legato, it's either by plugin or by manually programming pitch bends. In this song it's both, all the regular stuff is done using pitch bends and the crazy high-pitched octave-wide slides are done using Sytrus.
Welp, can't find the answer so I'll write it down again.
Rhythm guitar A sent to channel 1 on the mixer, guitar B sent to channel 2. These two channels have compression and EQ stuff on them to bring out the palm mutes, and are then forwarded as follows: Channel 1 -> Channel 3+4, each with their own amplifier, and Channel 2 -> Channel 5+6, also with one amp each. I like to offset the timing on the channels with the amplifier a bit to create a fake dual channel effect for fatter guitars. Forward 3+4 to channel 7 and 5+6 to channel 8, pan 7 to the left and 8 to the right. Then forward both those channels to channel 9 where I do final post processing for the rhythm guitars, usually stereo separation/imaging, some more compression and EQ, and then finally send all of that back to the master track. I do leads in a similar way.
Every song's different so the inserts generally have different stuff on them and I screw with EQ to make sure I'm not flooding the soundscape, but this is the general gist of what I do for every single song.
EDIT: Oh, and yes, I do use Guitar Rig. I have a bunch of different amps but Guitar Rig is my go-to.

What VSTs do you use to achieve such amazing sounding guitars?
Normally it's Prominy V-Metal for both lead and rhythm, but in this one it's RealLPC for the lead and Shreddage 2 for the rhythm. The only fancy VST I use for the mix is isotope ozone on the master channel.

EDIT: I'm being dumb, I'm confusing Steel of Destiny with The Justice Ray. Anyway, Justice Ray, and by extension Wirbelwind, wins by cheating.

Though, if Tsukumo ever remixes the final boss theme of Thunder Force III (forgot the name) it'd probably be that, assuming it's redone in his usual style.
Joseph Bailey (Qwesta) has a lot of music inspired by Thunder Force IV and V. Oh, and two Justice Ray variants because clearly 500 variants wasn't enough.
