Very clever, I have an old washer. While you were cutting the first circle I was saying to myself cut another circle that fits perfectly into the top of the mixer tub, screw both circles together, then the whole fixture is always centered. I will also copy your idea for the clamps holding the washer to the top of the mixer. I have many white decorative stones that my wife likes to use for landscaping but now they are dirty, mixed with soil and just waiting around filling up five gallon buckets.
Alternative method. 1) Build a shaker table. 2) Put ballast in a large bucket on shaker table. 3) Shake bucket. 4) Big stuff rises to the top; sand sinks to the bottom. Trowel off the gravel. 5) Repeat. Yes, it really does work. Agitation really does cause the large particles to rise and the small ones to sink. Counterintuitive, especially if the big particles are denser than the small ones, but that's what happens. Which one would be more energy-efficient or time-efficient is subject to experiment.

We learned about the way particles act back in school, basically the little ones fall through the gaps between the big ones, a bit like anything you accidentally drop into the bin and need to fish back out.
If you’ve got an old washer that still has an operating spin cycle it’d be easier to remove the top panels, cut a whole in the outer (solid) drum on one side , then lay it on that side and use it under its own power by loading and selecting spin Extending the concrete mixer will put a much higher load on its gears and the bearing at the rear end of the drum ( the thing that often fails on older mixers ) a bit like when 4x4 car bearings/axels fail when big wide wheels and spacers are fitted
If you put down a plastic tarp you might be able to sift it faster by using water... situate the tarp so you can collect the water and reuse it. I think it would cause the sand to leave the drum faster and recover more of it.
I tried (off-camera) to play a hose on it, and the last load of the bag I rinsed pretty well as I wanted to clean the drum out, but it comes out more as a sort of slurry than sand and might take a while to dry back out.
I used the sand for laying a few courses of bricks for the shed. The stones went as a gravel patch replacing a triangular weed patch between the path and the house. Not exactly slate chips but better than weeds and mud.

If ya do it again. Make yourself a propane blast torch out of 1” pipe and a .023 noses. Put a load in the cement mixer aim the blast torch inside and let her rip for about 15 minutes. Now you’ve got powder almost
cool idea but I agree make the hole bigger and cut some of that metal from.the front I feel.thst hole little too small..on second thought I drill.the hole leave some the same and go bigger

I got a mixer the same as yours, And I wand to sieve soil for seed mix. But as the mixer tub comes in half, would it work better to remove the outer part of the tub and join on there? Anywat - I like your work, great job
If you can be bothered to split the drum and faff with that rubber gasket that sits between the two as well then yes. It'd make it more stable (I had to use the bags of cement to stop mine toppling).
You're gonna need a bigger mixer :D To clean a swathe of beach I'd build something more akin to a giant mesh snowplough blade built on a vehicle trailer. It' sweep through the top layer of sand and drive anything sieved out to the end of the blade where it can be caught (changing the curve at the end of the blade would allow debris to ride up and into a mesh basket, where any trapped sand could still fall through).
@@AintBigAintClever Thank you for responding!! Your creation is the first thing I have seen that would work. (And I have been looking!) My beach is on a freshwater lake, and the prevailing wind deposits all sorts of trash and debris there. I showed my husband your video and he commented that it would take a long time, and countess shovel fulls to clean the beach, which gets bigger as the water level goes down. @@buckwildproductions7354 no worries. Sometimes the simple solutions are the best. My suggestion went from a massive rotating drum with a slot to scoop sand that would need to be lowered into the sand then raised back up, to a mesh paddle wheel, to a mesh corkscrew and finally just the mesh plough blade before I clicked "reply" :D Depending on what you're dealing with the mesh could just be a length of chainlink fence, at least to get the biggest stuff up. A strong frame would be important in any case, with the leading edge angled horizontally to glide through the sand instead of digging into it. Minimum resistance, let the mesh do the work.
@@AintBigAintClever I tried to post a picture but can't figure out how to do that, or if its even an option. We burn all the logs and limbs, and bag all the plastic bottles and such. What I want to remove is mostly leaves and tiny plant matter, some small rocks, and even glass shards that are unearthed or filter down from our property with the rains. We once cut a 4 x 4 foot piece of window screen and shoveled the "dirty" sand into that, then each held 2 corners of the screen and agitated it. It worked, but liked to have killed me to do a small section and was too slow. lol I think your idea of some sort of plough is the ticket! I do not want to shovel the beach every spring. Thank you!

Spin cycle would be a bit on the fast side.
