Itzhak Perlman ... no one tops him in expression, tone and tonality on anything he plays.

I just saw Perlman perform this live this evening. As someone who visited Auschwitz within the year, it was haunting in a way I cannot put into words…

That song... the violin cries, and your heart weeps along with it.

I had the privilege and honor to play on a violin that survived the camps a long time ago. I chose to play a few bits from Schindler's List and I have to say, hearing Itzhak play the same stanza that I was playing brings me chills. It definitely feels different as a piece of music, more so on a violin that you know survived such terror. I'm not Jewish, but even I as a human being -- a fellow violinist -- can feel touched by it both in sadness and in fear. Violins that survived that period, especially the camps, have so many stories to tell and you can hear it when even a single note is played on an open string.

How I missed this in 2018, nobody knows; indeed, no time like the present, to catch up. Love the love story - the love of music, the love of its making, the love of man and wife. A joy, and treasure. (p.s. and, MAISKY!!!!!!

Perlman goes beyond the capacity to hear or make music. When the noise comes forth from his violin, you know he just dove into the lake called rhythm.
