The first guest vocalist on Stay is Rosemary Butler, the second is David Lindley, longtime friend and collaborator with Jackson - he's also playing that slide, in addition to playing pretty much any stringed instrument. I got to see this performed just several days after this performance - it was time for the encore, and everyone expected something we'd all know and sing along to, when he launched into this. Once we started listening, the whole place was hooked...one of the greatest encores I've ever seen. Glad you're enjoying him - he's one of my all-time favorite artists. Judging from your reactions, you've got a lot more joy to come!
I used to work at the local Civic Center setting up and loading out some of the rock bands. This song was played some times during our load outs! Sure made time fly. Great memories!!!😊
Yep, Jackson Browne is one of my all -time favorites as well. I was privileged to seeJB and this band on the tour that supported this album. David Lindley is amazing. He NEVER played a song the same was twice. An absolutely brilliant musician. MY wife and I have seen Jackson multiple times over the years (last time in 2015)
I took my girlfriend (later my wife) to see this concert tour, the ‘Running On Empty’ tour, in Champaign, Illinois. She didn’t know Jackson Browne. After hearing THIS particular song, which praises the roadies and us, the crowd, she became a lifelong fan‼️ I’m proud to have turned her on to greatness! I named my son Jackson after him. (middle name Derek after Derek & the Dominos, Eric Clapton & Duane Allman!)… Yes, happy teardrops.
Jackson Browne is widely regarded as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. He continued to impress both his fans and critics with his poignant songwriting and undisputed knack for songcraft. His Masterpiece album "LATE FOR THE SKY' is considered so good that In 2020, the album was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry. Every song on that album is a jewel. A song by song (one at a time) tribute would be something to consider. It might take a while to play them one every few weeks, but it would be worth it. You should watch the live version of The Load Out/Stay.
By the way, the most of the band were members of “The Section” aka The Immediate Family. A group of studio musicians whose were very important to the sound of the 79s and still are active today. They played with people such as James Taylor, f course Jackson Browne, Carol King, Linda Ronstadt, and many, many more. There is currently a documentary about them on Prime that is a must-watch for anyone who loves music from that era
JB is still making wonderful music and touring.....never miss him when he comes to the UK. There is a great live version of this recorded by the BBC in London worth watching.
One of my favorite live albums of the 70s. Browne, Butler, and late great David Lindley...all great performers plus the rest of band obviously. Great album, fabulous song...
Great reaction! I love, love when a reactor comes across The Loadout/Stay for the first time because it never fails to blow them away. I grew up when Jackson Browne was at the forefront, and no disrespect whatsoever to today’s music, but we had such awesome music back then. You’ll love the video of the live version, it’s even better. Thanks again for the awesome reaction.
Jackson Browne, a TRUE musical artist. Had this album as a youngster and would play it over and over and over again. When the record needle hit the end of the album I'd just pick it up and requeue from the beginning again. This is etched into my brain.
First time I heard this was on my high school art teacher’s class as she played the album while we were doing some art assignment!I loved the whole great album and became a fan right away!
This entire album was recorded live in various locations...not only live on stage, but also in tour buses, hotel rooms, and backstage. A very non-traditional way to record a live album.
Selfless is the proper word when describing Jackson Browne. It is present all over his music. What a nice gift this song is to his roadies and fans alike. Purely Jackson. I am enjoying your Jackson Browne ride. Please check out "In the Shape of Heart" by him next.
Just would not have been the same, though, without David Lindley. RIP. David is the falsetto here, too. This has to be one of the top 10 best live performances or some such. Thanks.
😮😮WOW 😮😮😮 I didn't see that coming!!! 😮😮😮and I didn't think these songs would make you that Emotional! 😢😢😢😮😮😮WOW!!!🎉🎉🎉 ONE OF THE BEST REACTIONS EVER!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
It’s so nice to see that you “get it”. He loves his fans. I was at this show at Merriweather in Maryland. Hearing it always brings back that summer evening out in the grass, listening to this voice.
"The Load Out" is a Jackson Browne original, an ode to the "Roadies", who do the real hard work of touring. "Stay" is by Maurice Williams, and has been covered by quite a few folks. Had the real good luck to see Mr. Browne on each coast, once in Pennsylvania, and once in California, each show was amazing, and "The Load Out/Stay" was played at each concert. Chills.
Merriweather Post Pavilion is a "Shed", indoor/outdoor facility, got to see Steely Dan there, and is a really nice environment for a concert. I recommend seeing a show there if you can.
I agree, I have seen many concerts there, but it can be tough if you're on the lawn in bad weather. Such memories. Seen there: Jethro Tull, Yes, ABWH, Dan Fogelberg, Tull, Little Feat, probably more.
At the Steely Dan show, during the last song, "My Old School", the heavens just opened up, and we all got soaked. So I understand the bad weather bit.@@fordp69
Wow that's funny my allergies started acting up as well. What a really engaged reaction. And you have to understand, I first heard this in 7th grade and you know all the kinds of things kids can go through at that age, but this one really got to me. It really did. We got to hear it back to back like this on the radio but for me, I could only go get the 45 RPM single. So I play that whole first part about the loadout feeling all those emotions even though I've played in bands now for years and I know all about that stuff but as a kid I was only imagining it so it's strange, but it's still affected me emotionally even at that young age and then when it hit the end of it you would have to race over there and pick the needle up and flip it over and put it back down and plop the needle down at the top and let it roll and try not to scratch the record in a hurry. Just so you can have that kind of continuity between the two.
Inning On Empty is a true live album. Everything was recorded while JB and the band was on the road. Songs were recorded on stage, on the tour bus, in hotel rooms, backstage. This one is rarely listed on “best live albums ever” lists but belongs on those lists
there IS live footage and it IS awesome to see and hear. Love your reactions man. Keep at it. Takes time to grow. I hope you remain encouraged. Have a great day.
Shawn, you were definitely born in the wrong generation however it’s great that you’re finding this great music on this channel and it brings back great memories for me, THANK YOU; Just a great great song from a fantastic singer songwriter
I JustvDiscoveted A Lesser Known Jackson Browne Song which Also is A Very Rare Duet with A Little Known Mostly Backup Vocalist Valerie Carter. Oh I'm so bummed you didn't do the LIVE VERSION! But watching you really enjoy this music really means so much to me!!! I miss the 70's ❤ they were the best of times!!!!!!!
Great reaction to a great song.......now that you've mentioned it - you should do Rosie (a really good song) and see how long it takes you to catch on.
I have a suggestion for you to react to. It’s a song from The Rolling Stones from 1964 called “it’s all over now”. A friend of mine had a band who did a great cover of it in 1996. I was going through a divorce at the time so it had a lot of relevance for me. The song definitely used a lot from the time but being The Rolling Stones it also seemed a little ahead of its time. Great tune in my opinion!
The entire album was recorded on tour. There is even a backstage spoof recording years later of this with the drummer playing on boxes. It’s very funny: th-cam.com/video/tNCuwUSPias/w-d-xo.html . You should definitely watch the live performance.

Came here to say exactly that but you summed it up so well!

You need to watch the Live video... it's great! You'll get a kick out of the "Stay" part!!
Yes yes yes...a must see!
@@debbiethomasson2709 must see the video
David Lindley sang the second "stay" part, along with steel pedal guitar
Yes, this song still makes me smile from beginning to end, four and a half decades later.
His music was poetry in motion and excellence X's 10 , 1 of the greatest songwriters ever.
Although Stay is a cover, Browne is a great songwriter!
By the way, the most of the band were members of “The Section” aka The Immediate Family. A group of studio musicians whose were very important to the sound of the 79s and still are active today. Jackson Browne is a profoundly amazing artist and his song writing is the testimony of how great he is✌🏽
Watch him do it live! It is even more amazing.
JB is still making wonderful music and touring.....never miss him when he comes to the UK. There is a great live version of this recorded by the BBC in London worth watching.

Awesome reaction Shawn! Ya that song picks up my spirits every time. Definitely check out the video of it sometime it makes it even better.
The crazy thing is; the more times you hear this song, the more you'll like it!
Great reaction! I love, love when a reactor comes across The Loadout/Stay for the first time because it never fails to blow them away.

YOU GOTTA DO THE POPULAR CONCERT VIDEO OF THIS COMBO SHAWN!💯😊SOMETIME ANYWAY!
Love that he incorporated Stay, an older song. I saw Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs perform it in the late 60s in Myrtle Beach.
First time I heard this was on my high school art teacher’s class as she played the album while we were doing some art assignment!I loved the whole great album and became a fan right away!
You REALLY NEED to see the live version! It heightens the experience beyond belief! And I would love to see that reaction.
It's obvious Shawn that if we could transport you back to the 1970s you'd fit right in and feel right at home!
Agreed. Hope he’d be at my high school 😅
I an 63 and I grew up on this album and singing these songs with my friends. SO cool to hear someone else enjoy it for the first time.
I know I said the same thing, "only Jackson Brown. " Jackson Brown Made me cry on this song when I saw him in concert 2005....love him❤❤
My brother has been a tour driver (semi) for about 20 years. This song makes me think of him out on the road.
When I saw the title I had to watch right away - I knew you wold love this one!. Jackson Browne can sure paint a picture that anyone can relate to.
This entire album was recorded live; either during a concert, on the bus or in the hotel room.
So glad you appreciate what a talent he is -I’ve always loved him
Your face says it all; you are feeling those lyrics. Great reaction. Jackson Browne is my go-to when I need to be soothed. I call it "My emegency JB".
This entire album was recorded live in various locations...not only live on stage, but also in tour buses, hotel rooms, and backstage. A very non-traditional way to record a live album.
This is my favorite Jackson Brown song
You and me both love Jackson's music. His music speaks to my soul.
I was so blessed to grow up when music was great.
Your expressions were great - so glad you liked this so much! ♡
Jackson takes us on a journey!🎙🎶🤩How about those 2 vocal solos?😉Storytelling............... Musicianship.............Wonderment.............
This came out when i was twelve and it puts me back there pumping gas at our family's gas station. Loved this and "Running On Empty" 🙂
A BELOVED tune from my high school years. Absolute absolute classic classic....!!!! 😃
I've seen Jackson in concert 17 times and every time has been unique and glorious!
He's the Poet Laureate of my generation.
Selfless is the proper word when describing Jackson Browne. It is present all over his music. What a nice gift this song is to his roadies and fans alike. Purely Jackson. I am enjoying your Jackson Browne ride.

Excellent songs and in my music collection. They trimmed a part of the introduction to the song off this version.
I have known and loved this song my whole life and to see someone hear it for the first time and enjoy it this much is awesome.
This is a beautiful tune love it❤
Jackson Browne has so many great hits. Another good one of his is "Running on Empty". I would love to see you react on that one.

Great reaction! Terrific to see a younger generation so appreciate the music us old farts grew up with.
❤ Jackson Browne

❤❤❤
Jackson Browne is an ultimate songwriter an his vocals can't be beat. Try listening to The Four Seasons version of " Stay" for a nice treat.
Waiting for this one love you
If you haven't done it already I want to add my vote for "Lawyers in Love."
This song just makes me smile so much. Please check out the live concert version so you can see all of the magic. ❤
FANTASTIC reaction Shawn!
This entire album was recorded live along different shows while on tour.
Inning On Empty is a true live album. Everything was recorded while JB and the band was on the road. Songs were recorded on stage, on the tour bus, in hotel rooms, backstage. This one is rarely listed on “best live albums ever” lists but belongs on those lists
Completely agree with you!100%
there IS live footage and it IS awesome to see and hear. Love your reactions man. Keep at it. Takes time to grow. I hope you remain encouraged. Have a great day.
Kind of makes life worth living during this time.
Shawn, you were definitely born in the wrong generation however it’s great that you’re finding this great music on this channel and it brings back great memories for me, THANK YOU; Just a great great song from a fantastic singer songwriter
Sadly David Lindley passed away March 3 2023. Another great one gone.
He recorded this at Saratoga Springs NY in 1977._ I saw Jackson in1997, at the same amphitheatre,to celebrate the20th anniversary. Awesome show
It was recorded at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD.
I JustvDiscoveted A Lesser Known Jackson Browne Song which Also is A Very Rare Duet with A Little Known Mostly Backup Vocalist Valerie Carter. Best tribute song!!!
You might also want to check out the live version of this from the BBC in 1978. It really adds a lot to see it performed!
Oh, too bad you didn't do the live with the video as it's even more incredible!
This is my favorite Jackson Browne song, too, video or no. :)
Please give My Opening Farewell a listen. He was so wise at such a young age. Saw him many times, first time with Linda Ronstadt then Bonnie Raitt
I remember being about 12 listening to this, and dreaming of being on a stage begging to play just a little longer.
You should watch the live performance of this it is well worth it. Enjoy
Should have done a live version. Jackson plays this song at the of his shows.
Oh I'm so bummed you didn't do the LIVE VERSION!
But watching you really enjoy this music really means so much to me!!! I miss the 70's ❤ they were the best of times!!!!!!!
Coming in the future! Will do this one
Hey man, great reaction! Love Jackson Browne. I vote for “Before the Deluge” and “These Days” for your reactions.
You know it bro!
This whole album is great!!
This song is literally a musical buffet.
I have watched this video reaction 10 times.
Jaxkson is still my all time favorite make performer songwriter number two would be Rob Thomas . The sheer volume of ther genius is awe inspiring
Jackson Brown had ties to the Eagles. He co-wrote or wrote a few of their songs. Take it Easy, Already Gone, etc…
in the same vein is bob segar's "turn the page". it's about life on the road, but with a darker feel.
#Running On Empty is a MUST HAVE album in one's collection ... Its not 'fire' ... Its an🔥🔥inferno 🔥🔥!!!
Unique live album that features songs about touring experiences, mixed with live performances! Excellent seventies album!
Great reaction to a great song.......now that you've mentioned it - you should do Rosie (a really good song) and see how long it takes you to catch on.
Recommend the live video of this one.
Brilliant review
Great reaction 😊😊😊
Who was the tall gentleman playing the organ? He really was awesome. I saw the video prior to this reaction.❤
Proof positive that todays music just doesn't compare.
You really have to watch a live performance of this.
"The Storyteller"
If this doesn't put you on the tour bus, there's something wrong with you.
Love the shout-out to his crew.🤑
WHAT'S HAPPENING MAN, WHAT'S HAPPENINNNN!!!😊
React to the live performance of this pls 💚🎵🎶
Nice reaction, my only problem with this song is Jackson says/admits he only paid his roadies minimum wage which was $2.10 an hour in 1975.
The entire album was recorded on tour. There is even a backstage spoof recording years later of this with the drummer playing on boxes. It’s very funny: th-cam.com/video/tNCuwUSPias/w-d-xo.html . You should definitely watch the live performance.
There’s a video of this that’s amazing. Check it out.
where's the concert video?
The BBC video is great, even though Lindley kind of blows the lyrics a little.
Difficult to believe, isn't it?
