PhD Vlog - 12 hour Defense Prep Workday

- Here’s a short vlog of a long day spent working on dissertation defense prep!
My rapidly-approaching defense has me feeling nervous, excited, overwhelmed, and accomplished all at once, and I’m just trying to push through the final days as productively as possible so that I can end on a high note. Usually I make sure not to overwork myself and keep my evenings to myself, but at this point I'm just working whenever I have the motivation and putting work-life balance on hold.
Following my defense, I plan to make some retrospective videos talking back over the whole PhD process! So let me know: what questions do you have about dissertation prep, writing, or even my research?

Such a great glimpse into your preparation process! It's interesting and useful. And sharing your emotional states was informative and helps normalize the prep experience. I'm sure the video will help others going through similar prep work. I was also thinking that many of these techniques are transferable to other types of oral presentations, like job interviews.

Sustainable productivity! I am so inspired by your deep introspection on what works for you and what works for your body, finding routines that help you work effectively not just in the spur of the moment but in the long run. That's something i am continuously working on too😢
Hi Carson! New follower here and an planning to take an MA and PhD under a scholarship. I watched The Day After Tomorrow on Netflix the other day, and when they were burning books in the NY library to stay warm, one of the survivors stopped them from burning the Glutenberg Bible so that just in case the civilization ends right there, he'll get to keep a precious historic literary piece. And of course it reminded me of you 😅. Anyway, I continue to follow your journey. Rooting for you!

When you did your Master's degree, did you have to do a defense like you are going to do with your PnD? I wish you the best of luck in your PhD defense and I am sure that it will go well.
I did not! My program is a continuous MA - PhD, which meant that once I finished the requirements for the Master's degree I just had to internally reapply with a writing sample, statement of purpose, and some letters of recommendation.
