Cornell achieves the unusual vocal effect by repeatedly striking his throat with the side of his hand while changing pitch. It's not autotune or a studio effect.
Audioslave doesn't have a bad song at all. I wished they could've stayed together. The funk and rock mix was perfect... so much more ground they could've covered.
Best reaction I have seen to this song! You will never go wrong with any song with Chris Cornell on vocals. I love seeing people discover and appreciate this music. Happy New year! 💕
@@tylerhackner9731 AIC, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots were the only good bands to come out of a decade that produced nothing but crap. You must be a millennial.
I like when i can see the words!!! Makes it so much better! If you haven't done "I am the highway" you should. Also "call me a dog" would be refreshing.
Asia is right - not an effect or autotune or other digital mastering. Just a brilliant idea to flick the finger against the larynx at each pitch change to give a little hiccup sound.
Chris Cornell did change some of my life and i never knew he was in AudioSlave. Never turned back after. This song and Like a Stone is my favorite period. I play this to get me pumped up and let me know i gotta show myself how to live. Till then, its a releasing kinda song for me. Also homegirl not wrong, for you my love, Chris was doing the vocal stuff and I think he used his hand on his throat and tapped it to make that sound. Swear I saw that before. Hopefully that answers it. Maybe someone got a better answer
if you watch them do this song live, you'll see exactly how Chris did that with his voice at the end. also, the original video, it's a massive tribute to an old movie from the 70s called "Vanishing Point." it's a KILLER movie and one of the featured characters is a blind radio DJ, played by Cleavon Little (whom most folks know from Blazing Saddles), and the band got him to recreate his DJ character for their video. y'all should watch that video and it wouldn't hurt to watch the movie, maybe even first, so you'll get the references in the band's video.
It's a common misheard lyric and they got it wrong in video you were watching. The actual lyric is "Nail in my HEAD from my creator." Not "Nail in my HAND." The song is actually a perception of Frankenstein's monster, not a reference to Jesus. Also, as many people pointed out, his voice at the end is an actual sound he created, not a studio affect. One of the things Audioslave prided themselves on was that all their sound was made with their instruments and voices. They never used studio effects.
Not to nit-pick, but the lyric video actually got the word hands wrong. It's actually "Nail in my HEAD, from my creator." not hands, referring to Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein's monster.
Not only is Asia the most beautiful Gal on Utube reactions, but my main man BJ is a DALLAS FAN!! Right on my brother. Please do some more ACDC. Check out WHO MADE WHO!!
There is an old horror movie, "Night of the Gargoyles", where the king gargoyle uses that same voice effect...but the audio guy rubs his throat up and down vigorously w the knuckle of his index finger.
Love Audioslave. I am now a new subscriber. I love the song be yourself. People sometimes want you to be who they think you should be. Be yourself no matter what. ❤
Soft karate chops to the throat or taps to the chest and you get that amazing vocal effect. You might also need to be one of the best singers to ever grace this universe though.
Asia...if you tap yourself in the throat with the edge of your hand while holding a steady note, you can make the sound you heard at the end of this song. Remember, TAP...very lightly.
Asia and Bj, may I suggest some of Chris Cornell’s great solo stuff. Scream, Billie Jean, Imagine , Thank You. All accoustic and all covers except scream
There’s no one like Tom Morello on the guitar! Tim Comerford is an amazing bassist and Brad Wilk is an awesome drummer! What a band! When in heard they got together, I KNEW they’d be great!
BJ, you seem like one of the coolest dudes ever, if we were neighbors, every day I would be in front of your garage or you mine, and we’d be catching up, shooting the shit, playing golf on the weekends, etc. but Asia is so f-ing cute I can’t take my eyes off her during all your reactions,,,,,, I forgot my point but I think it’s best we’re not neighbors ( you don’t need anyone hitting on your woman nonstop)
Reaccionen a show me how to live en vivo in live aahi se ve el efecto o mejor, la tecnica que usa para el final es amazing so fkn amazing folks thanks for the reaction peace!
Have you guys done a deep dive of SOUNDGARDEN?? I mean a deep dive? Not the usual songs everyone has reacted to. Some of the other good SOUNDGARDEN songs. Like my favorite TIGHTER & TIGHTER. Chris's voice is sooooo.....well it does things to me😊 Or SUPERUNKNOWN, SLAVES & BULLDOZERS, SEARCHING WITH MY GOOD EYE CLOSED, BOOT CAMP & BIG DUMB SEX.
As Jack Black said. "Sometimes Chris Cornell would sing a note that was between two real notes and he would open a portal to another dimension."
Cornell achieves the unusual vocal effect by repeatedly striking his throat with the side of his hand while changing pitch. It's not autotune or a studio effect.
And she caught that!!! Wow.
Exactly! Correct. If you watch them do this live, you can watch Chris doing it live, it's so rad
"I Am the Highway", "Like A Stone", "Shadow On the Sun", "What You Are", "Out of Exile", "Be Yourself".... by Audioslave
Dang it guys everytime I hear him sing I miss this guy even more 😭
The lyric is "Nail in my head," not hand. It's the story about Frankenstein's Monster.
I was hoping somebody pointed that out.
Song is a definite jam. I love the percussion in this one and vocals from Chris.
Chris Cornell was once voted the best voice in rock music. He was phenomenal!
"Shadow on the Sun" is my jam but it rocks throughout
Audioslave doesn't have a bad song at all. I wished they could've stayed together. The funk and rock mix was perfect... so much more ground they could've covered.
Amen. I love anything and everything that Chris did. But Audioslave was just extra badass. Perfection.
Front to back album...Cornell was a poet and deep. Exploder is some insane lyrics but this entire album is fire. It's 20 yrs old. 🤟
Great reaction y'all ❤️ Love this whole album, every single song is killer. As only CC could do. Gone but never ever forgotten. RIP
His voice melts my face in "The day I tried to live" RIP Chris.
Like a stone & I am the highway… this whole album is 🔥 🔥🔥🔥
Chris is saying "nail in my head from my creator". Like the Frankenstein monster
Chris’ work on the Temple of the Dog album is something else. “Reach Down” really highlights his soulfulness.
He's tapping his throat with his hand. Miss chris a lot. Rip chris.
This is my favorite Audioslave's !! Thank you guys!! Please also react to Firehouse - Don't Treat Me Bad 🎸🎶
Best reaction I have seen to this song! You will never go wrong with any song with Chris Cornell on vocals. I love seeing people discover and appreciate this music. Happy New year! 💕
I have come to the conclusion that this was best pure hard rock and roll since Zeppelin...
Chris Cornell was by far the best singer to come out of the 90's.
There were many great singers that decade and he was one of many
@@tylerhackner9731 AIC, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots were the only good bands to come out of a decade that produced nothing but crap. You must be a millennial.
@@lw3918 TOOL tops them all. (as far as bands go, but agree that Mr Cornell was a great vocalist)
I've heard he'd hit his throat when they would play it live
To get that effect at the end
I like when i can see the words!!! Makes it so much better! If you haven't done "I am the highway" you should. Also "call me a dog" would be refreshing.
Guys please check out their track "Doesn't remind me". Amazing song
My favorite Audioslave cut...hits hard.

BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my shit right there
Chris Cornell what a legend. Rip
That's pure Cornell no effects
Chris taps his vocal chords. It’s definitely real. He does it in live on stage
It's such a well done song! Guitar wise.
The bassist killed it on this masterpiece

I can’t believe we don’t have Chris any longer. RIP Chris.
It's absolutely my favorite. It's hard, it's deep. That ending. And the video? Jesus. I love it so much.

Chris didn't need a mic man was powerful !😃
The video is homage to the movie Vanishing Point... Featuring Clevon Little as a blind radio DJ... Check out the video, and the original movie.

Love this. I used as a climb in my spin class years ago!
There's a live version where he's chopping his throat at the end, very good song as usual for audioslave great supergroup
Chris will tap his throat to add a pinch in his vocal folds. N it creates that sound
the voice trick: when you sing hit the throat each octave a fifth
CMON BJ! You gotta watch the video!!!!🙄🙄
We all love Chris Cornell... But Robert Plant of Zeppelin was on his level, and possibly an inspiration to Chris.
watch the official video for this song please!
Their best track... IMO
It's called a hiccup, you deliberately let your voice crack.🔥 Chris Cornell had an amazing voice.💯 RIP Chris. 😢🙏💔
Thank You
The most over looked.. slept on male vocalists... rock.. metal.. blues.. pop.. R&B... he could do anything!

Damn girl you need to be watching the video. It’s fire! Gorgeous man Chris Cornell

Chris was “chopping his throat/adams apple” with the edge of his hand while rolling through tone. He made that sound himself
Check out their live performance of Gasoline on a rooftop in NYC. Talk about raw power! You could light up NYC for a week on that electricity!!
He's tapping his Adams apple with his finger
🔥🔥🔥 reaction keep them coming 💯
Asia, I love the Lions gear. Restore the Roar!
Video is epic and references the 70s movie Vanishing Point.
