They did have some absolutely wonderful vehicles. I'd say these people remain unequalled in terms of their levels of creativity and skills, no one today could come close to their wonderfully imaginative ideas. You created some wonderful artworks here, what a wonderful world it would be if these were available.
I watched all the Gerry Anderson shows, from Stingray onwards. I would have loved any of these kits, if they had ever been produced. They would still be selling today. Your work is amazing. Keep them coming.
I know there is a 1/350th Fireflash made by Aoshima (currently re-released by UK based AIP I believe). I am aware of a 'studio scale' resin kit- approx 30" long? (Closer to 1/72nd Ithink).
Superb, having grown up in the 60’s watching thunderbirds and building Airfix I’d have bought and made all of them, always wanted a FAB 2, lady Penelope’s yacht, box art is stunning
Turning things around it was always fun to identify parts of real model kits or toys used in the shows. I believe the Terrahawks land train (or overlander) used wheel and tire sets from the original Tamiya Wild Willy kit, while Gerry must have sourced almost all the UK imports of the Topper Toys Tiger Joe tank, which was real beast but would only move in a straight line. This made it ideal when it was tarted up as the Gray and Houseman Co Pathfinder vehicle. A modified Pathfinder was also briefly seen (repainted in yellow as opposed the red of the original) in Atlantic Inferno as the Australian Road Company - Road Construction Vehicle.

You kind of reminded me of a memory I have of being in school in 1974 ,and me and my mates imagining fantasy model kits ...the Crucifixion of Christ ,Moses and the 10 Commandments, Spartacus,Jason and the Argonauts 7 Headed Hydra Diorama ..stuff like that ...brill video ...loved it ...nice one

Excellent art work. I grew up with the Gary Anderson TV shows. Had the TB kits and a couple of Capt. Scarlet kits. Wish some company would come out with kits from all the shows and in a more adult based set up. The original IMAI kits were playable model toys.
The new Aoshims stuff is great - Thunderbirds 1,2,3,4 !and Fab 1. And the Fireflash. Although a little on the small side. The Mole and the Recovery Vehicle are excellent. And the iconic caterpillar section can be shanghaied and customised for other scrtach built pod vehicles.... for those adventurous enough to tacke that on!.
@@awol1703 If they are not just re-pops of the IMA kits then it is great. I hade them all and they were more toy than model. The Aoshima kits cost an arm and a keg in Canada. Buying them online is also expensive with exchange, shipping, and the taxes applied by our federal and provincial governments.

Spent my childhood glued to the telly watching everything Gerry Anderson & co put out, and buying all of the Airfix & other kits and the Corgi/ Dinky die-cast vehicles too. Then later, as a 35-40-something, I just had to leave work early in order to watch the original Thunderbirds episodes when they were re-aired in the late afternoon slot in the 1990s. Happ, happy days ...
Fun topic thanks for sharing. During the weekdays would get home from first grade just in time to watch stingray. I purchased most of the Anderson shows from prime video.
You put a lot of work into this. Thunderbird 2 was by far my favourite. I had the 'toy' version with gorky looking yellow legs that folded rather than operated telescopically. An accurate decent sized T2 would be FAB!
Oh gosh, for a moment I thought you were announcing new releases... If only, heh? Fireball Junior, Stingray, a Terror Fish, Agent X-20s sub, so many great vehicles to choose from.

Thank you for another excellent trip though what should have been, but wasn't quite. I remember building the Angel Interceptor when I was in grade school (in America,) circa. 1969. My kit didn't come with decals, so I used some leftover decals and painted mine in the SEA USAF camouflage scheme . . . . The one model I wanted when I was a kid was the Jupiter 2 from "Lost in Space." Supposedly, Aurora considered making one, but in the end decided it was, ". . . too plain and simple, and probably wouldn't sell." I can't help but think if they did, they might not have gone out of business some ten years later. Thanks for posting this! 1st Like.

Glad you like the video .Yes I recall the Aurora TV/Sci-Fi kits had a list of similar kits available.. maybe on the reverse of the instruction sheet, and I could swear the Jupiter 2 was on there, along with the Chariot. I had the Polar Lights Jupiter 2 kit from the late 1990s (the 1/72nd) one a few years back and it was pretty good as I recall. But it was one of my first attempts with an airbrush and well, and ended up with a very coarse, matt silver finish...... the model is now lost ...in space :)
@@Matteline Though the Jupiter 2 was one of Aurora's most requested kits, we wouldn't get one until the Polar Lights kit from 1998, (or about a year after the "real one" was launched by Alpha Control.) And at the time, the only model of the Chariot was the under scale example that came with their LiS cyclops scene kit. Another kit we should have got but didn't was when Aurora pulled their plans for a Batcopter in 1/32nd scale around 1968. Even after the "Batman" craze 'ended,' they could have still made it as a stock H-13 / Bell 47; which we wouldn't get until Revell brought one out in 1994 - or about eleven years after the final season of "M*A*S*H." I look forward to your next slideshow of Fantasy Model Kit boxes!
What an enjoyable video!. Seeing as how Thunderbirds came out in 1965, A solid case could be made, that Alan Tracy's BR2 (@6:35) inspired Dodges 1969 Daytona ?....Streamlined nose, Bulges over the front wheels, and of course the rear stabilizer. Thank you for sharing.
I started with a 'Fireball XL5' with a rubber band and a parachute and later an elastic band powered 'Stingray' for the bath. I remember a few years later, as a kid when I bought an 'Angel Interceptor' kit. I made it and showed it proudly to my father who was an old school Aeronautical Inspector with De Havilland, Hawker Siddley and BAe. He said it looked great, but something like that could never fly? I always thought it bore a reasonable semblance to quite a few fourth generation fighters. It was one of the futuristic kits that inspired me to join the RAF in the mid-seventies too. Ironically, most of my twenty odd years, were spent working on aircraft designed before I was born!
I would love to see a Stingray model concept, too, as well as a SPV. These were made into plastic models in Japan, but they were more like toys rather than scale models.
What a fun video and wonderful "what if" artwork. My childhood. I had two angel interceptors, lovely white plastic. Airfix were such an innovative company, they did several Bond tie- ins, given that Gerry Anderson was huge in the 60's, it is surprising that they didn't do some other kits.
I am really curious as to why Airfix only did the Angel Interceptor, as they were obviously in contact with the Anderson team. Still, at least we got that and the terrific Roy Cross artwork.
@@Matteline actually, the story goes that, after the success of the Airfix Spectrum Angel kit, Gerry Anderson approached Airfix and showed them the design for the Eagle BEFORE the series began and arranged a merchandising deal which gave free access to a number of models, before they were released for sale to the general public, and these were used in the series, usually getting blown to bits in the process. Remember this is the 70s, when there were no CGI SFX and everything was done on tight budgets with bits of string and washing-up liquid bottles. Also, did you know that when Derek Meddings was asked if he could build the original design for the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars, he had to admit that he pretty much already had, because the original version was remarkably similar to an Eagle transporter? The familiar shape of Han Solo's ship was a rapidly developed second attempt to avoid possible copyright issues.
@obi-ron The Eagle kitbisnoffldd becaue it is such a shodddy representation. The Angel Interceptor (years before) was pretty good and the Hawk looks like an decent kit - good quality for the time and price - wirthy of the Airfix name. The Eagle kit was such a disappointment. I think the Millennium Falcon story is from when Brlian Johnson was first approached to do the vfx on the film (but was committed to Space:1999 Season 2 and was unavailable).
I would love a kit model of the Stingray sub, the aircraft they showed occasionally, and the Supercar. I never saw Thunderbirds growing up, just never shown here in my youth in the 1960s/1970s. But I have recently seen a few episodes in recent years. Few Airfix kits were available here (Florida, USA) in my youth, but having retired avfew years ago, I am making up for that! 😎
I built all of those 4 you showed in the first slide! I'd also built two Eagles from "Space: 1999" and so SO mega-disappointed when I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago. Same box except they substituted for Alan Carter's picture for Koenig's and while it came with more decals, the side of the thing was so tiny it was embarrassing, massive disappointment and I'm a fan! I'm also with you, I'd love it if they'd made those other vehicle models.
I have 2 of the Airfix Angel Interceptors.. i love the 1/72 scale. I would buy it in 1/35 or 1/48 (as they produced the Spitfires and Messerschmidts) I have some of the Japanese Captain Scarlet and Thunderbird models but they just dont look quite... right. Your FANTASTIC artwork has triggered something in my mind that could possibly be scratch built :) PLEASE send your portfolio to Airfix :)

I came across the IMAI 'Anderson' kits in the late 1980s. My immediate excitement was quickly dissipated when i opened the boxes to see so many 'special features' like firing missiles that came out of engine intakes, and the corresponding levers sticking out all over the place. The new Aoshima kits in real scales are excellent. I just finished up the IMAI Mac's car / Jet Air Car from 'Joe 90' and will be posting a short video o the upgrades I did to get it to be a better representation of the real thing. It is funny building models of models :)
A lot of Gerry Anderson stuff has been done by UNCL models. Currently they have the Yellow Fox transporter and the half track. You may find some of their older kits available online. My prize catch is a 1/72 Skydiver by another company.
In the 60's when the series went out there was a demand for models of the Thunderbird machines. I can't remember quite when they became available but I know I had them. In plastic, (the right colour plastic) I had a Thunderbird 1, 3 & 4 that had clockwork driven wheels. I also had a quite accurate Thunderbird 2 that wasn't clockwork. There was a Thunderbird 5 too, I'd say it had been modified from a previous toy, again clockwork, I think it had flashing lights. The problem with all of them was the accuracy, you tended to notice the differences more than the similarities.
0:25 What's that machine with Thunderbird 2 in the bottom left corner? Edit: apparently Skyship One from "Thunderbird 6", which I haven't seen. My own favourite Thunderbirds vehicle was the forest-eating nuclear-powered Crablogger, which seems pretty appalling today! I think you'd have to put that in 1/600th scale to get it on a bookshelf ;-)
According to 1 airfix book they had the art work set up for the Nautilus from 20,000 leagues under the seas plus another 1/12th car 1911 R.R I think ? Makes one wonder how many more they airfix put away for a rainy day ?
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I grew up with both Thunderbirds and Airfix so this resonates on every level. Though it's hard to fault your box artwork I can easily imagine Roy Cross doing the same. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Yes outstanding! Both this one and you're other video! The nine year old in me so wants these classic kits and it amazes that these weren't actually made, the Dr Who and Anderson range would have been massive Sellers and highly prized collectors pieces today. Another what it I'm surprised Airfix never did was land and water speed record cars and boats. Donald Campbell's Bluebird cars and boats would have made excellent choices for kits as would have ThrustSSC and Bloodhound. The Matcbox Liberator would have been another massive seller, the comet miniatures one was pretty crappy! I would have loved those as a kid.... Ah well thanks for giving us a look at what could have been but sadly wasn't.
Fantastic these box art are incredible . I did a photo shopped version of Spectrum Patrol Car based on a 60s Corvette Stingray, l also did a photoshop version of a Flying wing painting l did , flying over the image of tge Fire Flash you showed , but these are great 👍
Many moons ago I entered a competition in TV21, I won a model kit of FAB1, it was all pre coloured and push fit construction, so seeing your concepts brings a smile to my face, if these were made, I would be in modelling heaven, truly awesome artwork!
I always loved how the name SKYDIVER was split so that SKY was written on the aeroplane part and DIVER was written on the submersible part. Just Cool beyond words. perfection.

Gerrymandering Andersons shows ever. I seen a model company had put out angel flite and and the main thunder birds are go . They where in a small scale.
Agree here that the vehicle design reflected a futuristic world, besides the iconic Thunderbirds 1-5 themselves. Hornby are you watching? I'll be back for part 2.
Absolutely sensational artwork! I shall be 60 this year, and in my life, there have been three constants: Doctor Who, and the worlds created by Gerry Anderson, and Airfix kits. Like you, I have never understood why vehicles from a British property, have been available as kits and toys from almost every country, except Britain, until fairly recently. I own most of the Japanese IMAI/Bandai/Nitto/Popy kits, and good results can be acheived if you're willing to do some surgery, to turn a toy into a model. I have Thunderbird 5 & 3 on a shelf in front of me now. I also have a Bandai diecast ZERO-X, which cost me about £200, but everything works on it. Undercarriage, removable lifting bodies, firing escape pod - even the caterpillar tracks on the MEV work. A friend called it 'Toy porn', and he's probably right. You do incredible work, and seeing it as Airfix box art is really thrilling to me. Thank you. 👍👍👍

My dad bought me a Zero X as a Christmas present. It wasn't a kit but the wings and nose cone came off as I recall. I think part of it was motorised or wind up. I've no idea who it was made by now though.
You are in for a treat. Start with the first episode 'Trapped in the Sky'. Avoid both of the feature films: 'Thunderbirds Are Go' and 'Thunderbird 6'. All 32 episodes are great, although 'SunProbe', 'Move and You're Dead' 'End of the Road' and 'Attack of the Alligators' are some of the ones often cited as favourites among the fans.

I know they are bad, but the attempt at the scope, at getting complex psycho-drama into these puppets, the idiocy of a craft that is assembled on the runway just before its departure (and spending half an Act on showing this)... glorious failures.

Mind you, the Airfix Angel Interceptor is actually underscale and comes out around 1/87th (model Railway HO scale or 3.5mm to the foot) as the Airfix model was based on a small studio model. The closest we got to having kits like those was with lego. Would love to own some of those ships/vehicles. They never age with time and still look so cool.

1:53 I had that exact kit with the ambulance and fire truck. That was mid 70s so either old stock at the time. Or they made a lot . I'm guessing old stock about 10 years.
Stop it with the Silver Plastic!!! (LOL) Another great video and some cracking box-tops. Would you consider doing the side panels for some of these and either selling "reproduction" boxes (this has been done before with Aurora what-ifs) or posting them online for people to make their own? Edit - just read the video info (must remember to do this.....) - still need the side panels though!
The helijet is based on an real idea put forward for a vertical take off and landing aircraft to be used by the US Navy. Things went fine until someone pointed out that the notion of having jet exhausts pointing at the flightdeck was probably not a good one.
Great work again. When you were creating did you think of doing an Elevator Car?. I think that would make a great kit too. I think TX 204 features in Thunderbirds 1st episode "Trapped in the Sky"
Gambody do some really nice 3d print models. I bought a Robby the Robot for £15 from them and if you have a resin 3d Printer it looks really nice. Transparent is still a bit of a problem but they are getting better. I can imagine them doing a thunderbird model. Cheers
Ahh TV21. This aircraft was in the Thunderbirds View Master pack too as well as severalnpublicitybstills in Tv21. One of it where it is crashed in the ocean with Stingray alongside.
The Martian Space Probe was supposed to have a habitation module behind the capsule - I'l love to have a 1/72 model of that but I can't see the vehicle being feasible for a Mars trip, landing and return unless those engines only use tiny quantities of fuel
I am not aware of this. It look like it has a decent stack of exhausts on the back. Maybe it separates in the middle and there were more thrusters there - like the Saturn V - for the return trip. Maybe.
Some of these kits would've been astounding, sadly in the past sci-fi was seen as too "childish", for making kits, they generally tried to sell more "marketable" subjects, as WWII's and modern (for those times) ones. Airfix neverthless made some great pre-Star Wars kits ,as the Eagle and the Hawk from Space: 1999 and the orion shuttle from 2001. But the market was reputed too small for being viable, naturally, looking how Bandai's Gunplas are succesful, they were wrong.
The side winder is cool, the only thing I didn’t like was the legs and feet. They didn’t have much articulation. I feel it should have had “ankle” joints.
I know what you mean. I think the model.had hinges on the 'ankles', but the large scale foot does not. I did a simple 2D animation test of a walk cycle that involved the legs retracting to give the foot clearance as it it swung - or stepped - forward. Then extended to the ground as the machine lurched forward. The feet still didn't hinge though. But I just love the Sidwinder so much! That opening scene with the wild animals fleeing and that music (Barry Gray was a genius) and uprooting the trees. Simply fantastic.

During the weekdays would get home from first grade just in time to watch stingray. I purchased most of the Anderson shows from prime video.
You put a lot of work into this.
Thunderbird 2 was by far my favourite. I had the 'toy' version with gorky looking yellow legs that folded rather than operated telescopically. An accurate decent sized T2 would be FAB!
There are soem Japanese companies that do some really nice big TB2s.

Great idea you came up with....SAF...Saudi Air Force?.....Before Airbus- there was SKYTHRUST....man, the possibilities....I loved SKYSHIP...Very detailed interior...TAKE MY MONEY, these are great kit proposals.....I would've loved just the Martian rover section of the Mars Probe as a kit...I bought a shirt and 3 pricey books from FAB to support his son for all the TV memories....Miss you Gerry.

Thank you for another excellent trip though what should have been, but wasn't quite. I remember building the Angel Interceptor when I was in grade school (in America,) circa. 1969. My kit didn't come with decals, so I used some leftover decals and painted mine in the SEA USAF camouflage scheme . . . .
The one model I wanted when I was a kid was the Jupiter 2 from "Lost in Space." Supposedly, Aurora considered making one, but in the end decided it was, ". . . too plain and simple, and probably wouldn't sell." I can't help but think if they did, they might not have gone out of business some ten years later.

Glad you like the video .Yes I recall the Aurora TV/Sci-Fi kits had a list of similar kits available.. maybe on the reverse of the instruction sheet, and I could swear the Jupiter 2 was on there, along with the Chariot. I had the Polar Lights Jupiter 2 kit from the late 1990s (the 1/72nd) one a few years back and it was pretty good as I recall.
But it was one of my first attempts with an airbrush and well, and ended up with a very coarse, matt silver finish...... the model is now lost ...in space :)
@@Matteline Though the Jupiter 2 was one of Aurora's most requested kits, we wouldn't get one until the Polar Lights kit from 1998, (or about a year after the "real one" was launched by Alpha Control.) And at the time, the only model of the Chariot was the under scale example that came with their LiS cyclops scene kit.
Another kit we should have got but didn't was when Aurora pulled their plans for a Batcopter in 1/32nd scale around 1968. Even after the "Batman" craze 'ended,' they could have still made it as a stock H-13 / Bell 47; which we wouldn't get until Revell brought one out in 1994 - or about eleven years after the final season of "M*A*S*H."

What an enjoyable video!. Seeing as how Thunderbirds came out in 1965, A solid case could be made, that Alan Tracy's BR2 (@6:35) inspired Dodges 1969 Daytona ?....Streamlined nose, Bulges over the front wheels, and of course the rear stabilizer.

I started with a 'Fireball XL5' with a rubber band and a parachute and later an elastic band powered 'Stingray' for the bath.
I remember a few years later, as a kid when I bought an 'Angel Interceptor' kit. I made it and showed it proudly to my father who was an old school Aeronautical Inspector with De Havilland, Hawker Siddley and BAe. He said it looked great, but something like that could never fly? I always thought it bore a reasonable semblance to quite a few fourth generation fighters. It was one of the futuristic kits that inspired me to join the RAF in the mid-seventies too. Ironically, most of my twenty odd years, were spent working on aircraft designed before I was born!
Love Thunderbirds, my mom turned me on to Gerry Anderson in the early 90's when I was a kid. Would love these as model kits. Well done sir.

I would love to see a Stingray model concept, too, as well as a SPV. These were made into plastic models in Japan, but they were more like toys rather than scale models.

What a fun video and wonderful "what if" artwork. My childhood. I had two angel interceptors, lovely white plastic. Airfix were such an innovative company, they did several Bond tie- ins, given that Gerry Anderson was huge in the 60's, it is surprising that they didn't do some other kits.
I am really curious as to why Airfix only did the Angel Interceptor, as they were obviously in contact with the Anderson team. Still, at least we got that and the terrific Roy Cross artwork.
@obi-ron The Hawk was an OK kit. But the Eagle was pretty dreadful. I think both were MPC kits that were sold by Airfix.
@@Matteline actually, the story goes that, after the success of the Airfix Spectrum Angel kit, Gerry Anderson approached Airfix and showed them the design for the Eagle BEFORE the series began and arranged a merchandising deal which gave free access to a number of models, before they were released for sale to the general public, and these were used in the series, usually getting blown to bits in the process. Remember this is the 70s, when there were no CGI SFX and everything was done on tight budgets with bits of string and washing-up liquid bottles. Also, did you know that when Derek Meddings was asked if he could build the original design for the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars, he had to admit that he pretty much already had, because the original version was remarkably similar to an Eagle transporter? The familiar shape of Han Solo's ship was a rapidly developed second attempt to avoid possible copyright issues.
@obi-ron The Eagle kitbisnoffldd becaue it is such a shodddy representation. The Angel Interceptor (years before) was pretty good and the Hawk looks like an decent kit - good quality for the time and price - wirthy of the Airfix name. The Eagle kit was such a disappointment. I think the Millennium Falcon story is from when Brlian Johnson was first approached to do the vfx on the film (but was committed to Space:1999 Season 2 and was unavailable).

I would love a kit model of the Stingray sub, the aircraft they showed occasionally, and the Supercar. I never saw Thunderbirds growing up, just never shown here in my youth in the 1960s/1970s. But I have recently seen a few episodes in recent years.
Few Airfix kits were available here (Florida, USA) in my youth, but having retired avfew years ago, I am making up for that! 😎
I built all of those 4 you showed in the first slide! I'd also built two Eagles from "Space: 1999" and so SO mega-disappointed when I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago. Same box except they substituted for Alan Carter's picture for Koenig's and while it came with more decals, the side of the thing was so tiny it was embarrassing, massive disappointment and I'm a fan!
I'm also with you, I'd love it if they'd made those other vehicle models.
I have 2 of the Airfix Angel Interceptors.. i love the 1/72 scale. I would buy it in 1/35 or 1/48 (as they produced the Spitfires and Messerschmidts) I have some of the Japanese Captain Scarlet and Thunderbird models but they just dont look quite... right. Your FANTASTIC artwork has triggered something in my mind that could possibly be scratch built :)

Beautiful artwork Mat. Funny, I just sis a hisyory video on Paramount Hobbies (USA) which imported the Japanese kits of the Gerry Anderson craft.
I came across the IMAI 'Anderson' kits in the late 1980s. My immediate excitement was quickly dissipated when i opened the boxes to see so many 'special features' like firing missiles that came out of engine intakes, and the corresponding levers sticking out all over the place. The new Aoshima kits in real scales are excellent. I just finished up the IMAI Mac's car / Jet Air Car from 'Joe 90' and will be posting a short video o the upgrades I did to get it to be a better representation of the real thing. It is funny building models of models :)
A lot of Gerry Anderson stuff has been done by UNCL models. Currently they have the Yellow Fox transporter and the half track. You may find some of their older kits available online. My prize catch is a 1/72 Skydiver by another company.
In the 60's when the series went out there was a demand for models of the Thunderbird machines. I can't remember quite when they became available but I know I had them. In plastic, (the right colour plastic) I had a Thunderbird 1, 3 & 4 that had clockwork driven wheels. I also had a quite accurate Thunderbird 2 that wasn't clockwork. There was a Thunderbird 5 too, I'd say it had been modified from a previous toy, again clockwork, I think it had flashing lights.
The problem with all of them was the accuracy, you tended to notice the differences more than the similarities.
The J Rosenthal toys. the Thunderbird 4 was a great likeness :)

My own favourite Thunderbirds vehicle was the forest-eating nuclear-powered Crablogger, which seems pretty appalling today! I think you'd have to put that in 1/600th scale to get it on a bookshelf ;-)
I've got 1/350 models of both Sidewinder and crablogger. They aren't that big.

According to 1 airfix book they had the art work set up for the Nautilus from 20,000 leagues under the seas plus another 1/12th car 1911 R.R I think ? Makes one wonder how many more they airfix put away for a rainy day ?
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I grew up with both Thunderbirds and Airfix so this resonates on every level. Though it's hard to fault your box artwork I can easily imagine Roy Cross doing the same. Thoroughly enjoyable!

The nine year old in me so wants these classic kits and it amazes that these weren't actually made, the Dr Who and Anderson range would have been massive Sellers and highly prized collectors pieces today.
Another what it I'm surprised Airfix never did was land and water speed record cars and boats.
Donald Campbell's Bluebird cars and boats would have made excellent choices for kits as would have ThrustSSC and Bloodhound.
The Matcbox Liberator would have been another massive seller, the comet miniatures one was pretty crappy!
I would have loved those as a kid....

Fantastic these box art are incredible . I did a photo shopped version of Spectrum Patrol Car based on a 60s Corvette Stingray, l also did a photoshop version of a Flying wing painting l did , flying over the image of tge Fire Flash you showed , but these are great 👍

Many moons ago I entered a competition in TV21, I won a model kit of FAB1, it was all pre coloured and push fit construction, so seeing your concepts brings a smile to my face, if these were made, I would be in modelling heaven, truly awesome artwork!

I always loved how the name SKYDIVER was split so that SKY was written on the aeroplane part and DIVER was written on the submersible part. Just Cool beyond words. perfection.

I seen a model company had put out angel flite and and the main thunder birds are go . They where in a small scale.
Agree here that the vehicle design reflected a futuristic world, besides the iconic Thunderbirds 1-5 themselves. Hornby are you watching? I'll be back for part 2.

Absolutely sensational artwork! I shall be 60 this year, and in my life, there have been three constants: Doctor Who, and the worlds created by Gerry Anderson, and Airfix kits.
Like you, I have never understood why vehicles from a British property, have been available as kits and toys from almost every country, except Britain, until fairly recently. I own most of the Japanese IMAI/Bandai/Nitto/Popy kits, and good results can be acheived if you're willing to do some surgery, to turn a toy into a model. I have Thunderbird 5 & 3 on a shelf in front of me now. I also have a Bandai diecast ZERO-X, which cost me about £200, but everything works on it. Undercarriage, removable lifting bodies, firing escape pod - even the caterpillar tracks on the MEV work. A friend called it 'Toy porn', and he's probably right.

I remember building an Angel Interceptor in it's day. I would love to build a SPV or SPC from the Captain Scarlet series or Lady Penelopes RR. A whole Fireflash, Ambulance/ Fire engine/ Elevator Cars set would be so cool.

My dad bought me a Zero X as a Christmas present. It wasn't a kit but the wings and nose cone came off as I recall. I think part of it was motorised or wind up. I've no idea who it was made by now though.
I still haven't watched Thunderbirds.. Something I hope to change at some point when I find the free time.
You are in for a treat. Start with the first episode 'Trapped in the Sky'. Avoid both of the feature films: 'Thunderbirds Are Go' and 'Thunderbird 6'.
All 32 episodes are great, although 'SunProbe', 'Move and You're Dead' 'End of the Road' and 'Attack of the Alligators' are some of the ones often cited as favourites among the fans.

I _like_ the feature films. I know they are bad, but the attempt at the scope, at getting complex psycho-drama into these puppets, the idiocy of a craft that is assembled on the runway just before its departure (and spending half an Act on showing this)... glorious failures.

Mind you, the Airfix Angel Interceptor is actually underscale and comes out around 1/87th (model Railway HO scale or 3.5mm to the foot) as the Airfix model was based on a small studio model. Still fun to build though.
The closest we got to having kits like those was with lego. Would love to own some of those ships/vehicles. They never age with time and still look so cool.

1:53 I had that exact kit with the ambulance and fire truck. That was mid 70s so either old stock at the time. Or they made a lot . I'm guessing old stock about 10 years.
There are a few "what if" that could be built without too much work. Some though would require Meddings level work - LOL

I used to love the old Airfix boxes with images of the other similar/same series kits.
The helijet is based on an real idea put forward for a vertical take off and landing aircraft to be used by the US Navy. Things went fine until someone pointed out that the notion of having jet exhausts pointing at the flightdeck was probably not a good one.
Great work again. When you were creating did you think of doing an Elevator Car?. I think that would make a great kit too. I think TX 204 features in Thunderbirds 1st episode "Trapped in the Sky"
TX 204 also appears in 'The Mighty Atom'. The Elevator Car is superb.

A lot of the aircraft designs are very unique but I have often wondered if they could really work in the real world
Gambody do some really nice 3d print models. I bought a Robby the Robot for £15 from them and if you have a resin 3d Printer it looks really nice. Transparent is still a bit of a problem but they are getting better. I can imagine them doing a thunderbird model. Cheers

Ahh TV21. This aircraft was in the Thunderbirds View Master pack too as well as severalnpublicitybstills in Tv21. One of it where it is crashed in the ocean with Stingray alongside.
The Martian Space Probe was supposed to have a habitation module behind the capsule - I'l love to have a 1/72 model of that but I can't see the vehicle being feasible for a Mars trip, landing and return unless those engines only use tiny quantities of fuel

It look like it has a decent stack of exhausts on the back. Maybe it separates in the middle and there were more thrusters there - like the Saturn V - for the return trip. Maybe.
Some of these kits would've been astounding, sadly in the past sci-fi was seen as too "childish", for making kits, they generally tried to sell more "marketable" subjects, as WWII's and modern (for those times) ones. Airfix neverthless made some great pre-Star Wars kits ,as the Eagle and the Hawk from Space: 1999 and the orion shuttle from 2001. But the market was reputed too small for being viable, naturally, looking how Bandai's Gunplas are succesful, they were wrong.
The side winder is cool, the only thing I didn’t like was the legs and feet.

I know what you mean. I think the model.had hinges on the 'ankles', but the large scale foot does not. I did a simple 2D animation test of a walk cycle that involved the legs retracting to give the foot clearance as it it swung - or stepped - forward. Then extended to the ground as the machine lurched forward. The feet still didn't hinge though. But I just love the Sidwinder so much! That opening scene with the wild animals fleeing and that music (Barry Gray was a genius) and uprooting the trees. Simply fantastic.
