  • Dave Ramsey says you can skip credit altogether and still get a mortgage through manual underwriting with a zero credit score.
    But does that really work in today’s world?
    Sure, manual underwriting is an option, but it often means higher interest rates, extra fees, and you’ll likely end up with an FHA loan-meaning you’re stuck paying for PMI. And let’s be honest, nobody loves paying PMI.
    For those who do want to build credit, it’s about control, not avoidance. Use credit cards responsibly, keep your utilization low, and pay them off each month.
