      @metalfaust19 Gameplay aside I was just impressed with how good the video looked for an early CD based game. I don't think I've seen video and scrolling in a CD ROM game for that time period look that good.

      I think the CDI was kinda focused on the video playback aspect, so at least that aspect was good in comparison to others, I think... I'm sure I heard that somewhere... I think I remember the version of 7th guest on CDI looking better, but I might have imagined it... I don't think it had any actual 3D games, but it's been a while... One of my friends used to have one lol

    i love that intro, the guy singing is Jimmy Hart, Hulk Hogans manager for many years and he also wrote a bunch of the W.C.W. themes

      Wrestling in the 80s and 90s was golden. It was so over the top. Jimmy Hart singing the opening theme made me nostalgia so hard that I Hulked up and Stinky Leg Dropped myself.

    Hulk’s mustache is not a handlebar mustache. It’s sometimes referred to as a Fu Manchu, which is also false.
    It is a horseshoe mustache.

    They filmed this at the Disney hotels, Grand Floridian mostly. The scene where James is “vaporizing guys” was filmed at the Disney water park Typhoon Lagoon. You can briefly see the pool and slides in the background. Also looks like they filmed it at the Fort Wilderness resort on the beach. Crazy to think these scenes with Hulk are a couple hundred yards from the Magic Kingdom lol

    The location of the start of the on rail shooter is Typhoon Lagoon, a Disney Water Park in Walt Disney World. It just blows my head.

      This whole game was probably shot at Disney World. The city part was definitely the New York Street section of Disney MGM Studios. They used to have the Scarab boat on the backlot tour years ago and I think a lot of the show was shot there.

    Thunder in Paradise was a fun thing to watch in a time where most of the things were so so, i mean there were awesome stuff but it wasnt 24/7 on TV (or cinema) like it is now. Now we are berried in things. I literally got no time to finish watching everything on my list... and i hope i will before i die.

    Was literally watching another video yesterday on weird 90's FMV games that included this. I'm honestly not sure what's weirder, that games like this existed or that I considered them the pinnacle of video game technology as a kid.
    That said, all joking aside, this doesn't seem particularly terrible by the standards of its time. It seems like a pretty straightforward and functional rail shooter with clear video.

    At 9:24 that is the Disney’s MGM Studios theme park. They had a section of the park called “streets of New York,” you could walk around and take pictures and it was also used to film things in the 90s when the theme park doubled as an actual working movie studio. Bette Midler filmed scenes for one of her movies here.

    When I remember correctly the „graphics card“ that James needed was the mpeg2 decoder card that some models have built in. That’s also the reason why the image quality is so good.....

      It's a Gravis gamepad which is basically a CDI controller but a different color and for PC, so not that far off. You can see the joystick attached.

      I find it crazy that I original loved nostalgia critic and despised AVGN. Then a year later I get to see not AVGN, but James Rolfe who is such a nice guy that he ended up being my favorite TH-camr other than Jontron. I'd rather sit and listen to James talk about books and stuff than Doug's thoughts on how the New Karate Kid is better than the old.

    Ah, the "Hogan goes Hollywood" period of the mid 90s. It gave us such treasures as "Mr. Nanny", "Santa with Muscles", "Suburban Commando" and of course, "Thunder in Paradise".
    It's also worth pointing out that it's directly after the period when Vince McMahon was involved in that massive steroid scandal. If you were thinking that Hulk doesn't look quite as 'big' in these videos as he did when he was wrestling, you're probably right.

    Funny game, but glad it was playable. I would've loved to be a cameraman for a 90s rail shooter game! Between the running around with the camera and stunts, it must've been a lot of fun for the people involved.

    The video card was a CD-i accessory that was required for the games that used FMV technology. Some models come with one built in, some don't and require you to buy it separately and install it, but if you buy a used system today, chances are you'll probably get one that has the card already installed anyway.
    I had this game, it's pretty neat as far as "TV shows that include gameplay elements" games went, especially if you like the show. It delivers what it promises.

      That's mostly why I watched the show as a kid, for the creative reuse of theme parks and hotels as sets. Need a middle eastern courtyard? Epcot has you covered. European castle? Well we have one of those at the Magic Kingdom, no one will notice!

    Thunder in Paradise is legendary for the sheer amount of buttons and switches, and space (including a microwave for food) inside of that military speedboat. Carol Alt, Felicity Waterman, Heidi Mark are there too

      I was a huge Hogan fan as a kid and still never watched the movie or a single episode of the show.
      However, by that time my Hulk Hogan fandom was waining.

    Some of the scenes looked like they were filmed at typhoon Lagoon in Florida. After a quick search I found a wiki article that said production for the show was filmed at Disney's Hollywood Studios and the surrounding Disneyworld areas!

    I loved Thunder in Paradies as a kid. Today i always ask myself, when i have kids, how can i possibly explain them why i got excited to see a wrestler who got a speedboat. :D I mean, yes ok it was a cool speedboat, but i definatly was no Knight Industries 2000...it was more like the bike from Streethawk.

    Didn't they make a movie out of this? I just remember the Hulkster huffing and puffing to "oxygenate" his blood for a long swim in a underwater cave lol. That and glowsticks... it was the 90's, i was basically always baked... ok i'm still always baked but that's not the point damn it!

    Also the City Facade that they were complaining why there’s cricket noises there too, that was part of Disney MGM Studios, now called Disney Hollywood Studios. The Facade is now mostly demolished and being made into Star Wars Land for Disney World. Just so weird Disney okayed an on rail shooter around 2 of their newest parks at this time.

      actually had games like samurai shodown, super Street fighter 2 and gex among others. The CDI on the other hand was a pure landfill of pure garbage.

    It's obviously the MPEG-1 decoder module that you need for this game.. sometimes I wish you guys knew a bit more about the systems you own. You could buy VHS-ish quality movies on VCD, and needed that module to watch them. That's why the video quality doesn't look like ASS

    There's a video module that goes in the CD-I. It also allows you to play video CD's. I'm fortunate that mine already had one installed. And there are some okay games on the system, like The Apprentice and Mutant Rampage Bodyslam.

    Thunder in Paradise was shot pretty much exclusively on Disney property, so the Island scenes are very likely Discovery Island.

    This feels like the ultimate Hot Couch game for a certain generation. Like, you'd go over to that guy's house, and he'd insist you watch the show on the disc before you played the game, and he'd laugh loudly throughout the episode, even though you knew he had seen it at least ten times. All while you sat on a hot, sticky, faux leather couch.

    This was filmed on location at Walt Disney world. The opening theme is filmed in Bay lake as you can see the Disney hotels. The shooting part was filmed at typhoon lagoon water park. If you look closely you can see the bottom of the water slides.
