    Benny Leonard was a wizard in the ring. There is very little footage that exists of Leonard. But what we have, shows a glimpse into the boxing brilliance of the Ghetto Wizard.
    Accolades:
    Widely considered one of the all-time greats, he was ranked 8th on The Ring magazine's list of the "80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years" and placed 7th in ESPN's "50 Greatest Boxers of All-Time".
    In 2005, the International Boxing Research Organization ranked Leonard as the #1 lightweight, and #8 best pound-for-pound fighter of all-time.
    Statistical website BoxRec rates Leonard as the 2nd best lightweight ever, while The Ring magazine founder Nat Fleischer placed him at #2.

    Look at the footwork from these guys from back in the day. The way they were able to get in and out with shots their explosiveness in general. I love how today all these strength & conditioning coaches out here are teaching all these crazy exercises and methods yet we rarely see anything like these men here in this video anymore. But yet we hear sports evolution this and that. Really makes you wonder

    His boxrec says 89-6, but when you scroll down you’ll see way more losses (22 in total). How is this possible? And where does NWS stands for? Maybe you know why Reznick?

    • @hallvardvalde3882
      @hallvardvalde3882 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      NWS stands for Newspaper-decision. Back in those times they used to have no-decision matches, where if the match went distance then the match was declared a draw. In the case of such matches, Boxrec finds different newspapers from the time of the match to see who the journalist of the time belived won these matches, but they don't count them for a boxers record since these newspapers obviously aren't always correct or sometimes are biased.

    • @thinchcommunications7151
      @thinchcommunications7151 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The newspaper losses, were some newspapers more or less likely to give a black or a Jewish fighter the loss? I remember that famous fight where there was the German fighter, I forget the name, he was a real hero.

    • @constantine7382
      @constantine7382 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In that time, you had baseball and boxing. Every newspaper had a boxing reporter that people trusted. The gamblers went by these to declare a winner and pay out bets. At that time, with the amount of fights these guys had, 22 loses was really not a big deal. You were bound to have bad nights and a few bad decisions. Greb had 16 loses and was probably the best ever. ( He also had 261 wins!)

    Larry Fine was fighting at the same time, and they would have fought, but Larry killed a guy in the ring and was so devastated by it that he never boxed again. Larry was an animal, in the mold of Roberto Duran, and would have put Leonard's lights out in three rounds.
