take your time sir. I've put myself on restriction status. No more overbuying of games (or miniatures) until I get my backlog of unplayed n unpainted cut in half. maybe by Xmas...?
The box art style reminds me of early to mid 1990 s video game art. Dune 2, Doom, lemmings and the like. Not sure about the game itself, but the style seems very dated.
DG's box graphics are... generally not great. There's no real unifying look and clearly they're done by folks with little background in graphic design.
I own it, almost considered selling, but I think I’ll keep it. I haven’t had a chance to dive into this because of so many other titles, and it does look like the rules could use better organization. I think if you can put the time in, there’s probably a great game here.
I’ve had the game for a year. It’s fine. Is it the greatest war game ever? Probably not. I found it good. Pretty balanced. Like any desert warfare game the bold are either rewarded or in real trouble.
There are 4 pages of errata for the boxed version. This is the third time around for this design going back to the original S&T versions. Not acceptable. I'll play my original Berg version.
This game is so incredibly **frustrating** in that, there just *might be* a decent game in there somewhere; and certainly one with a scope for North Africa like no other. But, the rules and the execution are just bungled; TWICE. You're not the only one who "can't figure out how to use the Event Cards". That's Exhibit A of things wrong with this game. When I tried to create a Vassal module, the Events were so full of contradictions I couldn't set the scenarios up with any degree of confidence. Yes, that bad. Now, when you need the Developer's Notes to go rule section by rule section.... that, my friends is a SIGN. The maps, though, are a tour de force, I must admit. The counters less so, with the delicate serif fonts and "slightly off" coloring.
You have been talking about getting this for a while. Interested to hear your thoughts after some in depth investigation.
Just picked this up last week from Noble Knight. My only other WWII desert game I played is Patton's First Victory, so this is certainly a step up :)
Interesting and valuable. Will shop it soon. Thanks!
I played the original SPI Desert Fox back in the 80's, it was a good game.
This looks… fine? Surprisingly looks well made.

Now I know why you stated Stiglr was gonna have a coronary. LOL

I set up my game and it is half a foot too long for a 8’ by 4’ table, kinda frustrating.
I think Shifting Sands also does the whole desert
Looking at the counter count, compared to the size of the game in maps, doesn’t the counter count seem low?
Not really. Many of the maps are small and it's North Africa, so I expect a relatively low unit density.
@@ardwulfslair ah alright. I don’t know about that theatre much, were unit density’s fairly low I take it?
thank you for showing the maps

This looks promising, sorry Stiglr
Is this two player?
Yes but easy enough to solo just playing both sides.
I’ve played a smaller scenario of this game and liked it. I don’t get what is wrong with it.
