Great stuff, I didn't realise the cliff was still there in the 70s, assumed it eroded long before. I remember the fun fair but the swimming pool was a bit before time. Thanks for watching!
Well done! Thank you for highlighting what a wonderful place Sheppey is. Beautiful scenery, beautiful people, wonderful island I have the privilege to live there 😊

Excellent, glad you enjoyed it Basil. Apparently the cliffs were much further out, and the war ships were (unsurprisingly) a lot less rusted not so long ago
Yes loads of people have walked around the island, just like the island run we used to get sponsored to do it. So your not the only one to do it, enjoyed watching your video 📹👀
Thanks Stephen, I did the Island Run many years ago and it was only 10 miles or so across the island (along roads), as opposed to 34 miles around the coast! It would be very bad for the coastline if such an event were set up with multiple runners, the erosion is too severe and the logistics regarding tide times would be a nightmare! I'm sure other walkers have done the whole coastline though, I just didn't know of anyone, nor did my Dad who's lived on the island his whole life and is 72 now!

Gypsy Tart ! My favourite pudding at school (Borden Grammar School, Sittingbourne) all those centuries ago. Almost worth a 200 mile trip to that Sheerness bakers !
A very interesting non-standard hike. 34 miles is a lot in a day, especially on a beach because of the slope and over sand at times loose rock. There was a lot of history and abandoned areas in this which was interesting. I'm too am still stumped how the stump got there. This turned into quite an adventure for you with wrong ways, having to turn around, often not sure of which way to go. I think I once saw a part of Sheppey Island when I was on a bus from London to Canterbury. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! Yes definitely something a bit different! And you're right, the terrain can make beach walking difficult. Haha such a lame pun about the stump 🙈 you may well have seen the island, it's just over the water from Whitstable near Canterbury. Thanks again for watching!
So you’re from Sheppey! I was wondering where your lovely, rich, south of England accent came from. I could listen to you read out the phone book In 2005 I interviewed to teach English at Minster College and stayed the night before at the Abbey Hotel … I’ll never forget.
Hello, did the walk around the island 60 years ago with my younger brother. can't remember the time but it wasn't as fast as you. It was summer and we took most of the day to do it and all we had were some jam sandwiches (as was the custom of the day). I think that we may have had it easier then you as the coast line was easier to access and we didn't have the population that they have now. We would find live ammo washed up from the sunken ammo ship, we would look but never touched, to scared too. We also found fish left behind in pools from the retreating tide. So sad to see all the rubbish, I never saw anything like that, only items left over from the war. Enjoyed the video, took me back to the long ago. Cheers.
60 years ago, wow! The leftover stuff from the war must have still been in good condition then! Love a jam sandwich! Yes, a lot of the rubbish is from houses tumbling down from the eroded cliff but fly-tippers have added to that. There seems to be issues with fly-tipping all over Kent for some reason. Amazing about the live ammo! They've only just taken the masts down from the Montgomery shipwreck, if you remember that. I guess from your username you're in New Zealand now? Thanks for watching 😄
@@no_soy_rubio Hello again, yes I remember the masts sticking out of the water very well. I've been in NZ for nearly 60 years now and the UK has changed so much in that time. It is now a strange country to me and I don't recognize Sheppy much either. The cliffs have certainly eroded far more then I can remember. Unstoppable time marches on .TEMPORA MUTANTA NOS MUTAMUR IN ILLIS. Cheers from NZ
Isle of where? Yeah you're right...never heard of it 😂Was that a car chassis on the beach? Looks a bit like a place time forgot and the rickety old buildings didn't help with that. I'm not sure it's a walk I would want to do but good on ya for doing it and showing me what I'm missing 👍There were some scenic parts and the weather was great. The mermaid didn't seem too pleased and wants to blow the place up to start over. Nice one 👍 Paul
🤣🤣 yeah that's a chassis alright! Probably fell off the cliffs when it eroded, or someone went on a mad joyride...it definitely feels like the end of the world on the eastern, more isolated, end of the island! Hahaha the merman definitely isn't impressed 🤣 cheers!
Visited Sheppey a few years ago whilst travelling round the coast. It was SO hot. I wandered onto the nudist beach at Shellness by mistake. I kept my pants firmly in place and wandered off again. Great video.
Quite an epic day of walking. I have never been on Sheppey so followed the circuit with extra interest. I have passed the turn off on the A2 so many times and wondering if the island was worth a look. It is such a shame that so many people think that the more isolated areas of the country are rubbish dumps. Some of the earlier views over the estuary were really interesting with those big stormy skies. Blue Town also looked worth a look. Thanks for the walk.
Totally agree re the fly-tipping. Bluetown is interesting, there's a little heritage centre and cinema there, unfortunately I was a bit tired by that point so didn't pop in for a look! I do love those big open skies as well. Thanks for watching 😁
QUEENBOROUGH is also a historic place - the little quay at Queenborough creek is lovely - nearly all the houses date to the very early part of the 18th century. A couple of nice pubs and cafes there to feed the inner man.
Brilliant brilliant ! . This must be the last semi wilderness in easy reach of London. I hope it does not lead to troops of keep fit looneys tramping round the island in convoys looking for absolution. Find another place like this within easy reach of London.
I would say the only other places are the areas around Cliffe (along the Thames between Gravesend and Isle of Grain) and, although rather different, Dungeness. I made videos in both places, this is the Cliffe one if you'd like to see it: th-cam.com/video/UhoD10v2l8w/w-d-xo.html
I can asure anyone who thinks Sheppey is awful - it is a wonderfull place to live. There are areas which aren't all that nice (everywhere has poor areas) but there is so much history, and so much to see here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
There sure is a lot of history! Just wish they'd stop building so many houses now!

Once you get away from the grim housing estate's and town centre, there are some nice spot's on the island to go for a walk 💯👍👍
Definitely, most people only visit Sheerness which is a shame
ว้าว บรรยากาศดีมาก เหมาะกับการเดินไปรอบๆ

Damn bro 😂 I already feel my knees hurting from this video 🤣 splendid hike though! Awesome vlog
Haha thanks man, I still feel mine hurting 😂
Theres a little bunker by Hearty ferry pub too
Ahh I didn't know! Will check it out next time I'm down there!
I could listen to you read out the phone book
In 2005 I interviewed to teach English at Minster College and stayed the night before at the Abbey Hotel … I’ll never forget.
You had a lucky escape, that's a rough school 😆
@@no_soy_rubio so I’m told by everyone in the world
Hello, did the walk around the island 60 years ago with my younger brother. can't remember the time but it wasn't as fast as you.
Haha we all say we ended up on that beach 'by mistake' 😆 thanks for watching!
🤣🤣🤣@@no_soy_rubio
I made videos in both places, this is the Cliffe one if you'd like to see it:

Looks like a great place to hike
Thanks Naomi 😁
