Done with Paper 1. Thank you for all your videos. It really helped me a lot as comparative commentary sample responses and tips were limited. Onto paper 2 now. Wish me luck!!😅😊😊
Can you please explain what do you mean by "how purpose shapes the meaning of the text"? And if any of you people know this plz reply in case ma'am cant. Thank you :)
Different purposes have different conventions. For example, a speech for high school teens would be more colloquial and satirical than a speech for the teachers or parents of the school. For teens, it could be to prep them for an exam or engage them in profile-building activities, whereas for parents, it could be about their child's academic future etc. Therefore, the text's purpose shapes your language, style, and form.
Hi, I was wondering, regarding the purpose of a text, if it is possible to find a different answer than the one suggested in the mark scheme. Case in point - May/June 2021 (9093) Variant-12 (Question No.2). I arrived at the conclusion that the purpose of the text is to persuade the audience to take action against climate change. Contrary to that, the mark scheme states the purpose to be "present the official opinion of the publication" (it was an editorial piece). So, am I still correct? Another point, I have been studying and come to realize a pattern- every purpose can be boxed into 3 broad categories- to inform, to entertain, to persuade. How wrong am I? Thanks in advance. Hope you have a great day.
An editorial is considered an opinion by by most news papers and I think it could be because majority of the text stated the problems and not solution accept in the last part, im not sure but that could be reason why it was opinion and not persuasion
@@shimzafatima7806 That is a plausible explanation yet consider this- What if the editor sought to relay the gravity of the situation by laying out all the problems caused in the beginning and then presented a potential solution? Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to respond.
