Happy New Year, and thanks for the previous year's great reviewing and recommending! You definitely made the right choice about Joy to the World; I thought it started promisingly, but then quickly became everything that most people feared it would. I should have known better! I've tried repeatedly with Severance, but haven't been able to get drawn in; I'll grit my teeth and give it another go, on the basis that you've clearly found it so enjoyable. Like most people, I found Squid Games to be a mind-blowing experience, definitely worth the hype, with great characters and scenarios. However, I was a little underwhelmed with season two, largely because they appear to have performed that most irritating trick of splitting a season in half, and I wouldn't even have minded as much if they'd left things more sensibly poised. Also, although I fully agree that we were invited to think a little more about the nature of the games, much of those seven episodes were essentially a remake of season one; nevertheless, I'll still be watching later this year, finding your ideas for how it may end very intriguing (and plausible)! Certainly been a great couple of years for the espionage thriller genre; can't wait for The Night Agent, Reacher, and Terminal List; also very much enjoyed the 'West Wing meets 24' nature of The Diplomat! Try as I might, I can muster no enthusiasm for the upcoming Daredevil; much like you, I found the Netflix series unsurpassable, and feel like I'll be doing it a disservice to even entertain this one. Many thanks and all the best for now. Paul
Hi Paul, Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. As i said Severance is a slow burn but the pay off is definitely worth it, one of the best season finales ever. As Netflix have split it into 2 seasons and it was filmed as one, i think S2 will work better once you can watch it with S3, giving half a season and calling it a season. If they had said Part 1 or Mid season finale i think people will have not have been so miffed by the abrupt end. The Diplomat is great writing and characterisation, the characters as so floored, something you don't see these days and the fact it carried straight on from S1 i really enjoyed not just a time jump so we don't have to tie everything up. I want Daredevil to be good so much but I don't think Disney has it in them i really want to be proved wrong on this one!. Have a great 2025 A
@@atomicblondeldn8795 I might as well tell you, I'm, currently halfway through Severance, which is by far the deepest I've gone! I'm actually starting to see its potential, so greatly appreciate the nudge your recap gave me. I do take your point about Squid Game, although I didn't realise that they'd actually filmed it as one season. I'm sure if I rewatch the previous seven prior to the next however many, it'll seem more agreeable; still a disappointing decision to take, though, and I can only assume that it must somehow be more lucrative for them to do it this way. I've paid so little attention to the nature of the Daredevil return that I've only just realised that the original Netflix cast are returning (apologies if I missed this in your preview). This puts a much different complexion on things; I'll definitely be watching, and will be incredulous if Disney manage to make a mess of it on such a basis; and yet... Thanks again, have a great 2025 yourself, and all the best for now. Paul
Keep going with Severance... if you hate the ending you never need to preserver again..... Yes i did say the original cast is back meaning Karen and Foggy but no worries when you're checked out I get it! A
