He just destroyed in the St. Louis Rapid and Blitz increasing his blitz rating by over a 100 points, absolutely unreal performance. He's rated over 2900 in blitz now making him currently second in the world in that time control.

He is by so far my favorite chess player of the last 7 years !

Great video, thanks. And looking at his performance in the chess olympiad and even more now in St. Louis, where he became as I think the youngest 2900+ blitz (completely skipping 2800) and one of only 6 players ever reaching 2900, I think you were right that the setback in the candidates should not be overrated.

Great video ! I think the guy is young, let him experience and have fun, he wasn't expecting to win the candidates. Only price he pays is a bit of rating, but people are taking this way too seriously !

Yes Alireza's success is undeniable and he does seem to be close to challenging magnus given his rating. But Alireza has never beaten carlsen in classical format. Not once. Maybe in the world championship match he can draw the 12 classical games and try to win in the rapid and blitz but the fact that Alireza has yet to get a win against magnus in classical makes it feel like he still has a looong way to go

He refused to appear in Tata Steel Master which was a big mistake on his way to become FIDE world champion.

Too early for world championship; He showed weaknesses in endings. If he studies this point, instead of playing bullets , as in the candidates tournament, he may have a chance.
But they are so many young talents now, specially from India.
