Thanks for the content! I’ve been talking to John Deere and they want 2500-5600 depending on options for the preservative kit. But i haven’t seen anyone else have one yet. Going to try this out and see how it works maybe make a quick attach and keep some green guard on hand in case weather starts to shift one day

Yep that’s why I built this kit. It is just to cheap to make your own versus buying a new one.

Thanks for sharing. My farm can't afford anything new or shiny.

That is a nice low cost option. We never used anything to preserve hay. We had an old chain baler that didn't wrap a tight bale but always managed to get them baled in dry weather. Our humidity here in NC is brutal so it's always a crap shoot getting it done around the weather. We used an old haybine and rake. Now most use a disc mower or discbine, tedder, and rake. 3 days is typical. Never used a moisture meter either, just felt by hand. My father sold Allis and New Holland. Never had any experience with Deere balers but I know that they are really good. New Holland is the king here. Thanks for the videos. I really appreciate it.

Yeah I have seen the chain balers but never ran one. They look slow goin but reliable. I think that’s the best way to know if it’s dry, is by hand. The moisture meter is not real accurate because it can’t measure the stem moisture. But I’m hoping after using it for awhile, I can learn the average readings on dry hay to know when it’s higher than normal moisture. Deere and Vermeer seem to be the king around here but I have my eye on a new holland RB450 utility

    Thank you for sharing.
I have a baler almost identical to yours it's a 446 John Deere
    I bought a workmaster 65 this Spring.
Is your tractor a workmaster 65?
I am curious how your tractor handles the baler?
$500 or 600 is cheap Compared to a cumulator and a grapple.
I have had 2 stack wagons and now I run accumulator system I think they're both about equal.

I had the workmaster 75 and it handle that baler with no problems.

Nice job on your fabrication. I don't like putting a plastic tank straight on metal. I use a rubber mat. Just to isolate the tank from any vibration.

Did that other cigarette lighter port handle that pump? One is lower amps and I popped it first time I plugged up my bale monitor, but the other one handles it fine. We baled some orchard grass today that was alittle green, hope it doesn't mold. Do you tedder yours down there or is it dry enough in texas to just dry in the windrow?

Great question, I had to look it up. The pump needs a 10amp max circuit to run. I just looked in the service manual and it shows they are 25amp 12v sockets in the tractor but one has a 15amp fuse and the other is a 10amp. The power supply I ordered is good for 15amps. So I guess we will see. If I have to open the side panel for a better power source I will.
No I don’t have to run a Tedder, it normally will dry in a day and half sitting in a windrow (cutting coastal). Good luck with your orchard grass. I’m going to open up one of the wettest rolls in about a week and see if there is any mold. Maybe I’ll make a video on the results.

    I recomend HayGard

Hay Guard is non acid. Its sodium based. Its better for animals to eat salt than acid. Ether way you will need to hose down front of baler to prevent corrosion just be mindful of bearings, blow them out with air to get water out or run it for a while to get water out of bearings.
