Where do I start?
I worked on that video for two week now. I should've done that video a long time ago but forgot about it. Then there's someone on twitter that not only is a great person but also does great art, posted something related to Steven Stone mentionning Alain. That post made me remember the anime reference that should've been made.
I thank that person because if not I would've not even made it anytime soon.
I have taken my time of doing my research and this is the best I could do.
Some reference weren't included because it's either the game came out first or that it wasn't a reference at all. Here are some of them:
- Pikachu Surfing
Pikachu Surfing is not inspired from the anime.
The anime was technically inspired by it because the episode where a Pikachu is actually surfing is in Episode 067 called "The Pi-Kahuna"
That episode was officially first broadcasted in Japan in October 22, 1998 thus, one month after Pokemon Yellow was officially released.
- Protagonist name
The protagonist name option which is "Ash" are originaly inspired from the creator and founder of Pokemon: Satoshi Tajiri. It's Japanese name option was "Satoshi". That name option was also in Red and Blue (Green) which came out before the anime even started. Same for the rival name option "Gary" which is inspired from Shigeru Ohmori, most well known for
creating Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.

I will not put them all but you pretty much understand why many of them weren't included. If you have question to ask why a particular one weren't included, please let me know and I shall answer you why! It's also possible that I may forgot some (In different language I believe) so if it's the case, let me know. Every language are technically finished (Because of future purpose) on my part so it shouldn't be that hard to find it (Just as I did with the video).

Ps: No picture from the anime to reference them has been shown because Shopro has reputation of striking video as soon as simply a picture has been put or a short animation too on a video despite having fair use. Didn't wanted to do that for that simple and only reason.

To me, the Ash-Greninja is hands down the best reference, it came during the right time and it was so heart warming

It's a shame that the English translations removes a lot of these references. Someone really needs to keep a better eye on these during translation. Otherwise, players will think they are just battling random trainers or something
Well, if I have a pretty good reference I put in a movie and someone changes it,I would be pretty pissed,too
All the anime references in Yellow stop after Gym 6, because the game was clearly in production during the 4 month Pokémon Shock hiatus, and Ash wouldn’t even reach Blaine for another EIGHTEEN episodes after that, so it was too late to reflect Blaine and Team Rocket’s Gym teams
Just imagine if they would've actually decided to end anime on this episode. The world would've been so different then. I still am salty Porigon got a short end of the stick even though it wasn't even the case of the flashing lights.

Yellow has Dragonair in the Safari Zone, which is also a reference to episode 35. And in Yellow, Krabby and Kingler can be found on Route 25, which is a reference to Mystery at the Lighthouse!.
Sorry but both are wrong. They could also be caught in R/B and those games released prior to the anime.
@@toumabyakuya Actually, no. Only Dratini could be found at the Safari Zone in RB, not Dragonair. And while Krabby was on Route 25 in RB, Kingler was not. Plus, Krabby was made more common there in Yellow too.

30:58 the dialogue talks about her being the future champ and what do you know, Iris is the champion of Unova in the anime.
Although, she did become a champion in B2W2, so I doubt it counts.

Both media influences each other people are always biased towards one and it irrating
6:42 you forgot to add that koga's and sabrina's teams have changed to resemble more of their teams in the anime, grimer and muk are able to be encountered in the kanto power plant now as a reference to episode 30 when ash caught muk, and that krabby is more common and kingler can be caught now on route 25 where bill is as a reference to episode 13 of the anime when ash caught krabby and met bill
@King Lion26 nah I'm right about sabrina because her original team was kadabra, alakazam, venomoth, and mr mime, but they changed it to abra, kadabra, and alakazam because she uses an abra in the anime. Even if it isn't the exact team it's still a reference to the anime. Same goes for koga, even though he uses a golbat and voltorb in the anime, his team in pokemon yellow is still a reference to the anime because they changed it to have him use pokemon he used in the anime, despite it not being the exact team

Gamefreak sure does loved placing Easter Eggs of Anipoke like NPC's name & events.
But, I'm glad non of this effect the self Canon Gameverse plot storylines.
always loved that about yellow(& still even with the other references surprised let's go brought it back especially jessie & james,would love to see them appear in another main gen game.) & like both gen 7 and super smash bros. reference ash's greninja(always like to imagine the pokemon are the anime's versions both for more identity and would be cute seeing ash find out about samus & sonic helping his pikachu.:3),misty's look and even ash.
I wonder what went in the minds of the Game Freak developers when they were tasked in retro-actively fit nods like these into their game, before the anime became such massive instrument in the Pokémon franchise

Interestingly, the anime is based off red and green released in Japan, and the newer games are more likely inspired from the anime since the storyline and everything of a pokemon anime episode is completed 6 months before its broadcast on televisions
Well the anime became extremely popular with kids that help boost the franchise popularity plus is not just just main franchise is also smash, the pokemon trainer starter moveset are based on ash starters and their moves.
So Yellow is basically you being Ash without you knowing it.
That was cool seeing all the references!
The Dusk Form Lycanroc was actually kinda a pain if you had Ultra Moon like me, because Moon and Ultra Moon are set 12 hours ahead of the IRL time, meaning you had to evolve the Rockruff between 5 and 6 AM IRL to get Dusk Form. I actually evolved mine the day Harry and Meghan got married, cause I was up early already to watch the wedding live (it was at like 3am my time). I had trained it to near the right level then took it off my team so it wouldn't accidently evolve before I was ready.

In Pokemon Sun, Moon , Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the Pokemon Lady Center you can fight in The Battle Royale can have Latias as one of her Pokemon which might be a reference to the Latias Nurse Joy used in the DP side story episode.
The sprite heavy games had the best little details for sure ‼️
On Black/White, Meloetta sings the exact same song that plays on the anime on the event to unlock its other form.

To me the potion sprites always felt to me like they were pots of honey dripping out.

Ikue also appears in Sword and Shield. She's the Pikachu trainer that shows up during Max Raid Battles, although she's called Poppy in English for some reason.
In fact, a lot of max raid trainers are named after voice actors. The Eevee trainer (named Freya in English) is called Aoi in Japanese, who is the voice actor of Iris in the anime and Eevee in the game. Rika (Ash's voice actor) is the Snorlax trainer, and the Togepi trainer is named after Misty's voice actor.

fun fact, you can evolve the pikachu if you trade it and have them evolve it and send it back. It's probably the only way for two pkmn yellow players to get a raichu
