  • I spent a sunny afternoon nymphing a nice run and riffles on my local water. The bigger fish were hiding in their summer water and it was a lot of fun searching them out.
I really enjoyed getting my recently repaired 10' 3wt nymphing rod back out and in action! I did go back out the following day and managed some very nice fish up to 19"

Glad you caught some nice browns from your local river Usk on your repaired rod …your mustard Walt’s did the trick just fine ☑️ a good session…very enjoyable

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The mustard Walts has saved me in the low, clear water recently. Hopefully I'll get to explore some new water soon.

You make this look so easy, I’m amazed at how many fish you caught in an hour and a half, crazy!

Hi Patrick. Its Alex, we've met on rhe river a couple of times. Very impressive fishing. Glad its not just me that looses all the big ones! Great to see how you fish though, you definitely hook more fish like that than I do fishing with a nymph and indicator. Hopefully see you on the river soon and you can show me how its done

    Great content! Is this chainbridge?

Thank you! This is Usk Town water just a few miles downstream of chainbridge. I haven't actually fished the chainbridge section before.

Great stuff man. Could you please tell me what your setup is. Fly line leader indicator etc

There is no fly line when euro nymping.

I have a micro leader setup which is tougher to cast, but greatly improves drift and strike detection.
The other commenter is right - there is no traditional floating flyline, but I do use a "euro specific flyline" which is spooled on as normal flyline would be with backing. This is similar in size and feel to traditional flyline and really just gives you a line that feels better in your hand than an all mono rig. It is very optional for euronymphing and the flyline is rarely past my first or second guide on the rod.
The actual setup is really straightforward from there. Attached to the "flyline" with a nail knot is about 25 feet of bicolor mono leader from Pezon and Michel in size .16mm (5x). This acts as my entire leader and a sighter. After that is simply 4-6 feet of tippet usually in 6x or 7x to your flies.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
      Patrick
