    One of the best Plantar Fasciitis videos yet. To the point and love the new walking drills with different foot positions. I use a ball with spikes to roll on my feet. Works better than the plain rubber ball. I'll have to increase my ball workouts to at least 2 minutes. I also do scrapping of the foot and calf muscles with a stainless steel tool to release the scar tissues. I have good days and bad days. Is it unusual to have this problem for over 10 years? Seems like more. I used to just buy new inserts for my shoes, but within the past year I have self diagnosed myself with Plantar Fasciitis from watching over a hundred different videos of doctors and physical therapists.
    Thanks for sharing...

    I've had PF for 3months now. And recently went to the podiatrist and he prescribed me some methylpredisolone 4mg doses. Hopefully this stuff works. Supposed to help with the inflammation. I work 10hour shifts on concrete floors moving all day and stepping up and down off of our equipment. I also received some Power step brand shoe insoles. Which I haven't used at work yet since I've been off for a week and they seem to be really comfortable I'm glad I got to break them in before actually using them at work first. I also do the foot stretches and roll my feet on a frozen water bottle and try to use the night splint as much as possible. Something tells me though that my line of work will keep me from healing completely.... But I'm just glad I don't have the severe pain like a lot of other people suffering from PF. It hasn't gotten to the point where I can't work anymore but it's just annoying not being comfortable in my own shoes so to speak. And being afraid of pushing myself to much when I play sports for fear of damaging it even more. I guess I can update everyone if it gets better.

    your video nails it....I've been suffering with this for over 10 yrs, basically gave up walking, which sucks, and I also am nervous a lot which creates muscle tension which I believe causes most of this for me. I believe STRETCHING the calves are so important and actually the whole leg, which has helped when i'm consistent, but I haven't tried the walking barefoot yet, but am willing to try anything. thanks for the video.

    • @BobC59
      @BobC59 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am in a similar situation as "Bridging" (ten years/chronic) but can't escape walking - although I do avoid any more than is necessary (shopping, etc... and I take my dog about a half to 3/4 mile every day which requires some recovery time). If I was not self-employed (semi-retired), I could not work the job I had for many years till I left to do my own thing - or ANYTHING that required being on my feet more than a small amount!!
      I have been stretching and sometimes wear night splints. Have tried all other remedies including shots and ultrasonic to no avail. (latter worked great but I relapsed after a couple of weeks). STRENGTHENING seems to make the most sense here, as I think all the "resting" allows supporting muscles to weaken and thus make the PF worse.
      Dr. Scott, PF has been ruining my life and making me avoid doing things with my only son who I adore. My heart breaks when I can't do things with him I should be able to do and I pray the strengthening combined with rolling and stretching will make a difference. Do you suggest any other strengthening techniques, as I fear my length of time pampering the condition may have weakened things far too much?
      Hoping for a response...
      Many thanks!
      Bob

    Thank you soo much for your generosity Dr.Scott ! I have been suffering since 2 years from burning pains & your video will give me a chance to start the healing process at home ! My doctor doesn't believe any of the pains i have because i do not look ill! :( The cause of this must be the problems i have with my lower back & damaged vertebrae? Thanks to a sweet friend on FbK who also suffered from Plantar Fasciitis i found your video!

    • @traceydavidb
      @traceydavidb 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Denise Brutus , a chiropractor got rid of my PF by adjusting my back, so your assumption about cause must be correct.

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tracey Brantley I definitely agree. These techniques assume you have plantar fasciitis - inflammation and scar tissue in the PF. If a lumbar adjustment improves symptoms in the foot, the diagnosis is not really PF. It would be more like peripheral neuropathy secondary to lumbar subluxation.

    Mine just started about a month ago on my right heel, could barely walk in the am and still like that. It came out of nowhere and I walk around the house barefoot all the time. I roll a frozen water bottle under my foot first thing and that helps but as the day goes on and by nighttime I can't put any pressure on my heel. I cannot walk on my heel like your video as it feels like there is just bone touching the floor and the pain is horrible. Does this go away ever or just temporarily after excercises? I have always been a walker so this is not fun.

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear about your severe pain. Obviously, if you can't put any pressure on the foot right now, many of these exercises will not be appropriate for you. The first step for severe cases is to reduce the inflammation in the area. Hopefully you are under professional care to address this.

      @larrythomas393 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ya some the inflammation moved to my ankle know its really tough

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it came on suddenly, it's possible the fascia is not simply inflamed, it's possible it is torn :( Did the ER doc address this as an option? If I were you I'd follow up with a trusted provider (orthopedic or someone who can take a closer look and maybe do some imaging.) That amount of swelling is not consistent with fasciitis. It's more consistent with significant damage. That's my 2 cents anyway. Best of luck and again, sorry to hear about the pain.

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Murphy yes it could be something else or PF plus something else. True PF doesn't usually present with more pain in the calf than the foot. The calf pain could be a number of things, none of which I would speculate on over the internet. You should follow up with a physician.

      I agree but the depression from sitting around on the weekend, trying techniques at home and wearing a boot/splint at night which stole my sleep but never really helped is a bad way to go. People don’t give up-- the PT can help! I did no exercise for 2 years because of medial epicondylitis(inner elbow pain) and plantar fasciitis! I thought no action is better than making it worse...the scar tissue will continue to cause pains that you will misconstrue as an fresh injury.

    Question : Lot of doctors said you don't have to strech calf because you give the tension in the wrong way.. What s you explanation do to that streching?

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty straight forward - there is a fascial connection between the calf-->achilles and plantar fascia. I understand the concern in acute cases to not 'overstretch' and thus irritate the PF, but that's why I have the ball rolling first - to warm up the tissue prior to any elongation and reduce risk of irritation. That, and 17+ years of experience / success.

Yes I have the horrible pain when I walk in the AM but it doesn’t go away AT ALL! My feet don’t stop hurting, it is constant pain. Any suggestions? Oh and there has been no trauma that I can think of except maybe sliding out of my husbands truck because he refuses to buy running boards (I live in Texas, trucks are a must)

      Constant pain in both feet could certainly be a sign of something else. My suggestion is get a second opinion from a doctor who will take the time to figure it out.

    Thanks for the information and tips…I have a pretty basic question. The pain has been pretty unbearable, particularly if I have to get up during the night. I do try to stretch it out in the morning (and will do so more based on your rolling suggestion) but I've always heard that if you have severe pain that it's best to back off and that pain is a sign that something is wrong.
    I did go see a regular doctor and was diagnosed but sometimes my level of pain doesn't seem consistent with the stories I'm hearing and, there were a few days where I could barely walk and the pain was up around the ankle and there was also swelling.
    There was no trauma so I'm fine with the diagnosis but my question is this:
    Even if you have severe pain is it recommended to continue walking as much as possible? My body seems like it's telling me to stay off it but it seems like everything I read suggests that I keep using it and walking as much as possible, which just seems kind of counterintuitive.
    Regardless, thanks for the tips, will start tomorrow morning. The pain at times is ridiculous and I do have anti-inflammatories but those things are tearing up my stomach.

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Don Pendleton swelling up into the ankle is not a typical sign of plantar fasciitis. If there is that much inflammation rest is certainly part of an option, but I would want to know why there is that much inflammation. Maybe a second opinion is in order. Additionally, if you'd like to stay active while recovering - pool/aqua therapy is a good option as you'll be non-weight bearing. Best of luck and thanks for the question.

    Hi, Dr. Scott,

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      two things: 1. do the best you can, it will still help activate some muscle contractions. 2. improved mobility can help speed up recovery. I have a more robust program with a full HD video and downloadable guide for ankle rehab (including felxibility and stabilitity exercises) at www.fullbodyfix.com

    Does this advice stay the same with a heel spur added to the PF ?

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More or less. The stretching and strengthening stays the same. Although you'd want to take care not to irritate or put more insult on the spur. There are some additional things that can be done also. For example, your provider might try modalities like ultrasound or even iontophoresis that can be helpful to decrease pain and inflammation locally. I've had some folks get temporary relief with a small donut cushion placed in the shoe. But long term getting the foot musculature more robust can help. If the spur has gotten too big a surgical consultation may be the last resort. Best of luck.

    I had plantar fasciitis in one foot and my arch was collapsing. The strassburg sock worked well for me as did foot strengthening exercises. Calf stretching worsened the condition so I abandoned that. I can now walk a reasonable distance without any pain. The increased walking is also strengthening my foot and my arch is returning to it's original shape.

      Try slow calf raises instead. Work your way up to increased span of movement; this will lengthen the muscle.

    Thank you Dr Scott for this video. I have been dealing with this issue for over 2 years now, the exercises for walking on toes and heal I have not been told about. I believe my issues started because of lower back problems where I have a few different issues going on but one of the biggest issues is that I can't walk very far without it effecting my calve muscles tying them in knots and the only way to ease that pain is to sit down and get off my feet. I have complained to my Dr for years about that issue but they refuse to believe me and even seeing a podiatrist, though he has helped it is not completely remedied. Personally I don't think it will be until I get the back issue figured out. Am I just fishing or does this sound reasonable to assume. It has been years since I have seen a chiropractor but my mom use to take me to one once a week as a early teenager because of issues.

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PJ King It would be nearly impossible for me to give you a good diagnosis without a full physical, neurological, biomechanical and functional exam. However, I'll try to give you some things to follow up on with your local provider options. The issue with your lower extremity cramping is generally called claudication...there are two types: neurogenic and vascular. Certainly, if there is lumbar spine dysfunction that could explain bilateral lower extremity pain/cramping from a neurological cause. This happens when nerve roots in the lower back are compromised and trigger problems distally (down the legs). But, you could also be experiencing a vascular issue. Hopefully, you have a provider who is willing to do the proper tests to determine the true root cause of your complaint. Otherwise, they're just throwing treatment darts and hoping something sticks. Best of luck - Dr. Scott

    • @pjking4628
      @pjking4628 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plexus Performance Care Thank you for your response, I guess I neglected to say that when the leg cramping started happening back in 1998 they had decided it was not vascular. I did go to a chiropractor in 02 who said I had an issue with T12, L3 and L5 as well as a slight curve from T4 down to L3 to the left and my neck curving toward the back instead of forward like it is suppose to. I am getting ready to switch primary Dr because I am getting no results from her but thought i might be able to arm my self with some info for the new primary. I can't afford a Chiropractor at this time so thought I might get your opinion (without mentioning your name since this is online and not a physical examination). I would go back to the Chiropractor I saw before but have moved and it would be impossible at this time to see him again. Anyway, thank you Dr. Scott for the quick reply and for the videos you have put on here, they are very informative. Sincerely Paula

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PJ King If the vascular option has been ruled out, it's reasonable to assume a neurological cause. Again, finding the source of the problem (for example, a centrally located problem such as spinal stenosis or bilateral nerve root compression - versus a peripheral nerve entrapment in the lower extremity) is vital to create a proper course of care. You might try the sciatic nerve floss as a way to see if you have neural tension to the legs... th-cam.com/video/aFKwNffX8zw/w-d-xo.html

    • @fullbodyfix

      I can’t see how shockwaves actually break up scar tissue. But I’ve never tried it nor used it so IDK. I think it depends of the podiatrist. Most do not get very deep into rehab exercises nor manual therapy which in my experience has helped the most. So my recs in the video stand.

    I am limping for the pain. I am starting to do your excercices. How long in your view will it take for a full recovery ? Instead of a ball, I am using bottled ice to roll over my foot. Is it ok ?

    • @fullbodyfix
      @fullbodyfix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the ice bottle is a ok substitute. just try to use the edge to really get some depth. I can't really give a time table since I don't know the extent of the problem (which I wouldn't without knowing your whole history and doing a physical exam). In general, most people start noticing some improvement within the first week or two. If you don't, go see a trusted provider for more help.
