The fact you dont look at the bigger picture, and see this as a vacation. When in reality you are whitewashing a dictatorship and everything that entails. I regard this the same as influensers going to Saudi and getting pooped on for money.

I know this is not popular opinion but China pays TH-cam (and other social media) bloggers to paint their country in positive light to a Western Audience. There is a New York Times article on this subject "How Beijing Influences the Influencers". I know Adam is a good person at heart but sometimes you need to read between the lines why a Chinese based company would pay a Western youtuber to create positive content on China.

The US govt spends annually hundreds of millions taxpayer money to manufacture fakenews and consent for aggression towards countries which refuse to kowtow to them i.e. Russia, China, Iraq, Syria, Iran, N Korea etc.. literally atrocity propaganda, on a daily drip drip basis to non-thinking western sheep like you - but all of a sudden China gives a 2 week holiday to a 50k subscriber TH-camr and ohhhh its all so dystopian and evil. Not saying Keis isn't doing great, he really is, but you'd be surprised how insignificant it is that the CCP reached out to him for a propaganda piece. I went to China on a CCP sponsored trip and it only cost a few thousand USD for 2 weeks of 5 star hotels, most meals, travel around western China, a bunch of attractions, guides, and even airfare from/to the USA. I'm glad I went as it was an enlightening and overall enjoyable experience, but I don't really have any desire to visit China again. BTW, you're 1000% correct about needing to watch what you say and do, it's scary there.

He will only be shown what the party wants him to see and he will no doubt be required to show his videos to the CCP before he posts them and they will be very hard on him if it's not favourable to them. Adam is such a positive guy that he will probably not upset them and may actually not have any problems but these sort of 'white monkey' tours for vloggers have been part of China's propaganda program for many years. You have to find a local historian to find the historical sites. There is always a lot of cool history in cities in China. I was in Fuzhou and there were some people who worked for Motorola otherwise I was the only white guy they had ever seen. They would comment on how tall I am and especially how big my shoes were and they had no idea I could understand them. When I left, after living in Fuzhou for a few months, I had to show all my pictures and film (it was in the 1990s) to someone who opened all the film and looked at all the digital media I had and kept the exposed film. They searched my bags and when I returned to the U.S. customs seized my cameras and said I had to pay duty on them even though I brought them with me.

I was in China as a tourist back in December 2018. Visited the main Tier 1 cities and a couple of Tier 2 cities on the side. Never felt threatened at any time whatsoever during my travels in this wonderful country. China is an exciting country to visit; the history, the culture, the food, technology and of course the people are amazing. Yes, as a white guy a lot of people will be interested in you. Me: white hair, skin, blue eyes and average height. It's a great opportunity to understand the people, albeit, the speaking of English is limited, language translator apps is a must. Being an Australian is a big plus, sure, some are aware of the recent misunderstandings between Australia and China (friends who have been there recently), but the majority are super keen to learn more about Australia. Keis, you will be a wonderful ambassador for Australia and of course promoting Chongqing.

Then come out learning a lesson on propaganda and how much ignorance plays a part in creating hatred for people, places and things that might not deserve it at all.

They didn't use the police, they had all the uni professors interrogate him about why he was getting involved in illegal search topics asking if he wanted expelled from the university.
