I believe the aeroplane at the beginning was Jo’s first. A chap called Bill Hitchmough was sent by Jo to purchase it. This chap happened to be my grandfather. He was also responsible for taking the JCB brand to Japan and Australia. Not only that, he arranged for the lakes at Rocester to be dug.
I have been watching JCB excavators for years and i never saw one of these early models with a cap on the exhaust yet all these seem to have them fitted, love the demolition!, none of this picking at the building, just smash it!
I learnt to drive on one of these when I was about 12, over 60 years ago. And some rather brutal operators shown here, not smooth at all and if employed by me would not last long.
How times change, the Guy standing in an unsupported trench, do that now and the supervisor / manager would end up in court, and dismissed too, and rightly so.
So beautifully crafted even if the ergonomics are a bit barbaric. Can you imagine a modern promo showing operating the machine while standing outside it?
Is it possible to receive original 16mm copy of JCB films ? I love to show it in Holland when i project films in a museum for heavy equipement let ne know

Great video ,one of the machines shown had 4 lever controls so I'm guessing the two lever was an improvement later on ?

The car driving 10' away past the hose demo was my favorite, at least driver had a shirt and tie under those crisp white overalls.
