Karlsson managed to pull off one set from Ma Long in this brutal form and that too didn't come easy. Just shows how good you need to be to have any chance at all against Ma Long.

MA Long hasn’t been this bad since 2009 and people still can’t beat him.
I’d hate to see Karlsson facing a circa 2015 MA Long pre-injuries.

Plus karlsson couldn't or didn't push him to test his top level. So it's brutal in that context.

MA Long hasn’t been playing on his usual level since the Olympic win.
You may think he looks good and is in good form, but people like me who have seen him play since 2009, know he is not the shadow of what he was pre 2020.
@@Chris.Morales Of course. No player can be in the form that he was on Day 1. It doesn't suggest he has become obsolete. He is returning back to his glorious days and the signs are there to see. He played even better against Jonghoon in R16.
It requires tremendous amount of dedication and training to stay on course day after day and year after year even if you have all the resources at your fingertips.
So also learn to see how a player makes an attempt to comeback to reach to earlier self. Of course he is not there yet(and maybe he will never touch that space), but you are so blind that you cannot even see how he has improved from his fall.
@@MrUtoobee yes, but MA Long is not the point. You thinking Karlsson winning a set is relevant, while kids like Moregard and Tomokazo are actually winning against Chinese players.
Karlsson should be winning against grandpa MA Long, not losing and people celebrating he won a set.

Kristian Karlsson is not an easy opponent by any means. I am really surprised by the way Ma Long handled Karlsson. What can we say about this old Dragon? The Dragon seems to peak at the World Championships every 2 years. This match serves as notice for both Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin.
The way I see this World Championships, there is a higher probability for non-Chinese players to upset Wang Chuqin or Fan Zhendong than this old Dragon. At this moment in time, I just can't see any player who has the ability to defeat Ma Long other than Fan Zhendong or Wang Chuqin. However, the way Ma Long dismantled Kristian Karlsson, I won't bet against the Dragon to win his 4th World Singles Championship. Unless his coaches barred him from winning against his teammates.
You see that with most legendary players, they seem to be slightly slacking off, but everytime there's a big event they play so much better. It's true for every sport, they do it on purpose, when you've been training for 20+ years your mind and body need more rest. The pressure of being the best all year around is just the best way to burnout.

There's nothing to be sorry for, it's a competitive match. He did well in the fourth game changing tactics near the end of the set.
Ma Long seeming in better shape again. Semi Final against Wang Chuqin is gonna be interesting, if both players get there of course. But I have the fear Ma Long will Exit in quarters - guess he needs Lin Gaoyuans help to not play Lin-yun ju in quarters

@@ttfan2592 I have no doubt in ML at all. He won this 3 in a row already, and none of them was easy for him. It won’t be easy, but ML is still at his prime. He does not give all he has for those lower level tournaments as not to risk to get injuries. When it comes world championship or Olympic he’d be all in. He beat FZD 11-9 in set 7 in 2017, it was that close back then, but in 2021 Olympic did you recall how he did it again? WCQ or LGY, they have to prove they can become finalist first, this is not like a Singapore smash.

That was the most devastating and brutal game I have seen in a while.
How strong is Ma Long? That is just unreal.
I could really see how Ma Long standing at the top of a mountain playing downwards and Karlsson had to play from the bottom of a mountain playing upwards against him (not trying to belittle Karlsson at all, I like him very much).
Karlsson could barely take 1 game with net balls and sheer willpower.

Karlsson went for incredibly risky shots. He played at enormous speeds and still made so many of the shots. He would have thrashed many high ranked opponents with those canons. But Ma Long just played them back as if it was nothing...

please show the exactly proof or you just start a rumour. Don’t cry like a kid when you lose.
For each WTT or ITTF tournament, the blades and rubbers of participants are required being sent to the tournaments in advance for legality testing. If it is illegal or scam, the athletes won't be able to play matches. So, I just regard what you said is a joke.
