There is no one on this planet, aside from friends and family, who I love and cherish more than Stephen King. He was the inspiration for my writing career. When our great King of fiction is gone, it's going to be like losing a father. Thank you and bless you for uploading this!
Stephen King is always worth listening. Even as a public speaker, he is a genuinely wonderful storyteller. He comes on at 06:45. He answers from the audience after 46:40
You know, Stephen being a former high school English teacher, whenever I hear your question, it always sounds like you reversed the classic "Teacher-to-Student" question: "What is your favorite book and why?" You flipped the roles on the Teacher! LOL! :D
To be that famous and talanted...with tons of confidence etc. and still be so damn humble all the time! I wish more people could be like that. Love that rare combination in human beings. If I ever become famous in some way (yeah right..haha) I would try to be like that. What an inspiration he is!
If you know his personal story, then you know exactly why he's like that. He had to WORK his fingers to the bone at a typewriter to make his mark. When you've truly earned what you have through hard work, it keeps you humble.
I love Stephen King. I started reading his work in 1984. I started off with Skeleton Crew,a collection of short stories, The Stand, and Pet Semetary.I have bought every book but, being the slow reader that I am, I have not read them all yet.1st thing on my bucket List. Because to me, you haven't lived until you read Shephen King..The Dark Tower series is my favorite. Thank you so very much for this upload. To this true fan and "constant reader" It was a most enjoyable view of my favorite author.
I´m not even a writer, but I started to read King´s work when I was 13 (in 1984). When he´ll be gone, I´m going to miss him for the rest of my life. I read a lot, but the writer I´ve read the most is King.
@BlueVoyageTV Yes, I agree with you: my hat is also off to the organisers of that event. It is a real treat for someone like me, living in London, to be able to watch this entire talk. Well done to the organisers. And thank you to those who filmed & uploaded it to You Tube.
this man is a national treasure and a god among men! what I wouldn't give to have even a fraction of the imagination and creativity he has even on his worst days!
I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Shit happens. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Be like Stephen King!
27:51 -- I remember when you could smoke in a hospital bed. You could always find the nurses' station. You just looked for "the cloud". Speaking of clouds, I remember when you could smoke on a passenger jet. Polite people, of course, would turn on the exhaust fan to draw the smoke out...but still. And, it seems like only yesterday, there wasn't a restaurant, in the whole world, that didn't have, at least, a "smoking section". You could send your kid, down to the store, to buy your cigarettes FOR you. No one batted an eyelash. What's REALLY interesting (particularly if you happen upon the topic of "gateway drugs") is that "candy cigarettes" & "bubblegum cigars" are STILL being sold in many of the convenience stores that I frequent today. Considering all that we know about the dangers of smoking, it seems bizarre, at best, that we are continuing to target our kids with this shit. What's next? Candy syringes? Candy Kalashnikovs? Candy K-Y Jelly?? I guess some things change, and some things don't. In any case, God Bless Stephen King...He is solely responsible for getting me to read for pleasure. I had always been a fan of monsters, and used to buy those models (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.) that you would glue together, and then, paint. But I had had never been a big reader. On a whim (I think it was the cover that attracted me), I picked up a copy of 'Salam's Lot". 'Didn't even know who Stephen King was...'Had never heard of him. But the description, on the cover, was enough to hook me. 'Spent the next several weeks sleeping with the lamp on...Not a nightlight, but a FULL-ON lamp. I felt quite certain, at the time, that it would save my life. Stephen, I hope that you & your family are well, and that things are good wherever you are.
As much as I like the movie, the book does bring lot more to the reader - the character depth, the horror. I wasn't scered of the visuals in the movie, but the book did scare me at some times. What was strange in the book was the Danny character was sometimes having thoughts of five years old and sometimes thoughts and vocabulary of an adult. Also the ending is more believable in the movie, its hard to believe that five years old driven to hallway with no way of escaping can reason with murderous supernatural entity and prevent it from killing him... But thats only me. I enjoyed both and like the book much better. Sometimes I borrow visuals from the movie though, especially the hotel interior and exterior.
When I saw Kubrick’s The Shining as a young person I liked it - watching it recently I literally LOL at it - it’s so ridiculous it’s funny. I agree with King that it misses the story - it misses the point of his book by miles!
I think the Shining movie/ book debate is a false dichotomy. The film isn't an adaptation, it's a stand alone film (and a masterpiece in it's own right) with completely separate thematic concerns from King's book. So please, just appreciate them for what they are.
I think that’s fair and I try to think about it the same way. On the other hand you can’t really blame people for feeling that way/having that debate considering they are titled the same and the film is absolutely an adaptation of the book- I mean they share the same general plot, it’s literally said in the beginning that it’s based off of the Stephen king book. There’s always going to be a debate over this kind of stuff when it comes to book to movie transitions. But I do agree with you that the film is absolutely stellar and that it should be judged on its own merits. This is the advantage of being a non reader, never having to see a beautiful, well thought out book condensed and morphed.
I’m reading 1984 now and can attest to it being a “wicked bummer” lol. I still think it’s super interesting and even more relevant, but it’s depressing as hell to the point where I just want to get through it
riofan5 not in this one but he does in some other speeches on TH-cam. Interesting fact about it, he threw away the manuscript and his wife fished t out of the trash. If it weren’t for her it would have never been published
So funny - I hated Lord of the Flies at School, but I read Moby Dick, The Spy that came in from the Cold by Steinbeck and Orwell's 1984. My English teacher laughed at me. I stared her out.
Stephen King knows how the story starts but not how it will end. John Irvings isnt boring for for the wsy he writes. He knows how the book ends but doesnt quite know how he'll get there.
What a beautiful talk. He sure knows how to make my tongue tie up and I talk a lot. I want to remind him that I am waiting for a moment to see him alone. I do not have a car. He can help me look for one. 🍺 congratulations on your marriage 1971 - I would like to see you.
The unfinished story King mentions would be more interesting if the guy would see only dead people on the stands behind the batter at the baseball game. Now that would be scary.
There is no one on this planet, aside from friends and family, who I love and cherish more than Stephen King. He was the inspiration for my writing career. When our great King of fiction is gone, it's going to be like losing a father. Thank you and bless you for uploading this!
He’s not gone yet.
11/22/63 was and is a fabulous book. Thanks for all the great reads.
Love that book!!
Stephen King is always worth listening. Even as a public speaker, he is a genuinely wonderful storyteller. He comes on at 06:45. He answers from the audience after 46:40
I was the kid at 50:55. Man, I was SOOO happy.
You know, Stephen being a former high school English teacher, whenever I hear your question, it always sounds like you reversed the classic "Teacher-to-Student" question: "What is your favorite book and why?" You flipped the roles on the Teacher! LOL! :D
Awesome. May I ask, what is your top book (or two) of his?
He should've rephrased that: "Clap if you saw the movie but didn't read the book."
*Applause*
*Whips out rifle*
Misery is my favorite Stephen King book and movie.
Draven i liked Delores Claiborne
As novels, I would put 'It' and 'The Stand''. ''Misery' is amazing, though.
The single greatest American author. Bar none! Without a doubt.
Except for Cormac McCarthy. But I love Mr. King and have read, I think, almost everything he has ever written.
For those who don't care about the annoying folks at the beginning, skip to 6:45
Thank you!
lovey dovey and "all sparkly" that lined cracked me up ALL HAIL THE KING
"I'm just somebody who's spun bullshit into gold."
Been a long time since I read a novel. Gotta catch up on about 10+ Stephen King novels and get off the pc for awhile. I miss reading!
Stephen King is numero uno!
I can listen to king all day, he is such an interesting character
Many thanks from admirers from far Russia. Good health and long years of life to you Mr. King.

Stephen King's Imagination and literary talent is Virtually Unparalleled.

Yeah i understand completely. This one person has taught me that fear can spark incredible creative energy if you put your mind to it.
this man is a national treasure and a god among men! what I wouldn't give to have even a fraction of the imagination and creativity he has even on his worst days!
Thanks for uploading! King is a funny man.
All hail the Crimson King...
I think the camera operator was drunk
Was James Patterson at this event? Was he tossed out for not being a writer?
Thank you so much to 'BlueVoyageTV' for uploading this Stephen King talk.

This is just Stephen King doing a stand-up set, and I love it!
39:10 Tell us a story, Mr. King! 🤩

At the 1:05 mark he discusses the story idea that he and Stewart O'Nan wrote, called "Faces in the Crowd" to be published in August.

@ZachClooney Thank you for the time cues. This was a first class event by the Savannah Book festival. My hats are off to the organizers.
Mort Rainey, “ The Secret Window” , prequel please 🤍
That crapper autograph would be a true collectible.
OMG Stewart O'nan is in the crowd!

I love 'The Shining', the movie, and I love Jack Nicholson and his portrayal in it, but Stephen King has a point...
i love him
I don't even want to think about the day he'll be gone :(
Read the play,"Angelica and Francesca." It is spectacular.
King comes on at 6:47
You welcome.
34:25 Name just one (1) other writer this cool... :-)
42:00 + Get it together, camera-person! 😒
@WooferMcWooferson You are welcome
When I saw Kubrick’s The Shining as a young person I liked it - watching it recently I literally LOL at it - it’s so ridiculous it’s funny. I agree with King that it misses the story - it misses the point of his book by miles!
Check out the ABC Miniseries if you havnt already. Its more true to the book🙂👍

does he talk about 'Carrie'?
riofan5 not in this one but he does in some other speeches on TH-cam. Interesting fact about it, he threw away the manuscript and his wife fished t out of the trash. If it weren’t for her it would have never been published
i love his Creep Shows
So funny - I hated Lord of the Flies at School, but I read Moby Dick, The Spy that came in from the Cold by Steinbeck and Orwell's 1984. My English teacher laughed at me. I stared her out.
Stephen King is painfully funny here.

26:00 Get it together, camera-person.
Stephanie 😍🫠
Was the cameraman drunk?
Yes
43:00 wtf is the camera man doing😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"Secure Stephen King."
This kind of language tells you all about their approach.
0:26:00 the camera man fell asleep
you have spun bullshit into gold. that is so true. you are also the salesman, and you are one of the best.
Maybe you're gone before him man, who knows.
Why does the audio on these things always have to be so shitty.
👍
What a beautiful talk. He sure knows how to make my tongue tie up and I talk a lot. I want to remind him that I am waiting for a moment to see him alone. I do not have a car. He can help me look for one. 🍺 congratulations on your marriage 1971 - I would like to see you.
Could very well be.
'Guest of Honor' does not operate as a verb.
HTH
My cell phone shall not be silenced!!!!
Oswald has def been disproven. People just don’t accept factual events.
Can someone explain the 'what happens when a codependent dies?' joke? :$
The unfinished story King mentions would be more interesting if the guy would see only dead people on the stands behind the batter at the baseball game. Now that would be scary.
'guest of horror' 👻👀
Wimpy applause. 1-3 minutes at least would seem appropriate.
Well we did get Biden as president... under better circumstances though
Writers are subversive.
That woman has no business being on stage.
Stephen King , you're a dung beetle
